My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 1414: Dependence
Chapter 1414: Dependence
After all, they would feel that they had paid the corresponding price, and then they would calmly enjoy everything that the future holds.
Ayan's reminder left Grace somewhat perplexed. She softly said, "Actually, I'm conflicted. I understand Mr. Simpson's intention for me to make a choice. Either fully commit to taking responsibility for this matter or if I choose Regina, then it won't be easy to get along with my father in the future. He might replace various reasons to kick me out of the Armstrong family. But if I choose my father, and this matter has nothing to do with him, wouldn't I be wrongly accusing him?"
"Do you still think it has nothing to do with him? If it truly has nothing to do with him, why did he suddenly suggest going on a trip? It's not like him. If it has nothing to do with him, could he just watch someone jump off in front of him? All suspicions point to him. Does that benefit him in any way?"
"So Mr. Simpson believes that it must be related to the two of them, but we can only temporarily focus on one?"
"That's right. If both of them remain tight-lipped, we won't be able to move forward no matter what. However, now Regina has laid everything out, including the child, which means there are vulnerabilities in her. As long as we temporarily take one down, can we still fear the other won't speak?"
Several days had passed, and with the weather being an issue, there was very little evidence to gather. Perhaps there was some, but it would take time to replace. However, this matter couldn't be prolonged any further. If others were to replace out and expose it, people would suspect the true nature of the Armstrong family's concealment.
Grace took a deep breath, caught in inner turmoil.
Camille, sitting in the front passenger seat, remained silent, simply gazing silently at the passing scenery outside the window.
Upon returning to Franklin Bay, the three of them got out of the car. Grace remained in the guest room because she had woken up early in the morning and wanted to rest for a while. Downstairs, only Camille and Ayan were left.
Taking advantage of the absence of others, Camille took the initiative to bring up the matter. She said, "Ayan, I don't know what's happening to me. I always feel a bit detached when facing the Armstrong family's affairs, as if I'm not part of the Armstrong family, completely incapable of empathizing with Grace and considering the Armstrong family's situation from Grace's perspective."
In truth, Camille could guess to some extent the reasons behind Grace's hesitation and conflict. Grace's worries stemmed from the future of the Armstrong family. If Brody were to go to prison for this matter, then Grace would be the only one left in the Armstrong family, consumed by hatred. But Grace had no experience managing the company. Would the Armstrong family's shares and real estate assets also disappear?
If things were fast, the Armstrong family would cease to exist in a few years. If things were slow, it might take more than ten years, but it would still be a fleeting moment.
Camille's words made Ayan's expression momentarily change, but it quickly returned to normal. He gently pinched Camille's earlobe with his hand and spoke in a soothing voice, "You are already part of our Simpson family. Naturally, you are no longer part of the Armstrong family. Your thoughts are understandable, and as for feeling detached from the Armstrong family's affairs, I think it's normal. After all, they were unkind to you first, weren't they? Since that's the case, you naturally don't need to care about them, right?"
Ayan knew how to comfort people, and with his words, Camille's heart felt much better.
At least there wouldn't be as many burdens and thoughts weighing her down.
Camille pursed her lips and smiled lightly, "You make it sound like I have no way to refute that. So, for now, I won't dwell on what's in my heart. Instead, let me ask you a question about the present: Between the two of them, who do you think will admit this first?"
Ayan squinted his eyes, feigning seriousness, and replied, "If I guess correctly, it's fine. But if I'm wrong, will it affect your trust in me?"
"I think it might!" Camille responded in a joking tone, then continued, "Regardless of accuracy, give me your answer first!"
He had naturally pondered over this question as well. Judging by their personalities, Brody would never voluntarily admit it.
Ayan also told Camille the same.
Curious, Camille asked, "If he doesn't admit it, then it must be Regina, right?"
The situation with Regina was still unclear because she had initially planned to go abroad. If Grace hadn't tried to stop Regina, she would already be at the airport waiting to take off.
So, after Camille finished speaking, she immediately denied with conviction, "I think Regina is an ambitious person. Someone like her wouldn't sacrifice herself for love and trade one man for another." "Smart!" Ayan snapped his fingers, a hint of a smile flickering in his dark eyes. He said, "Regina probably had planned her retreat in advance. If it weren't for a moment of weakness falling into Grace's trap, she would have left by now. But this is also her retribution, after all, actions have consequences."
Camille took a deep breath, raised an eyebrow, and spoke in a low voice, "That's what she deserves."
Ayan looked at her, her expression slightly serious, but she didn't continue the topic. She simply said, "I'll go upstairs and check if Grace has fallen asleep. I'll share my thoughts and plans with her." "Don't you want to talk to me?"
"Haven't you already guessed?" Camille stood up, looking at Ayan, and said, "Grace is probably struggling with this matter. She doesn't seem to be doing well."
"It's understandable because she relies more on her parents. Given what has happened, she has actually handled it quite well. At least she hasn't completely broken down and become incapable of doing anything. I had already anticipated this situation and made preparations in this regard."
"How did you prepare?"
"If she does break down, then all the decision-making power will be in your hands. As your husband, it's only natural for me to bear the responsibility for you." Ayan only mentioned the surface details, clearly avoiding explaining his exact plans.
However, Camille could guess the general idea. It would most likely involve handling the situation between the two without any mercy.
So, Camille didn't want to dwell on it any further. She simply nodded faintly and went upstairs.
In the guest room.
The door was closed but not locked, so Camille could enter directly. Since Horace wasn't there, Grace had no reason to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable.
Camille opened the door and saw Grace sitting upright on the edge of the bed, facing the window, lost in thought.
Hearing the noise, she subconsciously looked over and saw Camille. She gave a faint smile, a smile so light it almost disappeared.
Camille also squinted her eyes and asked, "Aren't you supposed to be sleeping? Why aren't you asleep?"
"I can't sleep," Grace admitted honestly, her voice lacking energy. She asked, "Cami, do you need something from me?"
