My Ex-husband Begs Me Back
Chapter 1009: Backing

Chapter 1009: Backing

Brody's words hung heavily in the room, casting a tense and seriousatmosphere. Everyone exchanged glances, all instinctively turning theireyes to Horace. It was clear to everyone who Brody was referring to.However, apart from Brody and Horace, the others present were merelyhigh-ranking employees with no substantial shares. They didn't dare tospeak out, as they were essentially employees.

Under Horace's leadership, Armstrong Corp had shown steadyimprovements. The company was clearly on the right track, and thiswas evident to the internal employees, especially the executives. Unlikein the past under Brody's management, many things had beensuperficial, done only for appearances, while the reality was far fromideal, as evidenced by the recent Elijah incident.

Thus, the room fell into contemplative silence, with no one offering aresponse to Brody's words.

Seeing the lack of response, Brody continued, "Mr. Burris, even ifCamille's signature is on the document, how can we be sure it's reallyher signature? How can we prove it's her signature without heradmitting it? I won't accept it unless Camille herself confirms it."

Brody was adamant, leaving Horace with no choice but to dial Camille'snumber. Despite having other means to resolve the situation withoutbothering Camille, he wanted Brody to be convinced without anydoubts.

When the call connected, it was Brody who spoke first, almostsnatching the phone from Horace's hand. He questioned Camillesharply, “Camille, are you sure you want to transfer your shares toHorace? Tell me, this isn't the truth, and it's not voluntary, is it?"Camille was currently at the Simpson's mansion, accompanying the oldSimpson. Upon hearing Brody's voice, she immediately understood thesituation. She glanced at the old Simpson and nodded subtly beforeleaving the old Simpson's bedroom. She calmly responded, "Yes, it'svoluntary.”

Camille's reply further infuriated Brody. He didn't care if the timing wasappropriate or not. His face turned red with anger as he pressed, "Doyou know what you're doing? I asked you to transfer the shares to meearlier, and you said you wanted to obey Grandpa's wishes. Now, whatare you doing? Do you realize that your actions are harming theArmstrong family?"

Brody was seething with anger, but Camille remained composed. Hertone was still calm as she replied, "Obeying Grandpa's wishes wascorrect, but now I believe that Armstrong Corp is better managed byonly one person. Besides, my partnership with Mr. Burris is just that-apartnership. I can have my shares back whenever I want. I have nointerest in running the company. The current arrangement suits me fine.It requires no effort on my part, and I still get dividends. Why not takeadvantage of that?"

Brody slammed his hand on the table in frustration and said, "Camille, are you deliberately opposing me?"

Camille remained composed and replied, “I'm not opposing anyone. I'msimply following my inner decision to transfer my shares to Mr. Burris. This doesn't affect your interests, does it?"

Brody wanted to say more, but he held back. After all, Horace and otherhigh-ranking officials were present, and he didn't want to tarnish hisimage in front of everyone. His frustration was evident, but he didn'tvoice his full thoughts regarding Horace.

Brody lowered his voice, his words dripping with intensity, "What you'redoing is destroying the Armstrong family, Camille. Let me make it clearto you, as long as you carry the name Armstrong, you're still a part ofthe Armstrong family. Even if the Simpson family supports you, youmust adhere to the Armstrong family's rules. I insist you come backimmediately.” His brows furrowed, as if he had just realized somethingimportant, and he added, "We need to have a serious conversationabout this."

Camille, without hesitation, declined, "There's no need to return to theArmstrong family. I don't think there's anything left for us to discuss, especially at a time when I don't want to be a sacrificial lamb for theArmstrong family. If there's nothing else, let's leave it at this."

With that, Camille hung up the phone, giving Brody no opportunity tospeak further. Brody was left fuming, and he felt like throwing his phoneout the window.

Brody clutched his phone tightly, his face displaying deep frustration. After nearly half a minute, he tossed the phone onto the table in front ofhim. His sharp eyes remained fixed, unblinking. Horace, sitting nearby, calmly inquired, "Mr. Armstrong, now that the call has been made, andwe've heard her opinion, can we continue?"

"This matter isn't over. I won't sign, and I won't hand over the companyseal. I'll talk to Camille first, and then we'll see!”

Brody spoke as he rose from his seat, intent on leaving. Horace's voicerang out, "Mr. Armstrong, does this mean you intend to violate therules?”

"What are the rules?" Brody replied. "This is Armstrong Corp, and therules here are determined by the Armstrong family. It's not a matter ofwhoever holds the most shares having complete control.”

Horace simply smiled and posed a question to the others present, "Doyou all agree with Mr. Armstrong?"

The people in the room exchanged glances before one of them spokeup, "The person with the majority of the company's shares should havethe final say in the company's decisions, right?"

Everyone stood by Horace's side, leaving Brody glaring at them coldly. He had thoughts about telling them to shut up and felt they shouldn't behere in the first place. In his view, these people were just ArmstrongCorp's executives, essentially employees, so why did they think theyhad a say in the boss's business?

However, Brody held his tongue, choosing not to express hisfrustration. He was unable to continue the meeting with the currentatmosphere. He felt that he had lost face as the chairman in front of allthe employees. His reputation was tarnished by a much younger man.Brody left the office, just as he had said. He didn't hand over thecompany seal, nor did he sign any documents. The legal departmentand the company's executives decided to draft a new company seal forthe time being, temporarily invalidating the current one. Horace agreedwith this proposal, and they proceeded accordingly.

The meeting continued for about an hour before concluding, but thematter was far from over.

Brody remained opposed to Horace's cooperation with Camille. He waslike a caged animal, restless and anxious. If Horace truly gained controlof the majority of Armstrong Corp's shares, Brody felt that he would becompletely restrained, and he couldn't bear that thought.

Brody made a decision, but before acting on it, Mr. Wesley contactedhim again to inquire about the progress. Brody reassured him with anonchalant response, “It's happening soon. She's already wavering.Don't worry; the Armstrong family won't go back on our word."

Brody placated Mr. Wesley, and then he returned to the Armstrongfamily's mansion.

In his heart, Brody resolved that if Camille acted unfairly, he wouldn'thesitate to take action.

At this moment, Camille remained unaware of these developments. After chatting with the old Simpson, Camille went to the garden to replaceTalia. Talia was currently with Timmy, taking a stroll in the garden.Timmy was overjoyed and clung to Talia, not giving her a moment'srest. He wanted his grandmother to be with him all the time.

Talia was both happy and exhausted from entertaining Timmy.

Camille approached them and interrupted, handing Talia a glass ofwater. "Mom, have some water and take a break. You don't have tokeep playing with him. It's too tiring."

Talia smiled and accepted the glass of water from Camille. "He's mygrandson; of course, I want to spend time with him. It might be a bittiring, but it's worth it. Have you seen your grandpa sleeping?"

Camille replied, "Yes, he just lay down for a nap. I guess he replaces itexhausting to chat with me. He probably won't want to see metomorrow, thinking the countryside is more comfortable without mypresence.”

Talia asked, "How could that be? He really misses you." Talia finishedher water and looked at Camille with a sincere expression. She said,"Cami, we're truly grateful to you. Even though we're family, we stillwant to say thank you. If it weren't for you, your Grandpa would beeven more stubborn.”

Because of Camille, the old Simpson was willing to take better care ofhimself, hoping to live longer and support Camille for as long aspossible.

Camille responded, "Grandpa values me."
