My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 962: Cool Breeze
Chapter 962: Cool Breeze
"We..."
"Oh, I get it. You're still in the "getting to know each other’ stage!" Ayaninterrupted Kian, speaking slowly. "So, you're still single, and you don'tunderstand the feeling of having a family, someone at home missingyou. That's why I want to go back early; my wife misses me."
Kian's eyes widened, and he was completely stunned. He began todoubt if this was really Ayan.
Could someone be controlling him?
Kian was left speechless for a while and couldn't replace words. Ayan, onthe other hand, didn't seem to mind at all and continued speaking as ifnothing was amiss. "Hurry back, take care of your matters, and I wantto return to Hance City soon. You're not getting any younger, and youshould get to know Yessica better. So, seize this opportunity with thegirl Mrs. Simpson introduced you to. You can't go wrong with her, don'tmiss this chance. You'll realize the benefits of marriage once you'remarried. Wherever you go, someone cares for you, and that feeling istruly wonderful."
Kian was shocked and didn't know what to say. It was almost as if Ayanwas hinting at something. "Are you saying...?"
Ayan didn't give him a chance to continue; he simply hung up.
Kian sighed in frustration; Ayan's teasing almost drove him crazy. Hethought about how someone had professed her feelings for him andwas now acting like this. Shouldn't they want to know how he's doing,or at least show some concern?
Although Kian and Yessica hadn't officially become a couple, they hadfrequent contact. Most of the messages were from Yessica, as Kianwas a slow mover in matters of love. He hadn't been in a relationshipbefore and was unsure how to act. When Camille introduced Yessica,he had accepted out of politeness, intending to clarify his intentionslater with Yessica.
Yessica was a lively and outgoing girl, and she had shown interest inhim but hadn't openly confirmed their relationship. It was more of a "Ilike you, but I won't force you to be with me. Even if we do get together,I want you to confess to me" kind of situation.
So, their relationship had remained in this state until now, with Kiangetting used to Yessica's presence. Suddenly, without any warning orexplanation, Yessica had gone silent. Adding to his confusion wasAyan's unusual phone call, which left him feeling even more unsettled.Kian maintained his silence for a while, a smile playing on his lips. Thenhe decided to message Yessica, "I've been busy with something for thepast couple of days. Once I'm done, can we meet in person? I havesomething to discuss with you."
Yessica promptly read the message and replied, "Sure, can you pickme up? Is that okay?"
"Okay," Kian responded. Suddenly, he felt a spark of anticipation hehadn't expected.
That night seemed peaceful, but in both Hance and Fola, there was anunderlying sense of approaching storm.
As the night passed, the following morning's sunlight was still radiant.Ayan and Kian had gotten up early, around six in the morning, andjoined the secretary and other staff to head to Fola. Ayan was busy allday, with no time to spare.
He had managed to send a message to Camille during lunch, but shehadn't replied. Ayan figured she might be busy. However, as the daywent on and there was still no response from Camille, he started toworry. Perhaps last night's incident had embarrassed her?
Such thoughts crossed his mind but didn't linger. Instead, he decided tocall Camille. However, she didn't answer.
Ayan felt a growing sense of unease. Camille's lack of response wasunusual. She had been enthusiastic the previous day, so why was shesilent now? He tried calling her again, but there was no answer.Growing increasingly worried, Ayan dialed the number to the residence. The housekeeper answered, and Ayan asked, his voice tinged withurgency, "Is Mrs. Simpson at home?"
The housekeeper replied, "Mrs. Simpson hasn't returned yet. She's outhaving dinner with Mrs. Ward. Do you want to speak to Timmy?"
"No, it's fine. Please ask Mrs. Simpson to call me when she returns.”Despite knowing Camille's schedule, Ayan's expression remainedunchanged, and a faint aura of indifference lingered on hiscountenance. Kian, who was by his side, noticed and quietly inquired,"Mr. Simpson, is there something wrong?"
Ayan's face darkened, and his deep eyes remained devoid of any extraemotion. He simply said, "Nothing, let's go back to the hotel first.”
Kian nodded subtly.
Upon returning to the hotel's entrance, Ayan instructed Kian to join thesecretary and others in visiting the injured villager at the hospital. Theirflight to Hance was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, and thesubsequent matters were no longer of great concern to him.
Kian acknowledged with a nod before heading to the hospital. Ayan, onthe other hand, returned to his hotel room. It was already past 8 PM,yet there was still no word from Camille.
This heightened sense of unease gnawed at him. The woman who hadexpressed her longing for him just yesterday had suddenly gone silenttoday. She wasn't responding to messages or calls. It all seemed ratherinexplicable.
Ayan resisted the urge to call Camille again and disrupt her outing withSienna. Instead, he patiently waited until well past 10 PM before dialingher number once more.
This time, Camille picked up after a few rings.
However, instead of speaking right away, Camille waited in silence forAyan's voice. Ayan, too, chose to stay silent.
After nearly half a minute of silence, Camille finally spoke, her tonecold, "You called me. Why aren't you saying anything?"
Ayan could sense the chill in Camille's voice. His face turned serious, and his deep eyes showed concern. His voice, a bit hoarse, finallybroke the silence, "What's wrong?"
Camille replied in a casual tone, "It's nothing, really."
His voice held a hint of amusement, but his handsome face remaineddevoid of any discernible smile. There was no trace of extra emotion onhis features. He remarked, "You call this “nothing? Did what I saidbother you, or is something else on your mind?"
Camille was seated on the balcony of her bedroom. It was late at night, and a cool breeze wafted through, but she felt no chill. Her faceremained expressionless, and her gaze was unfocused. She had onehand on her lips and was lost in thought.
She replied calmly, “Nothing's wrong."
Ayan's voice carried a hint of firmness, “Camille.”
Camille continued with her cold tone, “Is everything settled on yourend?"
"Yes, everything went smoothly.”
"Good." Camille's tone was still emotionless. "Then we'll talk when youcome back."
"Cami." Ayan's voice was firmer, with a hint of concern. "Why can't youjust tell me what's going on? Didn't we agree not to ignore each other?"
