My Ex-husband Begs Me Back
Chapter 765 Persistence

He seemed to have an attitude of being dissatisfied with Camiile. Hiseyes were filled with crimson anger as he spoke, "Cami, can't you be alittle more ambitious? There's not just one man in this world, Ayan. Can't you live without him?"

Camille didn't know why the conversation always ended up back onAyan whenever she talked to Preston. Whether it was over the phoneor in person, the topic would always circle back to Ayan and she didn'tlike it at all.

She pursed her lips slightly and her face became serious as her gazeturned cold and distant. She said, "Let's end this topic now. I don't wantto talk about it anymore."

“Is it that you don't want to continue talking about it or is it that you don'twant to face reality? Cami, making mistakes isn't scary but what's trulyterrifying is knowing that you're wrong but refusing to change.”

His words were full of accusations as if Camille had committed someunforgivable sin which shocked and surprised her greatly.

Camille stared at him without blinking for a moment before realizingthat she no longer recognized Preston anymore. This feeling had beengrowing inside of her slowly until now where it felt like roots had takenhold deep within her heart.

She tightly pursed her lips while looking at him indifferently beforesaying in a voice devoid of any warmth,"l don't know what you meanexactly but Preston, I do not believe that sticking by what I believe inmy heart is wrong. Don't you have something that you've been holdingonto all this time?"

"Yes everyone does but some people cling onto something wrong whileothers cling onto something right.”

"How do we define right from wrong?" asked Camille coldly.

Preston replied, "Holding onto unrequited love for so long only for itsuddenly being reciprocated doesn't mean everything will be perfect. It's just out of pity because he feel bad for how long he has kept youwaiting around; then everything will return back to square one again."Preston once again brought up all the issues about how Camilleshouldn't be back with Ayan. There was a moment when Camille reallywanted to tell him that she and Ayan had actually divorced a long timeago, and they were now just ex, but Ayan was pursuing her again. Butthese words stopped at the tip of her tongue as she held back.

It seemed unnecessary to tell him because even if she did, he wouldprobably still think that she had always been the meek one in thismarriage, never making any effort for herself. He would also wonderwhy she would want to get involved again since she had already freedherself from it.

However, Camille's understanding was not like that. If a relationship ormarriage did not cross certain boundaries and only consisted ofmisunderstandings or solvable conflicts, then getting back together waspossible as long as they felt suitable for each other. Other people'sopinions didn't seem so important.

Camille silently took a breath and didn't want to continue talking withhim anymore. He was completely living in his own world now where nomatter what anyone said or decided, he believed he was right.

Camille lowered her eyes and became more convinced of this ideawhile maintaining an expressionless face at its extreme point. Her lackof response made Preston have different thoughts about her situation.Preston asked indifferently: "Cami, do you think I'm too harsh on you?But I'm doing this for your own good; I won't harm you."

He continued by saying that everyone in this world will abandon herexcept for himself who has been by her side all these years despitebreaking off due to Ayan. He remained standing there waiting forCami's return because he truly cared about her well-being unlike otherswho may deceive or mislead her intentions.

"Preston," said Cami coldly without any emotion on display towards himwhile looking directly into his eyes which showed signs of pressurebuilding up inside them from trying too hard persuading someone elseagainst their wills - "I don't need your false promises nor do I requireanyone else's validation."

Camille said, "You've repeated these words countless times. Honestly, Idon't want to hear them anymore. If you really think I'm an importantfriend, then I hope you won't say these things that I don't want to hearand even replace repulsive. Preston, after our years of friendship, I don'tbelieve you don't know what annoys me. If you think that I'm someonewho can be easily persuaded by others with just a few words, then letme tell you that you really don't understand me at all. Maybe you neverhave because I'm not the person in your mind."

Since she's made her decision, please respect it and stop pouring coldwater on her every time because a true friend who understands herwon't influence her decision-making process even if they disagree withit; they'll only offer constructive advice and nothing more.

Camille expressed all of her emotions and dissatisfaction in one breathwhile sounding slightly agitated. As soon as she finished speaking, theair in the corridor became quiet.

The two locked eyes for a moment before Camille didn't give Prestonany chance to speak again; instead she said,"If my words make youunhappy then sorry but every word that came out of my mouth issomething that comes from within."

After saying this Camille turned around and walked towards theconference room without giving Preston another glance.

Preston watched as she left before slamming his hand against the wallcausing pain, but he remained expressionless as if he felt no pain at all.His face was extremely cold as he stood there motionless for quitesome time until Louise came out of the conference room instead ofCamille.

She had overheard their conversation earlier but quickly returned to herposition, fearing that she might be noticed. After Camille entered theroom and sat down again, she came back.

Louise met Preston's gaze, but quickly looked away as she sensed hisdispleasure. She was anxious because she had been waiting for aresponse to Preston's words from a few days ago, but had receivednone. In contrast, Preston remained calm and collected when he sawLouise. He didn't even remember what he had said to her before, so hisreaction was indifferent.

The two of them stared at each other for a moment before Prestonturned around to leave. Just then, Louise called out to him urgently:"Mr. Baxter!"

Preston stopped in his tracks and glanced at Louise with anunemotional expression on his face. "What is it?" he asked.

Louise pressed on with her question: "Mr. Baxter, do you rememberwhat you said to me earlier?”

Preston brushed past her question and replied coolly: "I say manythings every day; which one are you referring to?"

Louise's face grew serious as she reminded him: "You promised thatyou would help me leave the company and this project.”

"And what do I get in return?" Preston sneered.
