My Ex-husband Begs Me Back
Chapter 1056: As Wishes

Chapter 1056: As Wishes

She discreetly pressed her lips together, harboring an indescribableemotion deep within her.

It was a feeling she couldn't quite articulate, and she wasn't sure what itsignified.

Camille remained unresponsive and simply looked at Page. Pagehesitated, then confessed her innermost ambitions, saying, “I don'twant the entire Armstrong family to be entirely under his control. I'maware that the majority of Armstrong Corp now leans toward Horace, and that's something I can't change. But what I can change is theArmstrong family's assets. Despite all the events that have occurred inthe family, I believe that even a weak camel is larger than a horse. Idon't want all my efforts in life to yield no returns. So, I must fight for myrightful share."

“This is your matter. Why do you assume that I'll definitely agree? Moreover, this situation isn't so severe that you need to come to me forreconciliation. After all, you must have evidence to support your case, given how much you know about him. If you have evidence, youalready have the upper hand. Are you hoping I'll join in and share thespoils?" Camille chuckled lightly, but her eyes remained icy. Her gazewas colder than before.

In response to her words, Page was candid. "Yes, you're right. I coulddo this without seeking your help. I might not even need anyone else.Once the time is right, I can produce the evidence I have and renderhim speechless.”

“In that case, why approach me?"

"Because I want assurance. When someone goes mad, they're capableof anything. I don't want to endanger my own safety and life. So, I needyour help.”

Page's expression changed, and her gaze returned to that kind ofprideful demeanor. She was inherently a person with a lot of integrity. Therefore, when she returned to her normal state, it was easy to seehow false her previous plea for forgiveness was. Even when she criedand shed tears, Camille had never believed that Page genuinelydesired forgiveness from the heart. Camille had always believed thatPage was a person with a sense of superiority, or in simpler terms, shelooked down on Camille.

This was the reason Camille never understood. When Page learnedthat Camille had her own company, Page initially assumed it was ascam or that Camille was using someone else's company as a meansto deceive them. However, once she realized that the company indeedbelonged to Camille, and not only that, but Camille had intervenedwhen the situation nearly led to the bankruptcy of Armstrong Corpduring the matter involving Elijah. Camille had successfully resolved thesituation and brought in a professional team from Mario to handle thechaotic affairs of Armstrong Corp. At the time, Page had scoffed at her,not thinking much of Camille's abilities. She refused to acknowledgeCamille's capabilities, yet she enjoyed the benefits Camille's abilitiesbrought. She even believed it was all just a matter of coincidence andCamille's luck.

But time revealed people's true nature. Over time and through variousexperiences, Page was forced to acknowledge Camille's competence. Most importantly, she had seen Camille's influence in Armstrong Corpand how highly she was regarded by the Simpsons. The Simpsonstreated Camille as if she were one of their own, and this conclusion wasdrawn after numerous tests and observations.

After carefully weighing her options, Page decided to change her mind. This led to the current conversation.

Page's straightforwardness elicited a light chuckle from Camille.Camille asked, "Why do you think I would help you? After all, youtreated me and my grandmother in a certain way, something I'll neverforget. Have you forgotten that?"

Page's expression shifted briefly, but she quickly regained hercomposure. She replied, "I've said what I needed to about yourgrandmother. It was her honor to become my father's second wife, considering she was nothing to begin with."

Camille retorted, "So what? Now you want my help, and my thoughtsare what matter most, aren't they?" She emphasized that a person'sstatus shouldn't justify mistreatment.

Even though Page's grandmother was her father's second wife, Camillebelieved there was no reason to refuse Page's request. Thegrandmother had done nothing wrong and had cared for Camille sinceshe was young, so Camille felt Page should be grateful.

Camille's thoughts remained inscrutable to Page, who inquired, "So,what would it take for you to help me? Should I apologize to yourgrandmother, or do you have something else in mind? Just say theword, and I'll do it."

Camille, however, coolly responded, “No need, there's nothingrequired.”

She believed an apology would only trouble her grandmother, whodidn't need it and should be left undisturbed.

Page frowned and asked, "So, you still won't help me, right?"

Camille affirmed, "No, I won't help you. What you do is your business. After all, in your eyes, I've probably never been part of the Armstrongfamily."

Perhaps Camille's attitude had soured Page's emotions. She huffedand her expression turned cold. Following Camille's words, she added,"Indeed, you've never been part of the Armstrong family, so what am Iexpecting from you?"

Page concluded her statement and rose, saying, "Camille, we'll meetagain. I believe you'll agree to my proposal before long. I hope for theday when we can collaborate.”

With that, Page departed.

Camille remained motionless at the dining table, lost in thought.Sienna, who was with her, had also fallen silent.

After a while, the server approached and softly reminded, "Master King, the lady has already settled the bill."

Sienna nodded and turned to Camille, asking, "Why so quiet? What'son your mind?"

Camille, in a hushed tone, sighed and looked at Sienna, asking, "I'mwondering if I'm a failure. Am 1?"

Sienna replied, "Nonsense. Why would you think you're a failure? Is itbecause of what she said? She's just trying to rile you up because youdidn't agree to her request. Do you really take her words to heart?"Camille shook her head and said, "I'm not taking her words to heart, butthe way she confidently said that I'll agree to collaborate with her in thefuture, does she have some secret assurance?"

Camille found it hard to describe her current emotions. She was feelingagitated and her thoughts were all over the place.

With a wry smile, Camille said, "You heard her; she said I've neverbeen part of the Armstrongs. If they don't consider me as one, why dothey keep coming to me and making so many demands?"

Camille's discomfort grew as she dwelled on the situation.

Sienna poured her a cup of hot water and handed it to her, speakinggently, "We can't change how others think, so we can only changeourselves. Don't let their words get to you; otherwise, they'll achievetheir goal. They might take pleasure in seeing us suffer behind ourbacks. So why let them succeed?"

Camille nodded softly and said, "I understand what you're saying. It'sprobably just that this all happened so suddenly, and I haven't had timeto process it."

Sienna followed up with a question, "Is your father really involved withsomeone else?"

"l don't know."

“In these circles, there are no absolute secrets. And why those people, who clearly know, don't dare to speak out, it's probably because thereare interests at play.”

Camille sighed in agreement, "Yes, it's all about interests.” Then, shesuddenly thought of something, sitting up straight. She looked atSienna and asked, "What if we don't know, but Ayan knew all along?"As Camille posed this question, Sienna was taken aback for a moment. She seriously pondered it, then blinked and said, unsure of what to say,"He... should not know, right? If he did, he would have told you a longtime ago, wouldn't he?"
