Chapter 967: Letting Go
Chapter 967: Letting Go
"Use her phone number to locate her address, then go straight there,"he ordered, his handsome face devoid of any expression or emotion.Kian nodded but still asked, "Should I have a few people follow us?"Ayan opened his eyes, and a coldness emanated from his deep gaze.He looked out the window, his eyes filled with a chilling indifference. This demeanor continued until Kian drove them to Cora's residence.Cora was currently staying in a rather ordinary motel. Instead of drivingdirectly to the motel's entrance, they parked on the side of the roadopposite the motel.
Once the car came to a stop, Kian softly inquired, “Mr. Simpson, ourpeople are also here. Should we wait for Cora to appear, or should wetake the move?"
Ayan's gaze remained cool and calm. He replied indifferently, "Find outwhich room she's staying in, and go straight up."
Kian nodded and then watched as Ayan pushed open the car door andleft.
Ayan walked towards the motel with deliberate, measured steps. Evenfrom a distance, Kian could feel the icy aura radiating from him, enveloping those around him in a cold chill.
Inside the motel, Kian's people had already obtained the room numberwhere Cora was staying through the motel's owner. However, Cora hadleft half an hour ago and wasn't in her room at the moment.
Worried, Kian asked Ayan, "Mr. Simpson, what should we do now?""We wait upstairs,” Ayan replied coolly before heading towards thestairs.
Kian immediately instructed their team, "Accompany our boss here andwait. Don't reveal yourselves until she returns, then escort herupstairs.”
With that, Kian followed Ayan into the room where Cora was staying. The room was somewhat messy, with several leftover takeout boxesand fruit peels scattered on the floor. There were also some pieces ofclothing haphazardly strewn about for changing.
Ayan had Kian fetch a chair from the adjacent room and sat in aposition where he could directly see the door.
Ayan sat in the room for nearly an hour, during which the roomremained eerily quiet. Kian sat just a few steps away from Ayan andoccasionally stole glances at him. Ayan kept his eyes closed, and fromlast night until now, he had barely gotten any rest. Therefore, Kian evenheld his breath to avoid disturbing him.
Suddenly, a commotion could be heard from outside the room. Ayan'seyes snapped open, and his gaze, as well as Kian's, shifted towardsthe door.
Ayan sat perfectly still, and the dark abyss of his eyes remainedunblinking. As the door opened from the outside, a person wearing aduckbill cap and loose-fitting T-shirt and jeans entered. Before shecould step into the room, she saw the man directly in her line of sight.Their eyes locked, and her body froze. Her blood seemed to stopflowing through her veins. She immediately realized the situation andinstinctively took a step back, attempting to close the door behind her. However, the two bodyguards who had come up with her blocked herpath.
She had no choice but to enter the room, and the door closed behindher.
Cora stood hesitantly by the entrance, unable to move any farther. Hereyes were fixed on Ayan, and her expression was one of panic andanxiety. Her voice quivered as she spoke, "Ayan, why are you here?"Ayan's gaze held a coldness, but there was no trace of anger. Hereplied indifferently, "Why do you think I'm here?"
Cora's face twisted into an awkward expression, and her fear remainedpalpable in her eyes. She said, "Ayan, I've become so pitiful. Can't youlet me go? I won't bother you anymore. If you don't want me to stay inHance, I can leave. I'll never come back, as long as you don't troubleme anymore or lock me up. Can you do that?"
As Cora spoke, she walked further into the room, but she still kept herdistance from Ayan. It seemed like she couldn't look him in the eyes, possibly out of guilt. She pretended to stay composed in front of Ayan, not showing any signs of panic to prevent him from seeing through her.Her reaction, however, appeared crude and unconvincing in Ayan'seyes. He didn't seem to pay her much attention. He spoke withindifference, "You have one chance to tell the truth, only one chance. So, I'll give you five minutes to consider.”
Ayan's words held a veiled threat, but Cora tried to feign ignorance, saying, "Ayan, I don't know what you're talking about. Everything I'vetold you is the truth. I promise you, I understand that you don't believeanything I say anymore. Every word I say probably means nothing toyou. But I still have to say it. Right now, to you, I'm like an ant. I haveno right to oppose you, so what's the point?"
Cora attempted to portray herself as pitiful, hoping to elicit someempathy from Ayan. However, after she finished speaking, Ayan'sexpression remained unchanged. He looked at her with a cold gaze, devoid of any emotion.
He calmly asked, "How much time is left?"
This question was directed at Kian.
Kian promptly replied, “Three minutes.”
As Kian's words came to an end, Cora became increasingly flustered. She exclaimed, "Ayan, everything I said is true. Yes, I did try to escape, but I had no choice. I was forced into this situation. This is not a placefor normal people. Even if I've made mistakes, you can't treat me likethis. What you're doing is illegal.”
Cora's voice grew more intense, her tone rising. Her face reddened dueto her heightened emotions.
However, her words had no impact on Ayan, who remainedunresponsive. He simply stared at her, his expression cold andunforgiving.
It wasn't until Kian said, "Mr. Simpson, the five-minute time limit is up,”that the tension in the room reached its peak.
Upon hearing this, Cora’s anxiety became more evident. She pleaded,"Ayan, please spare me. Consider our many years of relationship. Nowthat even Austin is gone, I have nothing left. Give me a chance!"Ayan's tone remained indifferent as he said, "Are you finished?"
Cora fell silent, but her unease only grew. She stared at Ayan withuncertainty and fear. She was at a loss for words and struggled tomaintain her composure.
Ayan let out a light chuckle, his handsome face radiating a chillingcoldness. He said, "You're really going to great lengths to deal with me,aren't you? Trying to exaggerate things with Preston about Camille andme not being divorced, is that your plan?"
Cora found herself caught in the web of his words, her expressionbetraying a hint of guilt. She avoided direct eye contact with Ayan andher voice trembled, "Ayan, I didn't... How could I possibly contactPreston?"
Ayan's smile remained cold, and his voice was icy as he said, "Ofcourse, you couldn't have contacted Preston. After all, Preston is in noposition to fulfill your demands right now. Your demands are merelyabout money. So, why didn't you contact me directly? Why did youhave to personally call Camille and tell her? Do you believe that I won'tpunish you?"
He questioned her methodically, pushing her to reveal the truth. Corawas left speechless, and her anxiety grew more apparent. She lookedat Ayan, then at Kian, her eyes darting back and forth. Her voicetrembled as she begged, "Ayan, please spare me. I don't know whatyou're talking about. I don't understand. Please, spare me!"
