Chapter 1051: Blood And Money
Chapter 1051: Blood and Money
Camille gazed at Page, and every word from Page's mouth had thetone of reconciliation. Her goal today was to make amends.
Camille could read this attitude, but she sensed more than just anattempt at reconciliation. There was something else beneath thesurface, something that puzzled her.
She couldn't quite fathom why Page's transformation was so drastic. Was it genuine concern for her?
Camille bit her lip and allowed the thought to linger for a moment butthen pushed it away. She didn't dare entertain where such thoughtsmight lead.
Her expression, already tense with uncertainty, grew slightly stiffer asshe looked at Page. Her voice softened, though there was still nowarmth in it as she asked, "So, you've come to apologize and makeamends, haven't you?"
“Yes, I'm here to apologize, to say sorry to you. Can you forgive me thistime, Mom? I know I've been in the wrong. I understand if you don'tbelieve me, given my track record, but I'll show you my sincerity andmy change. Is that okay?" Page replied.
"Very well!" Camille said with a faint smile, though her eyes remainedunyielding.
Page was taken aback by Camille's response. She had prepared awhole bunch of words but now found herself at a loss. She looked atCamille, who had easily accepted her apology, and was momentarilystunned. She wasn't sure what to do next.
Camille observed Page's silence and blinked softly, "Why aren't yousaying anything? Didn't you say you'd show me your sincerity?"
Page hesitated for a moment and then quickly picked up some pastriesand coffee that were on a nearby table. "I brought these for you andyour colleagues.”
Camille glanced at them and then gave Yessica a meaningful look."Share these with everyone."
Yessica was also surprised, realizing Camille wasn't joking, and shereached out to take the pastries.
Page took out another set of snacks and handed them to Camille. "Iprepared these for you. Milk taro bubble tea is what many girls likethese days. Give it a try. And this cake is mango cake; it's delicious. Please have a taste.”
Camille remained motionless, simply looking at Page. Her expressionhadn't changed in the slightest. She coolly replied, "I'm allergic tomangoes. When I returned from Flento, I had to rush to the hospital inthe middle of the night because I had your mango pudding. Don't youremember?"
It had been a long time ago, but Camille would never forget it. Mangopudding was a dessert that Page had just learned to make at the time.Camille had considered declining but, seeing Page's attitude change soabruptly, she hadn't been able to refuse. To please Page, she hadeaten it, and in the middle of the night, she had ended up at thehospital due to an allergic reaction, itching all over and running a fever.Page had accused her of doing it intentionally to make her feel guilty.Camille had been unable to say anything at the time, as she had beentoo preoccupied to explain.
Since then, she had never eaten something she didn't like just toplease Page because it had only made their relationship more strained.Although they had never been close.
Camille's response to Brody and Page had been the same since shecould remember.
Their relationship had always been distant.
Even if Brody and Page never contacted her again, she wouldn't feelany discomfort.
At that time, Camille didn't know why. She still didn't know the truereason now, but she had come to terms with it. If something couldn't beachieved, there was no point in forcing it. It would only make everyonefeel tired.
Because of Camille's words, Page's hand, holding the things, remainedsuspended in the air. The two locked eyes, their expressions filled withcomplexity.
After several minutes of this silence, Page finally spoke, "I'm sorry,Cami. It was all my fault. It was because of me at that time, it was mymistake."
Camille gave a faint smile and took the things from Page. "How can itbe your fault? You couldn't have known about my mango allergy, so it'snot your fault. You just shouldn't have bought me mango cake now."Seeing this, Page was taken aback. Of course, she didn't want Camilleto consume it. If Camille had an allergic reaction and ended up in thehospital because of what she had brought, their relationship wouldworsen.
Page quickly said, "Cami, you're allergic to mango, so we won't eatthis. I'll get you something else later."
Camille replied, "No need. I appreciate the thought, but it's getting late, and I have work to do. Are you planning to stay here?"
She asked in a way that sounded more like she was informing Pageshe could leave.
Page nodded and said, "Alright, I won't disturb your work. How aboutdinner tonight? Can I take you out?"
Camille agreed, "Sure, I'll make a reservation then."
"Great, you choose, and we'll go wherever you like."
"Alright, we'll coordinate later!"
Camille smiled gently and had Yessica escort Page out.
She watched Page leave the company's premises, and when theelevator doors closed behind Page, Yessica returned to her. Yessicaspoke softly, “Cami, your mother asked me what you like to eat. I toldher I didn't know, and she seemed a bit unhappy but didn't get angry. She also wanted to exchange contact information. I couldn't refuse, so Igive her my facebook.”
Camille responded, "Yes, but block her from seeing your socialupdates.”
Yessica nodded, "Don't worry. I know how to handle this."
Camille gave Yessica a reassuring smile and then returned to heroffice.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Sienna, who hadimmediately sprung up from the couch. The two locked eyes briefly.Sienna's exaggerated actions puzzled Camille, who couldn't helpasking, "What's going on?"
Sienna asked, "Is she gone?"
Camille confirmed, "Yes, she's gone."
Sienna appeared incredulous. She opened the door and peeredoutside, but there was no sound of an argument or dispute, which wasunusual. Sienna asked, "What happened? You don't need me to protectyou anymore? It makes me feel quite useless.”
Camille walked to her desk, picked up the water glass, and took a longsip. She had spoken so much that she felt thirsty. After drinking thewater, she offered the pastries and milk tea to Sienna, "Afternoon tea, want some?"
Sienna assessed the food and asked, "Is it from your mother?"Camille couldn't help but frown. "Do you want to eat?"
Sienna declined, explaining, "I'm afraid it's poisoned.”
She glanced at the brand of the cake and milk tea, which was quiteexpensive. Even though Page could afford it, buying such priceysnacks for them was a significant expense. After all, they rarelyindulged in expensive treats from Page.
Camille sighed softly, and Sienna noticed her reaction. Sienna inquired,"What's wrong?"
Camille pursed her lips, her expression warm, and her voice soft. "I'mfeeling a bit tired.”
“Tired? Would you like to go home and rest? Work is almost done forthe day, and the remaining tasks I can handle myself."
“I's not physical tiredness; it's more about being mentally exhausted.”Sienna came over and gently massaged Camille's shoulders. Sheasked playfully, "Master Armstrong, how's this pressure? Is itcomfortable? Shall I get you a membership? The service here isexcellent. I can cater to your relaxation needs, available anytime, whether before or after work. So, would you like a membership?"
