However, it only lasted for one second.
Beacher saw Janet turn around. And the next second, his face immediately turned cold, as if he didn't care.
But obviously, he wasn't good at pretending.
Even though he seemed cold, Janet saw him glancing at her from time to time.
She held back the amusedness and sourness in her heart, stepped forward, and tugged at the corner of his clothes like she did when she was a child. "Beacher, I'm back." Her words instantly made his heart melt.
Beacher snorted, but he couldn't hold back his smile. The dimple at the corner of his mouth made him look like a teenager. "I thought you wouldn't come back again.” Then, he started nagging before Janet could speak.
"You are really cruel. What are you wearing? The latest dress I bought for you will be delivered right away. You can go and have a look in a while. I remember you used to like shiny things, so I have already asked the jewelry store to send you some samples. If you like them, they'll design some patterns for you..."
The man who was usually irritable and arrogant in front of his fans was now very patient with this girlish stuff.
Janet's eyes were moist, and her voice became a little h**rse. "Thank you, Beacher."
Although all her cousins were her uncle's sons, all of them treated her
very well.
In order to marry that man, she had a horrible quarrel with her cousins. But after she returned, she was greeted with endless love and distress.
But the person she had devoted herself to in the past three years only gave her scars and tingling pains.
She spent three years of lonely and indifferent days pretending not to care, but when she returned home, she realized that she was also aggrieved.
Janet suppressed the countless emotions in her heart and said softly, "Beacher, I divorced Nathaniel."
Beacher was taken aback for a moment and then asked angrily, "Did he bully you? Tell me if you have any grievances, and I will definitely teach him a lesson!"
That brat! When they were married, Janet concealed her identity and gave up her best chance to inherit the Longfellow Group. She even refused to study abroad. How could he treat her like that? This was the little princess that he had always protected. How dare he hurt her?
Janet knew what Beacher was thinking when she saw his expression.
She cleared her throat as if she had regained her pampered attitude. "I'm not so easily bullied. I just got tired of watching him, and I want a new one. New is always better. Beacher don't mention this person in front of me again. I'm going to embrace my new life."
Beacher paused, then patted Janet on the head and said happily, "Don't worry. I know many decent men, and I'll pick a dozen for you to choose from!"
However, Janet didn't see the coldness in his eyes.
Nathaniel had hurt his little cousin so severely that she even felt sad when he mentioned it.
He would never let Nathaniel go!
The sky outside the window was clear, but the atmosphere in the office located on the top floor of another skyscraper was cold
as ice.
"Have you checked it out?"
The man was wearing a dark striped suit, which made his perfect figure even more eye-catching. There was no hair on his
smooth forehead, and he seemed rigorous and neat.
However, such a man had an extremely stern expression.
Alfred put the information on the table and answered, "Mr. Webster, this reporter said he only broke the news after receiving an anonymous email. We have also checked the sending address of this anonymous email. It is an abandoned factory with no
one around."
There were no other clues.
Nathaniel put down the pen, his black pupils full of coldness. "Have you checked Janet and that man's whereabouts? The biggest beneficiary is often the most motivated."
That woman loved dirty tricks. But this time, he wouldn't tolerate her again.
Speaking of this, Alfred's expression became a bit weird.
"What? Is there a problem?"
"Actually, after we checked the abandoned factory, we also checked her."
It was already done because Alfred knew Nathaniel would definitely let him investigate Janet.
But the result surprised him very much.
"We searched based on her information when she got married, but we found that there was no such person at all. We couldn't
replace her whereabouts after she left the Civil Affairs Bureau. It seems that she disappeared directly from this city."
Nathaniel's gaze suddenly became sharp. He believed in Alfred's ability, and Alfred was his most capable assistant.
Since he couldn't replace it, it could only mean that this matter was indeed unusual.
Alfred was startled by his eyes and carefully said his guess, "I think she should have gone to the countryside. Although no data is a secret these days, there are still some places in the mountains without networks."
Other than that, there was no other better answer.
Nathaniel nodded. "Continue the investigation."
Then, he rubbed his aching head and asked another question, "How is grandpa?"
"The news was blocked pretty fast, and it's not widely spread. I've talked with the hospital, and they can conceal it for now.
But... not for long."
Old Mr. Webster almost regarded Janet as his granddaughter and liked her very much. If he knew about the divorce, the consequence might be severe.
Nathaniel knew about it as well. He wasn't afraid of the punishment, but he worried about his grandpa's health.
After being treated abroad for so long, he finally recovered a bit. If something happened to him again...
"Janet, you'd better pray that nothing happens to grandpa, or I will make you pay!" He thought.
Nathaniel put the document aside and picked up the next document.
This was a newly developed business plan.
"Is it time to renew the contract of the Longfellow Group's project?"
This project was a five-year contract. It had only been less than two years since the last signing, so why he had to sign again?
Alfred noticed his confusion and told Nathaniel the rumors he had heard recently.
"I heard that the eldest daughter of the Longfellow family has returned, and her methods were extremely tough. As soon as she came back, she directly fired a general manager and stopped a financing project worth millions. She also asked her legal team to check every contract of the company."
This resolute action was not much different from Nathaniel's.
After hearing what Alfred said, Nathaniel's bad mood eased a little, and there was a bit of appreciation in his cold eyes.
She was clever and brave because she could take back the company that had been robbed for ten years within a day. This woman deserved to be his business partner.
When he lowered his head to sign the document, he said in a good mood, "Help me make an appointment with the new president of the Longfellow Group. I want to talk to her about cooperation."
Alfred nodded, turned around, and was about to inform the secretary when he heard Nathaniel add, "By the way, investigate
her as well."
If he wanted to win a business battle, he had to learn about his enemy first.
