Michelle

Kit snorts from the other side of the bed. “Why are you hiding under the blanket?”

“Because I’m cold…” No, I’m hiding because my sister cursed me with pimples and I’m embarrassed, but Kit doesn’t have to know about that.

“Right…” he doesn’t sound convinced, just amused and shifts around on top of the bed. “You know, I’ve been wondering about something…”

“Yeah?”

“That guy we met, Elijah, he looked at me intently after hearing my name… do you have any clue why he did that?”

“Oh, yeah,” I say, feeling guilty. “I do know why.” I take a deep breath and explain the situation to Kit. “Elijah is your uncle. He is your dad’s brother.”

Kit gasps. “What? I had no idea! Like… dad has mentioned having a brother that joined your pack, but since he is filled with contempt he hasn’t really told me his brother’s name or anything, or perhaps I was too young to remember?”

Kit really didn’t know? Ouch. It looks like I have some explaining to do. I thought their meeting was super weird, but holy s**t. Kit doesn’t know about Elijah?

Shit…

What should I do?

I can’t keep this away from my mate, and I sigh before winding up telling Kit how Elijah and his dad haven’t talked in years and how Elijah probably wasn’t sure how to approach the situation. Judging from Kit’s silence, he is still reeling from this news.

“So that’s why he stared at me,” Kit mutters, mostly to himself. “Why didn’t he just introduce himself?”

I shrug under the blanket. “Maybe it was too sudden, or maybe he wanted to wait for a better moment.” I pause for a second and then add, “He might tell you tomorrow at breakfast when you meet again.”

Kit hums and I can sense him staring off into the distance as he processes this new information. After what feels like an eternity of silence, he finally speaks up again.

“This changes things,” he murmurs with a hint of excitement in his voice. “I guess maybe I will have to give him a chance. I’ve always wanted to meet my dad’s brother. Our family seems so small since my grandparents are dead. It’s really just me, my sister and our parents… Scott too.”

I smile under the bedsheets, glad that Kit is willing to open his heart to his uncle. I’m sure Elijah will appreciate the gesture since he is secretly missing his family.

“Family is important,” I say and close my eyes against my pillow. “You never know what can come out of it.”

“True…” Kit says and then he moves on top of the bed again. It creaks underneath his weight, and I feel a hand on the outside of the blanket. “Can you take this off? It’s so weird talking to you when you’re hiding underneath a blanket.”

My face burns and I clutch the blanket tighter around me. I don’t want to be seen right now, not before I’ve found a cure to the stupid pimple curse Bella put on me.

“No…” I grumble. “I would like to keep the blanket.”

Kit strokes my arm by stroking the fabric of the blanket. I get goosebumps in response, still loving his touch even if the bed sheet separates us.

Would it be so bad to show myself?

Yes, yes it would.

I stay hidden and Kit sighs in amusement. “You know you don’t need to hide from me, right?”

Oh, I do know, but I’m embarrassed. I don’t want him to laugh at my appearance and call me ugly because of the pimples. What if he is shallow?

“Michelle?”

I g***n and bury my face deeper into the blankets and pillows. He is right: I don’t need to hide from him, but I’m embarrassed. So damn embarrassed!

I hear Kit chuckling softly as he moves up on the bed, his hands searching for mine underneath the blanket. His fingers intertwine with mine and then he gives them a gentle squeeze.

“Hey, it’s okay,” he whispers, his voice soothing like a lullaby. “You can show yourself to me.”

My heart skips a beat at his words and I slowly unbury my face from the bedsheets. With trembling hands, I start to pull away the blanket until I’m finally revealed in front of Kit.

What is he going to think?

My cheeks flush red as Kit stares into my eyes for what feels like an eternity. He smiles fondly at me before cupping my cheek in his hand and leaning in for a k**s.

As our lips press together, all worries about the pimples fade away completely as I feel a warmth washing over me that only comes when being around someone you love deeply. All that matters now is just us, here in this moment together; nothing else matters. Not the curse. Not my sister. Nothing else.

I wrap my arms around his neck and deepen the k**s, feeling a sense of safety like I’ve never felt before. This is where I want to be, with Kit next to me, ensuring everything is okay even when it isn’t.

Eventually, Kit brings his forehead against mine and we stay there for a moment. I look into his glowing yellow eyes and beautiful face. It’s sort of hard to stomach how pretty he is, and I try to avert my eyes. He smiles in return, and uses his finger to tilt my face back to his.

“You’ve been cursed,” he says, his tone gentle and understanding. “I can feel the magic in your system.”

My face burns with embarrassment and shame at being cursed by my own sister. I’m so ashamed of what I look like that I try to avert my gaze again, unable to look Kit in the eye anymore.

“It was Bella… Do I look hideous?” I ask, already knowing the answer to my own question. The pimples weren’t a pretty sight after all.

Kit uses his finger to tilt my chin once more so that our eyes meet again. His hands are warm and comforting as he smiles fondly at me. “No,” he says reassuringly. His breath hits my face and he whispers, “you look beautiful as always.” He leans in to give me another gentle k**s on the lips before pulling away slightly, “Forget about the curse; it doesn’t matter to me.”

He really doesn’t care?

His words bring tears to my eyes and I hug him tightly, feeling overwhelmed by his kindness and understanding. Kit holds me close and whispers loving words into my ear until eventually, our embrace breaks and we laugh together in joyous relief.

“My sister is a b***h,” I say, unable to smile.

“Oh, mine can be problematic too,” he grins. “Siblings, you know. You both love and hate them.”

“True,” I sigh. “I want to carry out my revenge, but that would be petty of me…”

“But think about how fun it would be.”

“You’re not helping!”

“I’m a demon; what do you expect?” Kit snorts, and then his sharp canine teeth come out to play. “I say you should get your revenge.”

“Hmm, I’m unsure how.”

“Was it something in the bag?” Kit gestures at it. “You could use the same curse on Bella and curse her breakfast juice or something. Get even.”

“I will get even with Bella… I just need to figure out how to get rid of my curse first.”

“Easy,” Kit grins. “All you need to do is ask the nice demon beside you to remove it.”

I arch an eyebrow. “Can you remove it?”

“Yes, easy,” a mischievous smile spread over his lips. “But it will cost you.”

“What will it cost me?”

There is no hesitation when he speaks. “Another k**s.”
