Chapter 964: Maturity

Chapter 964: Maturity

Camille responded with a faint smile, neither denying nor confirming.Afterward, they didn't dwell on the topic any further. Camille watched asthe nanny took Timmy and left for preschool with the driver. Only thendid Camille return to her bedroom.

Camille checked the flight information, giving herself a rough estimateof the time.

For the entire morning, she stayed home alone, taking leisurely walksin the villa garden, basking in the sun. The day was idyllic, but her heartfelt hollow, restless, and full of random thoughts.

She had little appetite, so she had some bread and fruit for brunch. Shewaited, patiently, until around two o'clock when she sat on the bedroombalcony, feeling the breeze against her skin, and heard the sound of acar engine approaching.

Her closed eyes snapped open, and her body tensed instantly. Shestared blankly at the ceiling for almost half a minute before finallygetting up from the lounge chair and walking out of the bedroom, heading downstairs.

As she descended the stairs, the front door was pushed open from theoutside. Since the front door faced the staircase, their eyes met almostinstantly.

They stared at each other for a moment. The man outside the doorreacted first, stepping inside. He changed into comfortable homeslippers. Behind him, Kian followed, carrying luggage. The man saidcasually, "You can leave it here. You should go and rest. No need to goto the office this afternoon.”

Kian nodded and felt deeply moved, "Alright." Kian glanced at Camille, who was still standing on the stairs, and then spoke in a low voice, "Mr.Simpson, Mrs. Simpson, I'll take my leave."

Ayan nodded and Camille remained unresponsive. Kian didn't stay asecond longer and left hurriedly.

Ayan ignored the luggage by the door and walked directly inside. Hechanged into a pair of comfortable slippers and walked towards theinside. Standing at the foot of the stairs, he looked up at Camille andasked, "Do you want to talk downstairs or in the bedroom?"

He knew Camille wouldn't want to wait for even a second longer, soeven though he didn't want to continue this conversation, he had to.Camille lightly glossed over without looking at him. Her voice carried noemotion or warmth as she replied, "Let's talk here. After all, it's just thetwo of us at home."

Her words made Ayan furrow his brows instinctively, his voice tingedwith a hint of helplessness. "So, you've arranged everything for Timmyand the others too? You insist on clearing things up today?"

"The arrangements for Timmy and the others were just to prevent ourdispute from affecting them," Camille replied. "If you think it would bebetter to have them here for this conversation, I can call them rightaway. So, what's your preference?"

She said this and took a few more steps towards him. Although Camillewas over 5'6", there was still a significant height difference between herand Ayan. At this moment, when she spoke, she maintained her usualeye level, which meant her gaze fell on his jawline, and she faintlydetected the scent of tobacco coming from him. This made hersubconsciously furrow her eyebrows before lifting her foot to quicklywalk towards the living room, trying to maintain some distance fromhim.

But just as she had taken a step, Ayan grabbed her wrist.

Camille instinctively pulled away, her tone commanding, "Let go of me!"Her voice was authoritative.

Naturally, Ayan didn't comply, but he didn't exert much force either. Still,it was enough to prevent Camille from breaking free.

His deep, unwavering gaze was fixed on Camille. He said, "We cantalk, but you have to agree to one condition.”

Camille's expression instantly turned cold. She looked at Ayan as if shehad heard the most absurd joke. She said, “I'm sorry, but consideringwhat you've done, why should I agree to any of your conditions? Mr.Simpson, aren't you being a bit too overbearing? Or are you planning touse the same tactics on me as you do with your company and yourbusiness partners?"

Although Camille was smiling, there was no hint of amusement in herexpression. Her bright, wide eyes stared at Ayan, and her gaze wasfilled with obvious coldness. It was as if she were telling Ayan, "You'requite a joke."

Ayan's attempt to continue was stifled by Camille's attitude. He replied,“I'm not asking you to agree to unreasonable demands. You can dowhatever you want to me, but don't mention breakup to me, and don'tleave home or move to Maple Leaves Mansion because of this."

He expressed his thoughts, but Camille didn't accept them. She said, “Iwon't agree to any demands from you. What you're asking for right nowis excessive, Mr. Simpson. Are you not willing to have a properconversation with me?"

If they wanted to have a productive conversation, why bring up thingsthat would upset her?

They locked eyes for a while, and it was evident that Ayan was losingthis silent battle. He knew that if they didn't clear things up now,Camille's anger and resentment would only grow.

Feeling somewhat helpless, he took a deep breath and releasedCamille's wrist. In the next moment, all she left him with was the sightof her back.

One minute later, they sat face to face on the living room couch. Theireyes remained fixed on each other, and Camille's voice, calm andunhurried, broke the silence. "You said we should have a properconversation. Why are you not speaking now?"

Ayan's deep gaze remained focused on her, and he spoke in anexceptionally gentle tone, "Where would you like to start?"

Camille taunted, "Why did you lie to me? If I hadn't found out, wouldyou have never told me? Or were you planning another drama of “realdivorce and remarriage’ with me?"

Ayan's expression grew heavier, and he spoke in a subdued tone, "Inever thought that way. I just didn't know how to say it to you."

Camille scoffed, "Oh, it's not that you didn't know how to say it to me;it's just that you didn't know how to continue deceiving me, right? Afterall, in your eyes, I have zero intelligence, and you can make anydecision you please, thinking it would satisfy you. You didn't need to tellme, not even ask for my opinion, because you were confident enoughto manipulate me, and even..."

Camille's anger escalated as she spoke, and her emotions becamehighly charged. She stared at Ayan, her facial expressions reflectingher feelings. She continued, "I've asked you countless times, and I'vetold you numerous times that I don't like being deceived. I don't want tobe deceived, not even by well-intentioned lies. I hope we can be honestwith each other. I won't deny that I've hidden some insignificant thingsfrom you, but they were truly minor. But you, on the other hand? Youdidn't just hide things; you deceived me, played tricks on me!"Camille's laughter was mocking, and her expression was filled withsarcasm. Once, she genuinely wanted a divorce, and she truly wantedto remarry. But now, he had just revealed to her that they had neveractually divorced.

Is this not laughable?

Camille's words weighed heavily on Ayan, and he squinted, his voiceturning low and hoarse, "I never thought that way. At that time, youwere adamant about getting a divorce in the hospital, and you had justgiven birth to Timmy. I couldn't ignore your physical condition, so I hadno choice but to make that decision. I admit, my choice was veryselfish, and I didn't consider your feelings, but I don't regret doing it.""Fine, you thought it was for the best for us and used a fake divorce tofool me. But what about later? When you willingly proposed remarriage, didn't you think it was the right time to be honest with me?" Shequestioned.

He said, "I did think about it, but I didn't know if you could accept it. Iwasn't sure, so I didn't know if the timing was right.”

Ayan appeared almost like a child who had made a mistake, facingCamille's relentless questions. His answers lacked any confidence, ashe knew he had been in the wrong. He felt good about it, but Camilledidn't, and he had no valid excuses at this moment. However, he stillhoped Camille would grant him one request. He said in a low voice,"Cami, can't you give me a chance?"
