Michelle

Even though I’m tucked safely inside the tent, I can still feel the bitter chill of the night air through the fabric. I turn to my side and wrap my arms around my chest. My teeth are chattering from the cold, and my toes are frozen. I’m tired, but the cold keeps me from falling into a peaceful sleep.

With a little sigh, I consider the idea of getting up and trying to replace a way to get warm, like starting a fire. But as I turn around, I feel the heat radiating off of my huge, snoring demon boyfriend.

I pause in response, my eyes adjusting to the darkness as I study his sleeping form. He is spread out on his back, his muscular body taking up most of the space in the tent. With his mouth open and the light snoring, he seems so peaceful and content. I can’t help but feel a little jealous. If only I could replace a way to get warm like him.

Suddenly, an idea pops into my head, and before I can talk myself out of it, I’m crawling across the cold floor of the tent until I reach Kit.

Is this a good idea?

I pause for a second, questioning my decision, but then I just decide to throw caution to the wind.

Kit cares about me, right?

I carefully climb up on his chest, my heart pounding. I shiver a little bit as I settle down, but it’s nothing compared to the chill I felt just moments before.

Kit is so warm.

Smiling, I close my eyes and allow myself to sink into the warmth coming from Kit. I can’t believe I straddled him without asking, but it’s so comforting that it feels worth it.

“You’re the best boyfriend ever…” I murmur as I snuggle closer, relishing in the feeling of his strong arms wrapping around me by instinct. I smile even more, and soon I replace myself drifting off to sleep.

When I wake up the next morning, I’m almost too comfortable to move. I slowly open my eyes and replace myself looking up into Kit’s face. Judging by his amusement, he has been awake for a while, and I blush at his knowing smile.

“Good morning, sleepyhead,” he teases, his voice filled with both affection and colorful amusement.

My face burns brighter. “Morning…”

“Did you sleep well?”

Since I feel pretty darn on the spot and ashamed, I bury my face against his broad chest. I can feel Kit move in response as he chuckles. I g***n at that, embarrassed that Kit found me on top of him in the morning.

My ears burn, and I sigh. “I’m sorry that I… climbed you in the middle of the night…”

“Don’t worry, I don’t mind,” Kit says, his voice soft and reassuring. “You were so cold this morning, I figured the best thing was just to let you continue sleeping on me. It’s not like I mind or can even feel much of your weight.”

I blink at him, my heart warming at his words. “Thank you.”

Kit smiles down at me and leans in to press a gentle k**s to the top of my head. “Anytime,” he says, his breath tickling my skin and nose.

I giggle in response, and he k****s me again and again. Are all demons this sweet, or is it only Kit? My insides tingle when he k****s the side of my face.

“You know, I think I like it when you sleep on me,” he murmurs close to my ear, his voice teasing.

My face grows even hotter. “Really?”

“Yes. It’s nice,” Kit says, his voice gentle. “It’s like I can keep you safe, even when you’re sleeping.”

Oh, this sweet, gentle demon. My heart swells at his words. Kit is way too good for me. I’m lucky to have him, and I feel my whole face c***k up with a smile.

“Thank you,” I beam at him.

“For what?” He seems confused.

“For being you.”

Kit smiles and then leans in to k**s my forehead again. “That is a weird thing to thank me for, but… you’re welcome. I guess?”

I squirm happily in his arms, wrapping my arms around his massive chest before burying my face in his warm skin again. I don’t think I have ever been this happy.

Kit’s arms tighten around me, and I snuggle closer, not wanting to leave the warm, safe comfort of his body. Kit’s arms tighten around me, and I know I made the right decision by coming to him.

He is just so sweet.

“I love you, Kit,” I whisper into his chest

He breathes a laugh. “I love you too, princess.”

“Mhm…”

He strokes my back. “You can go back to sleep if you want. It’s still early, and I don’t want to go back to our realm. Not yet, at least.”

“Same here… I want to stay here… with you… I’m so… tired…” I mumble, my body and my heart feeling warm.

There is a chuckle. “Then sleep.”

“I will.”

I close my eyes, but despite my best effort, I can’t seem to sleep anymore. Instead, I just bask in the feeling of Kit’s body against mine. He feels so strong and protective.

My eyes close, and at first, I experience pleasant dreams, but they quickly turn ugly.

I dream about the human world being attacked by shadow demons. The streets are filled with smoke and ash, and the sky is turning red. There are fallen bodies everywhere, and the atmosphere is heavy with death.

Shivers run up my spine, and I freeze when I catch a person dressed in black standing on a roof. His eyes are pitch black, his teeth sharp and ugly. The smile he wears is cruel, like a predator toying with its food.

I know without asking that this is the person who is summoning all those dangerous demons. This is the enemy I must defeat, but as I continue to look at them, I realize they can see me while I can’t…

I can’t make out their features.

Is this some sort of magic trick?

Somehow I can see their lips curl into an even more feral smile. “Well, well, well, what do we have here? Has the little Alpha come to die? Here, let me give you a taste of what is to come, little Alpha.”

After he has spoken, the shadow demons screech and dive from the skies, and the screams of the dying echo out in a chorus of pain, a symphony of suffering. Plenty of them lunge for me, and I wake up screaming.
