My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 1328: Pathological
Chapter 1328: Pathological
So it's probably impossible for Elijah to sacrifice himself and his son for Preston.
As for Preston, he feels completely safe now, but everything is under Ayan's surveillance. Ayan's reason for not doing anything to him is simply to see what he's up to. What are his motives? Otherwise, he wouldn't have kept Preston around until now.
When Ayan appeared at the company after many days of absence, the employees who hadn't seen him for a while were somewhat shocked. Especially with the news of Ayan being ill these days, the employees at Simpson Group started speculating because they hadn't seen Ayan for many days. Naturally, they linked him being sick to the rumors.
But seeing Ayan with no sign of illness on his face, still as dignified and noble as ever, without any trace of pathology, how could such a person be sick? So this rumor was instantly dispelled internally.
Ayan's first order of business upon returning to the company was to convene a meeting and provide a detailed report on all the recent developments.
So his day was quite busy.
Lunch was a quick meal ordered by Kian, eaten in the office during a break.
While eating, Kian briefed him on work. Ayan suddenly asked, "What's the situation with the Armstrong family?"
Because Kian mentioned yesterday that Brody came to the company looking for him but ended up waiting all morning. He also went to Franklin Bay to replace Camille, and even had lunch with her. Ayan wanted to ask Brody in person what Preston's real intentions were. At the same time, he wanted to inform Brody about Preston being treated like a pariah again, reminding him of what should and shouldn't be done. When Kian made the call in front of Ayan, the person who answered wasn't Brody but a household servant.
Because Brody's phone was off, they called the house phone.
The servant said, "Sir and Madam are on a trip. They left yesterday afternoon and won't be back for a few days." Kian was shocked, "They're on a trip?"
Kian found it hard to believe, but the servant's response was clear. Kian put down the phone and told Ayan, "Mr. Simpson, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong's relationship has been intense over the past six months. So going on a trip together seems a bit unscientific."
Kian showed Ayan the videos that had gone viral and said, "Mrs. Armstrong knows about Mr. Armstrong's affairs. She's not divorcing him even though she's causing a scene. Shouldn't they gather evidence instead of going on a trip?"
Ayan was also taken aback, his expression indifferent. He didn't want to get too involved in the Armstrong family's affairs. Instead, he had Kian relay the information to Horace, the future son-in-law of the Armstrong family, to handle it.
Since the Armstrong family wasn't home, there was no need to probe further for now. After lunch, Ayan resumed his work. Camille didn't get up until lunchtime. She arranged to have lunch with Sienna and then they went shopping for new clothes.
After shopping, the two didn't go home but went to a high-end café for afternoon tea.
Since they started working together, they hadn't been to such a upscale place for tea. Every day, they would order takeaway coffee or have instant coffee at the office while discussing work and gossip as if it were tea time.
So when Sienna and Camille entered the café, Sienna couldn't help but say, "Honestly, I feel a bit out of place here."
Camille smiled, "Is it because it's unfamiliar?"
"Yeah, I'd probably feel more comfortable buying a cup of milk tea by the roadside. Ah, a wild pig can't appreciate fine grains." Sienna wouldn't let herself off lightly, and Camille knew that.
They found a cozy spot and ordered their food, speaking softly after the waiter left. "We might run into someone we know in a place like this, so let's keep a low profile. We don't want to be photographed and end up as jokes in those social circles, seen as clueless country bumpkins who don't even know how to drink coffee properly," remarked Camille.
Sienna, taking a piece of complimentary fruit, replied, "Let's eat more and talk less."
Before she could say anything else, a voice from the next stall could be heard clearly.
"Alicia, have you really given up on that Ayan now?" asked a woman's voice gently.
And the response came, "Yes, I have. He's too hard to chase. Pursuing him has cost me all my dignity and even my self-respect. Right now, I just want to focus on completing this project and have no other thoughts."
Camille and Sienna exchanged glances, and Sienna whispered, "Who is it?"
Camille recognized the voice immediately. "Alicia."
Sienna nodded and smiled, "Seems like there's no soundproofing here."
"Their voices are just too loud," Camille remarked. It was perhaps because they didn't think there was anyone around. After all, this wasn't the best time for afternoon tea. If it were the weekend, there would be more people, but it was a workday, and the café wasn't crowded.
But it was a coincidence to overhear others' conversations behind them.
Camille and Sienna didn't say anything, as the poor soundproofing could lead to an awkward situation if their voices were accidentally heard loudly. The wife of the person being talked about was sitting right there. If Alicia knew Camille was in the next booth, she would probably want to replace a hole to hide in to ease the tension, or worse, avoid meeting Camille altogether.
So, to keep things peaceful, Camille softly said to Sienna, "Let's talk later."
Sienna understood her well and nodded in agreement.
But the conversation on the other side continued. Alicia's friend said, "You're so talented. Giving up on a man who doesn't belong to you will give you a whole forest. I mean, Ayan is just that. He may be capable and the CEO of Simpson Group, but you have to understand, he's someone else's man. Such men aren't worth your attachment. It's better to let go completely."
Alicia agreed, "You're right. I'm only focusing on work now."
