My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 1410: Persuasion
Chapter 1410: Persuasion
Ayan didn't immediately respond, but instead looked at Brody, then glanced at Grace and Regina, as the three of them had come down together.
A faint smile played on his lips, his gaze was meaningful, as he asked, "Is there something the three of you need to discuss? You all seem a bit out of sorts!" He was being deliberate.
Neither Regina nor Brody had any intention of answering.
Grace, on the other hand, spoke up, "Aunt Vere's child, who is my cousin and Cami's cousin as well, has been kidnapped. The kidnappers are demanding five million dollars, a sum we can't gather immediately Dad is considering selling off Armstrong Corp shares to rescue Vere."
Grace's tone was non-confrontational, with a flat delivery, yet everyone present could clearly hear her words. This naturally stirred up the uncles, who no longer held back their fear and directly confronted Brody.
"You want to sell off Armstrong Corp shares to help an outsider? This is unacceptable. My sister has just passed away, her shares in Armstrong Corp rightfully belong to her family, not to an outsider!" "Yes, even though they were in close contact, it is family that counts when it matters most. You can't just give my sister's legacy to someone else."
Both uncles were vehemently against it, a scenario Grace had anticipated. She had kept the information from them until now precisely to witness this confrontation, wanting to incite discord among them and see them clash. As long as they were unhappy, Camille would be satisfied.
Brody and Regina couldn't get a word in, completely cut off by the uncles' relentless questioning and resistance.
This continued for a while until Brody couldn't bear the noise any longer, feeling like his ears were about to burst.
He looked displeased as he finally said, "Enough, all of you, be quiet."
The atmosphere instantly quietened.
Everyone was stunned.
Seizing the opportunity, Brody continued, "This is my home. If you want to argue, then leave. This matter is my family's business, it's none of your concern. Don't think I don't know how you all have kept your distance over the years. Now that she's gone, you want a piece of the pie. That's wishful thinking!"
Brody's words shut down the uncles' thoughts and intentions from the start. This also signaled that Brody had never been fooled by their intentions.
Brody had hesitated to openly confront them for fear of trouble, preferring to wait until things were resolved before addressing the uncles. However, the situation with Regina and Vere forced his hand earlier than planned. Despite the circumstances, Brody showed no fear.
Grace, noticing the tension, gently spoke up once the silence settled.
She said, "Uncles, please don't misunderstand Dad. I trust him. Dad only wants to help Aunt, whom he treats like a sister due to his close relationship with Mom. There is no distinction between family and outsiders in his eyes."
While Grace had remained silent until now, her simple statement incited the uncles' displeasure.
Pointing at Regina, the uncles continued, "Is her relationship with your mother genuine, or just for show? Only she knows. Something you all might not be aware of is that back then, she was the one set to marry your father, but your grandfather objected, so your mother stepped in. As a result, she cut ties with our family. Who knows if her relationship with your mother is genuine or if she has ulterior motives?" This revelation shocked Grace and Camille, as well as Ayan, who was unaware of this information. Due to the limited number of people aware of the incident, it had remained hidden.
The uncles' words left Grace and Camille visibly shocked.
The uncles' disdainful snort left Brody and Regina silent, leaving their reactions, acceptance, or thoughts on the matter unclear.
Grace, composed yet visibly affected, looked at the two of them. While she maintained her composure, the news had shaken her.
After a moment of silence, Grace's voice rang out, "Dad, Aunt, is what Uncle said true?"
She looked at them, fully expecting Brody to remain tight-lipped, as he had lost interest in Grace. However, Grace looked at Regina and spoke softly, "Aunt, don't lie to me. You know I trust you. Just tell me the truth."
Regina hesitated, her conflicted emotions evident. Perhaps she connected Grace's defense of her earlier with the current situation and sought to enlist Grace's support.
Regina briefly paused before addressing Grace, while the uncles tried once more to sway Grace's belief.
Disregarding their attempts, Grace calmly stated, "Whatever the uncles say, I want to hear Aunt's answer."
Regina tight-lipped, finally mustered the courage to speak, "Grace, what your uncles said is partly true. However, that is all in the past and I never had any such intentions. If I did, given my relationship with your mother, she would have agreed."
Regina glanced at Grace, reaching out to touch her arm, her voice low, "Grace, can you believe me?"
Grace remained silent, her gaze fixed on Regina.
After a moment, Regina spoke again, "Trust me, Grace. I will explain everything later. Right now, please help me convince you dad. Vere is still in danger and only you can help him. Please, Grace, help us." Touched deeply, Regina couldn't hold back her tears, her emotions raw. But Grace remained unmoved, simply turning to Brody and asking, "Dad, what do you think? Will you help?"
Brody, lost in thought, remained silent.
Seeing this, Regina went to him, gripping his shirt and pleaded, "Brother-in-law, please, I beg you!"
Brody still didn't speak, his mind occupied with calculations.
