Chapter 1048: Provocation

Chapter 1048: Provocation

Preston let out a disdainful snort and looked at Kian, questioning, "Do Ineed to say thank you?"

Kian remained composed, his expression mild. He calmly replied, "Ifyou really want to say thank you, I can pass on your gratitude to Mr.Simpson and Mrs. Simpson.”

Kian's response was sincere, but it sounded like a provocation toPreston.

Preston forcefully slammed his hand on the table. The alreadyunsteady table shook, and his voice was loud. Although the shop hadfew customers, several employees instinctively turned their attention tothe commotion.

Kian felt a bit helpless; he didn't want to be the center of attention. Helowered his voice and asked, "Mr. Walker, what do you mean by this?"Preston snorted coldly, his expression even more frigid. He looked atKian with a questioning tone in his voice. "Shouldn't I be asking Ayanwhat he means? Is it really Ayan's business to meddle in mine andCamille's affairs? We're already divorced, and yet he still thinks he cancontrol Camille?"

Preston's face remained icy, and the glare he fixed on Kian was filledwith displeasure. His presence was undeniable. Preston was quitedifferent from Ayan. Ayan's appearance gave off a tremendous sense ofoppression, and a single glance from him could make people tremble. However, Preston gave an impression of approachability.

But in this moment, Preston was cold all over when he said thesewords, and even Kian, who had seen much of the world, wasmomentarily stunned.

Kian soon caught up, though. He spoke with warmth in his voice, "Mr.Walker, divorce is merely the personal choice of a couple. If it waspurely due to relationship issues, Mrs. Simpson would have left Mr.Simpson by now, rather than continuing to maintain an affectionaterelationship with him, wouldn't you agree?"

Preston remained silent, his face devoid of any expression.

Kian continued, “Mr. Walker, now that we've said what needed to besaid, do you plan to keep this money?"

Kian bluntly raised the question.

This required an answer from Preston: to accept or reject the money.

If he accepted it, it meant he acknowledged Ayan's offer of help. If herefused it, his current predicament would remain unsolved.

Preston remained silent, his face tense like a tightly strung guitar string, ready to snap at any moment.

The two men locked eyes, and Preston hadn't spoken the entire time.Kian finally lowered his voice and said, "Is your silence an indication ofacceptance, Mr. Walker? In that case, I'll leave the money here. Thereare other matters in the company that require my attention. I'll take myleave."

Kian turned to leave but paused after a couple of steps. He looked backat Preston and added, "Oh, Mr. Walker, inside the bag, there's ahundred thousand. Mr. Simpson was concerned that it might not beenough for you, so he asked me to prepare an extra fifty thousand. Hesaid it's to thank you for taking care of Mrs. Simpson all these years. Asa friend, he believes you deserve special attention from him as herhusband.”

After speaking, Kian only glanced at Preston and then walked out of thebubble tea shop without lingering any longer.

Once outside, Kian immediately called Ayan to report the situation.Kian said, "Mr. Simpson, I left the money because Preston didn't refuseor accept it. It seems like he's in a tight spot and couldn't turn down themoney once it was offered.”

Ayan responded with a nonchalant "Hmm" and didn't say anythingmore.

Kian continued, "Mr. Simpson, do you want me to keep an eye onPreston, replace out where he's staying?"

Ayan refused, "No need. He can't afford to cause any trouble in hiscurrent state. Just keep an eye on the Armstrong family.”

Kian wrapped up the call, and Ayan immediately called Camille.

He told her, “The money has been delivered to him."

"Good," Camille replied without asking any further questions.

Ayan took the initiative, "Aren't you going to ask whether he accepted itor not?"

"Shouldn't he have?" Camille pursed her lips and spoke softly, "Youdidn't go, did you?"

Ayan chuckled, "Are you afraid of me going? Worried I might dosomething to him?"

Camille retorted, "What are you saying? I'm not thinking that way. I justdon't want you two to get into a dispute. Besides, it's just a smallmatter. You didn't need to go in person.”

Ayan continued to negotiate with a good attitude, implying, “If you knowthat I'm upset, show it through your actions. I don't want empty words.Got it?"

His tone was heavily suggestive, making Camille instantly think aboutthe events of last night. Her cheeks turned red, and her voice becametense and uncomfortable. She said, "You have a dirty mind."

Ayan was amused by her response. His voice was low and husky as hesaid, "What did I say? How does it make me dirty-minded? I just wantto tell you that if you think I'm being mistreated, give me a clear status. That way, I won't feel wronged. What about you? What are youthinking?"

Camille pursed her lips and chose not to respond to this man withfurther words.

She coldly stated, "That's enough for now. Goodbye!"

Camille then hung up the call.

Ayan listened to her irritated tone and smiled even more. He squintedhis eyes, put his phone down, and his expression shifted from beingamused to indifferent. He agreed to help Preston because he wanted tobuy a momentary peace.

Although he had clarified things with Kian, Ayan understood Prestonwell enough to know that he wouldn't cease contacting Camillepermanently.

Preston was like a pesky fly, constantly buzzing around. The more youtried to shoo him away, the more persistent he became. If you ignoredhim, he would escalate his tactics. Instead of dealing with that, it wasbetter to use some insect repellent to make him disappear temporarily. In the current situation, Ayan had the power to make Preston vanishpermanently or make it nearly impossible for him to make a comeback. However, if he did that, it would be much harder to figure out whatPreston intended to do. What leverage did Preston have against theSimpson family?

All these questions left Ayan unable to take any direct action againstPreston for the time being. Otherwise, how could Preston still bearound now?
