My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 338
The next day.
I didn't sleep all night. I had a bad headache, and my head was buzzing.
Irvin was already in the living room. When he saw me wake up, he looked at me indifferently and said, "Let's have breakfast?"
I nodded and looked at the dining table. There was a big breakfast spread laid out on the table, giving the place a warm, homely ambiance.
As we sat across each other, he didn't say a word and only quietly and elegantly ate his breakfast. I couldn't help but notice the dark circles under his eyes. I asked, "Did you not sleep well last night?"
He looked up and answered indifferently, "Have more food!" Then, he put a fried egg on my plate.
I only looked at him, and didn't say much after.
Suddenly, my phone rang, startling the absentminded me for a moment. I saw that Irvin was looking at me, so I glanced at the phone from the corner of my eye. It was Hendrix.
Seeing that I had not moved, he raised his eyebrows and asked, "Are you not going to answer that?"
I picked up the phone but didn't say anything.
I waited for the other person to speak.
"Do you need help to carry your things? I'll go up and help you carry them. I'm at your place." Hendrix's voice was emotionless.
I got up, walked to the window, and opened the curtains. The person downstairs was still dressed in a black suit, standing with his phone pressed against his ear. "No need!" I quickly replied. Then I added, "See you downstairs!"
"Okay, I'll wait for you!" The conversation felt natural, as if we had always spoken like this all this while.
After the call ended, Irvin looked at me with pursed lips. "You haven't finished your breakfast yet."
I looked at him and knew that he was not in a good mood. I paused and said, "Thank you, Irvin."
I didn't know what else to say. The interiors, furniture and everything else in the bedroom had been his doing, so I didn't need to take anything with me.
When I ignored him and went out of the bedroom without saying another word, I felt a hand on my wrist. Suddenly, he pressed on my neck hard.
It all happened so fast that I wasn't able to react. I pushed him away with all my strength, covered my neck with my hands, and said angrily, "Irvin, I thought you would respect me!" He spat back, "Arianna, you think too highly of us humans!"
I stared at him long and hard before saying quietly, "Goodbye!"
This was my own problem. I had no right to reprimand him. All I could do was endure it.
Downstairs.
Hendrix was already waiting for me at the door. When he saw me come out, his sharp eyebrows pulsed slightly, and he stretched out his wide palm to me. "Let's go home!" His words sounded light, like the passing of a gust of wind.
I pursed my lips and ignored his hanging hands in the air. I walked straight to the car.
A sinister voice from Irvin came from behind, "Hendrix, you'd better take good care of her. Otherwise, I won't let her go next time."
I was stunned and looked back, only to see the two men staring angrily into each other's eyes, like a war was about to begin.
I didn't watch them and just got into the car. I only faintly hear Hendrix's words. "There won't be a next time."
When the car started, Hendrix did not speak, and neither did I. I looked at the high-rise buildings flashing outside the window.
I couldn't help thinking about how Jarold City was extraordinarily prosperous.
"What would you like to eat?" Hendrix asked in a soft voice. When he looked at me, his black eyes were darkened, his gaze cold.
I pursed my lips and said blandly, "I'm not hungry!" I had just eaten a short while ago.
Without saying a word, he parked the car at the foot of a breakfast joint and looked at me. "Well, I am!" he said.
After getting out of the car, he went into the store and found a table. He looked at me and asked, "What would you like to have?"
I wasn't hungry at all, so I replied, "Anything's fine!"
I didn't look at him again and instead focused my attention on my cell phone. At this moment, a text message from Aaron came. "We're going to Ucrebury on Wednesday. Would you like to meet the president o Fantasia Company?"
I almost forgot about this. I replied and thought that I could go back to Ucrebury to see lan and Monique while I was there. I hadn't seen them in such a long time. Monique's child must be two- months- old now. My phone was suddenly snatched away. I instantly looked up and saw Hendrix's dark eyes. I frowned. "What's wrong?"
He put my phone somewhere I couldn't reach, looked at me, and said, "Eat your food."
My frown remained on my face. I looked at the food before me and felt the lack of appetite in my stomach. "I just ate. I'm not hungry!"
"It's all right. Eat more!" As he said this, he shoved some food towards me.
I frowned. Though I was a little unhappy, I didn't lose my temper.
After breakfast, I felt that he was in a strange mood. I couldn't figure out why he was angry, so I chose to be silent.
After we arrived at the villa, we got out of the car, and went back to the bedroom. Hendrix suddenly hugged me from the back. His voice was hoarse and low, an attempt to control his anger, as he asked, "Has he touched you?"
Before I could respond, he started showering me with kisses.
