My Ex-husband Begs Me Back -
Chapter 988: Implication
Chapter 988: Implication
This was something he had just promised Camille, and he intended tokeep his word.
Ayan's attitude was firm, but would such determination have otherconsequences given the current situation?
Kian was somewhat hesitant. "Mr. Simpson, if we don't allow her to hirea lawyer, I'm concerned that if things escalate, Austin will use this as anopportunity to cooperate with Preston.”
"They're just a few struggling people. Even if they want to cooperate, what can they do? They don't have any leverage over me now. If theyhave reasons and motives to collaborate, it's their fate,” Ayan repliedwithout a hint of emotion.
He had many people and matters to guard against, and even OldSimpson was returning to Hance. So, he didn't have the luxury of timeto worry about whether Austin would partner with Preston again.
It would be better to spend the extra time with Timmy and Camille, nurture their relationship, and get back together with Camille as soonas possible.
Kian, of course, couldn't fathom Ayan's thoughts and was worried thatthis decision might lead to unexpected consequences. However, Ayan'sdetermination was unwavering, so Kian had no choice but to hand overthe documents for Ayan to sign.
After briefing Ayan on the work, Kian was about to leave when Ayansuddenly stopped him and asked, "Are you together with Yessica now?"Ayan's inquiry was casual and without much emotion. Kian was takenaback for a moment, then instinctively looked at Ayan's face. Unable todiscern any change, he felt uneasy, and a hint of anxiety flashed in hiseyes as he replied in a low voice, "Mr. Simpson, I..."
He hesitated as if he wanted to explain but couldn't replace the right words,so he hesitated and couldn't make much sense.
Ayan unconsciously furrowed his brow and said lightly, "What are youso nervous about?"
"Mr. Simpson, I'm not nervous. I just don't know how to say it." Kianreplied in a low voice.
Ayan continued, "If you two are together, then that's fine. Are you afraidthat I'll spread the news? Or do you have some concerns? Do you notintend to publicly acknowledge your relationship with Yessica?"
Ayan's consecutive questions left Kian struggling to explain himself. Hehurriedly clarified, "Mr. Simpson, that's not what I meant. I neverthought of it that way. Of course, I hope you and Mrs. Simpson know.I'm just afraid you might think it's not a big deal and a waste of yourtime."
After all, he had been with Ayan for a long time, and he knew Ayan well. These were trivial matters to him and hardly worth mentioning.
Ayan raised an eyebrow, his tone carrying a trace of wry amusement."So, in your mind, am I such an unfeeling person?"
Kian froze, unable to provide a clear answer.
He quickly explained, "Of course not. I never thought of it that way."Seeing Kian's nervousness, Ayan found it amusing. He said lightly, "Noother meaning. There's no need to be nervous. I just wanted to remindyou that since you're together with Yessica, treat her well. Don't takeher for granted just because you're together."
"All right, Mr. Simpson. You can rest assured. I know how to handle it,and I genuinely like Yessica, which is why we're together. If I didn't havefeelings or any connection with her, I wouldn't waste her time."
"That's good."
"Yeah," Kian nodded and hesitated for a few seconds before speakingsoftly, "Mr. Simpson, the reason I could be with Yessica was all thanksto you and Mrs. Simpson's matchmaking, so I don't know if it'sconvenient for you and Mrs. Simpson, but I'd like to invite you both tohave dinner.”
Kian summoned up considerable courage to utter these words. After all,he was just an employee, and inviting his boss to dinner was probablyan unprecedented event. After all, Ayan had a busy schedule andearned more in a minute than he did in a lifetime. Having dinner withhim might seem like a significant waste of time.
But even so, Kian wanted to give it his all. Dreams had to be pursued;who knew, it might just come true?
After Kian's request, Ayan fell into a brief silence, as if genuinelyconsidering it. Then, the next moment, he spoke, "Arrange a time withMrs. Simpson, have her set a date, and then let me know."
Was this an agreement?
Kian was overjoyed and quickly replied, "Of course, I'll contact Mrs.Simpson right away.”
He was afraid that Ayan would change his mind in an instant.
Kian immediately contacted Camille, citing gratitude as the reason.Camille naturally didn't refuse, and they scheduled it for tomorrownight.
Kian promptly booked the best restaurant for the occasion, Silver GladeManor, and even reserved a private room. This time, unlike his usualbusiness outings, there would only be the four of them, and he wouldbe footing the bill. Therefore, he had to choose the most suitableinvitation.
However, the dinner was still a day away, so he planned to discuss itwith Yessica after work that evening.
Thanks to Ayan's insistence, Cora's intentions naturally did not bearfruit.
Cora had been detained by the police for several days, and during thistime, she had no contact with Preston. Preston, however, couldn'tsimply ignore everything that had been happening, especially when hesaw what was developing online. To be honest, he found it quitesatisfying.
After all, anyone who opposed Simpson Group was considered a friendin his book.
So, he decided to put Cora's situation on hold for the time being andtook the initiative to contact Mr. Mikkola, whom he hadn't met in personyet.
After connecting the call, he introduced himself to Mr. Mikkola, whoresponded with extreme coldness and no trace of friendliness. ButPreston didn't mind and remained even more enthusiastic, saying, "Mr.Mikkola, although it hasn't been clear whose idea it is about onlineleakage, I know it must have been yours. Otherwise, no one has suchsophisticated means. Ayan has been doing as he pleases for too long, and now everyone follows his orders and arrangements. It's as if he'streating us as his employees, which is unfair to us.”
Mr. Mikkola had indeed seen what Preston had done. Although thesewere matters involving women, for Mr. Mikkola, a man who couldn'teven handle women's affairs well, it was unlikely he could accomplishanything significant.
So, his attitude towards Preston wasn't particularly favorable, and heeven carried a hint of disdain in his tone as he said, "Mr. Walker, whatdo you mean by these words? If you continue, I'm afraid I'll have toaccuse you of slander. After all, Simpson Group is currentlyinvestigating who is behind these matters. If someone hears what Mr.Walker just said, it will be hard for me to explain.”
Preston couldn't help but let out a silent scoff at Mr. Mikkola's response. While he felt a strong sense of disdain deep within, he maintained afacade of cordiality and replied, "I understand what Mr. Mikkola means.Given our current situation, with just the two of us involved, there's noneed for Mr. Mikkola to be overly cautious."
Mr. Mikkola continued to avoid a direct response to these statements, offering only a vague reply, "Mr. Walker, you may not know it, but whenI saw those things online, I genuinely felt afraid. I don't want to becomea tool for someone else's manipulation.”
Preston maintained his smile and remarked, "Mr. Mikkola, if I'm notmistaken, your ambitions must go beyond obtaining control of theModest Temple Hotel's publicity, right?"
Mr. Mikkola remained silent, prompting Preston to press further. "I trulyadmire your aspirations, Mr. Mikkola. However, achieving such grandobjectives may be challenging for a single person. Why not considerpartnering with me?"
Faced with Preston's invitation and insinuation, Mr. Mikkola did not givea direct answer. Instead, he smiled faintly and said, "I don't understandwhat Mr. Walker is saying."
“That's alright. Contact me when Mr. Mikkola understands. I called to letMr. Mikkola know what's on my mind," Preston replied without furtherexplanation and ended the call.
As for whether Mr. Mikkola would consider his words, who could say forsure?
