Chapter 899: Leverage

Chapter 899: Leverage

As the words spread through the air, everyone fell silent in an instant.Even the architects who had been siding with Preston didn't respond. The question left everyone speculating, but due to Preston's status, nobody dared to discuss it openly.

Camille glanced at everyone and took the initiative to break the silence.“It's getting late, and everyone has worked hard today. Let's meet againtomorrow.”

With that, everyone waved goodbye and dispersed.

Camille walked towards her car, with Summer following closely.Summer spoke up, "Miss Camille, can I ask you a question?"

Only Camille and Summer were left.

Camille stopped and looked at Summer. "What do you want to ask?""Does Miss Camille know the truth behind Louise's death? Is it reallyrelated to Mr. Baxter?"

Summer's question was straightforward, her eyes filled with curiosity.Camille couldn't know what she was thinking. She emotionlesslyreplied, "This is a question that only the police can answer. I don'tknow, and if there is any truth behind it, it's up to the police to reveal it.I'm sorry, I can't give you an answer."

"Miss Camille, I mean no harm. The impact of this incident issignificant, and the company is also concerned. They asked me toinquire carefully. Apart from Miss Camille, all of us architects’companies are worried about this issue and hope to get some clarity. So, if you know anything, could you tell me?"

Summer made a prayer gesture with her hands, her eyes full ofcuriosity.

Camille gazed at Summer and said in a low voice, "I understand yourconcern, and I'm also worried about how this might affect the project. But I genuinely don't know, so I apologize.”

Summer pursed her lips, looking at Camille and confirming that shewas being sincere. She smiled lightly and said, "Alright, I understand. No need to apologize. After all, I'm just trying to replace out for thecompany.”

Camille nodded, exchanged a few more words with Summer, and thenbid her farewell as she got into her car.

After watching Camille's car leave, Summer turned and walked towardsthe exit, which was closer to the roadside.

The parking lot was empty, with only a few cars parked, includingJenson's and those of the other museum staff. Summer walked alongthe path towards the exit. Just as she was about to reach the exit, shesuddenly heard Quintus's voice.

Quintus sounded anxious as he said, "Mr. Walker, the public isspeculating whether Louise's death is related to you. Many people evensay that you killed Louise and framed Sean for the murder. The video ofSean has made most of the netizens doubt you. What should we donow?"

Quintus had made several phone calls before finally getting in touchwith Preston. He had prepared himself to go directly to Flento if hecouldn't reach Preston.

Upon hearing Quintus's words, Preston's face darkened even further. He furrowed his brow tightly, pressing Quintus for an explanation, "Whyare you telling me now?"

With one hand, Preston opened his computer to check the currentonline situation, which was much more severe than what Quintus hadjust described.

Not only were people suspecting him, but they had also dug up hisconnection with Sean. If this continued, they might soon expose histrue identity.

For Preston, this situation brought only harm and no benefit.

His face turned extremely cold, and he said, "Quintus, I trusted you andgave you your position. Is this how you repay me?"

Quintus quickly explained, "Mr. Walker, I just saw these messages, andI immediately tried to contact you. I called you in the afternoon, but youdidn't answer. I also sent you messages, but at that time, Mr. Evansnotified the police that they might come to the museum for investigationand questioning at any moment. We must stay in the museum andcouldn't use phones. I didn't know what happened outside.”

Quintus felt unfairly accused. When he first saw those messages, hewas utterly shocked.

His mind was in chaos, and his initial thought was to contact Prestonimmediately and let him know about the situation in Hance. Otherwise,he had no way of knowing how things would develop.

Quintus acknowledged his mistake at work, but he also felt helpless. He was just a mere secretary with no real power, and he had nobodyaround him who could carry out his orders. He felt powerless.Especially when faced with Preston's questioning, he felt quitewronged.

However, Preston couldn't feel any of Quintus's grievances. Afterhearing Quintus’s explanation, Preston's face became even darker, andhis voice carried a chilling tone, "You said Jenson instructed you all tostay in the museum and not use your phones to communicate with theoutside world?"

"Yes, it was Mr. Evans’ decision. He said since Louise was part of thisproject, and with Sean's situation, the police might come to themuseum for investigation and questioning at any time. The publicattention was significant, so the police didn't come this afternoon."Quintus explained in a low voice, but Preston didn't seem to hear himat all.

Preston only knew that Quintus had failed to contact him immediatelybecause of Jenson's arrangements, which prevented Quintus fromreaching him. It was these arrangements that led to the currentsituation.

Preston snorted coldly and said, "Who else besides you?"

Quintus told him the truth.

But Preston still didn't believe him. He said, "You don't need to worryabout this matter anymore. Go and investigate Jenson for me. Find outif he has any connection with Ayan. Remember, if he has anyconnection with anyone around Ayan, take it seriously."

Quintus asked with some confusion, "Mr. Walker, are you suspectingMr. Evans?”

"Don't ask so many questions. Just do as I say."

"Alright, I understand. I'll start investigating Jenson now," Quintusreplied in a subdued tone. He then asked softly, “But how do we handlethis situation? The suspicion and speculation about you are growing, and the police will likely approach me or contact you directly.”

"What's the rush? It has nothing to do with me. Even if they approachme, what can they do?" Preston said coldly, without a hint of fear. Hejust snorted, letting Quintus know that there was no need to benervous, and to stay calm. If the police really wanted to replace him, theycould contact him directly.

With Preston's words, Quintus’s worries gradually eased.

He was also worried that his direct connection to Preston would makehim a scapegoat. After all, Sean was Preston's secretary, and theywere even related by blood. Now, Sean was accused of murderpossibly committed by Preston, and Quintus couldn't help but fear thathe might become the scapegoat one day.

Quintus felt his emotions were in turmoil, and he was completely lostafter all the events of this afternoon. After talking to Preston, heimmediately left in his car, not noticing that Summer was hiding in thecar next to him.

Watching Quintus's car leave, Summer slowly stood up.

Her feet were numb from squatting, and her expression was dazed andabsent. The bits of information she had just heard were not much, butthey were incredibly unbelievable.

She tried to organize her thoughts, but they remained in chaos.Especially when Quintus mentioned investigating Jenson, it made hereven more confused. Was Quintus working for a so-called Mr. Walker? But wasn't he Mr. Baxter's secretary? Why was he doing things for Mr.Walker?

Summer felt increasingly lost, her mind couldn't make sense of it all.She felt her brain wasn't enough to handle this, but if she didn't figure itout, she would remain restless.

It was past ten in the evening.

Camille and Ayan were watching a movie when Camille's phone rang.At this hour, Camille's phone rarely rang, so she immediately feltworried. Looking at the caller ID, her brows furrowed.
