Hendrix was a little angry when he saw that I was quiet. With his eyes unflinching, his gaze was focused on me. "You're willing to wreck yourself for someone who isn't worth it at all. You're really daring, huh." Perhaps he had seen the wounds on my body, as his tone was a little heavy.

I pursed my lips and looked up at him. Feeling a little wronged, I said, "My wounds hurt!"

It really did feel painful. Calvin's force was brutal and he wasn't gentle with me just because I was a woman. I was lucky and fortunate that I did not get strangled to death by him.

He sneered. "Huh! You know what pain is."

Knowing that he was angry, I pursed my lips and said, "I had never expected him to be so ruthless with me. I thought that all of you would be there in just a short while. Who knew that things would turn out in such a way."

He snorted and said, "So are you blaming us for coming late?"

I shook my head and gave him a light smile. "It's good enough that you came."

"Why was Michael in the hotel as well?" Hendrix asked in a serious tone, "I know that you wanted to help Kelsey but why was he there?"

I was also surprised to see Michael in the room. I guessed that Kelsey was the one who lured him there. But he was smart enough to make the right move and attack Calvin at the right time to make people believe that he was actually there to rescue me.

Previously, when I was kidnapped, I had no evidence to prove that it was his doing. If I were to explain what happened just then, I was pretty sure that nobody will believe me either.

"I'm not sure either. Maybe Michael knows Calvin, so he came to the hotel to look for him."

Hendrix's black eyes sank. "Arianna, tell me the truth!"

He cupped my chin. His black eyes looked intense. "You didn't know Michael previously, do you?"

I nodded and asked, "Why do you think that I would know him?"

He then gave a cold laugh. "Michael is the Vice President of Valerie's Asherton. The fact that he appeared out of nowhere in the hotel with you and Calvin is weird enough. He is someone that had been in the business industry long enough to be cunning as h*ll. How do you think it's possible for him to save or protect a stranger. Arianna, do you think that I'm dumb?"

I froze. Michael really had such a special relationship with Valerie.

I looked at Hendrix and said, "If I were to claim that Michael and Calvin were in it together, would you believe me?"

"Did he hurt himself on purpose?" Hendrix asked with a frown.

I nodded. "He's very smart. He did that just before you came in."

"You both knew each other before?" I couldn't help but to frown at his question. I did not want to mention the abduction.

After a pause, I said, "Andrea asked Michael to kidnap me previously."

"When was that?"

"The time when I took over Alford Audit and Advancer Tech."

He frowned and said with great certainty, "Then it couldn't have been Andrea."

"Well, Andrea has a special place in your heart." I gave Hendrix a sweet smile that seemed a little too fake.

He pulled a long face and said, "She had just known Valerie not long ago at that time. It was impossible for her to use someone in Valerie's employ." "Yeah, sure." I didn't defend myself but agreed faintly instead. "Duh, she'll definitely act all innocent and naive. That's her common trick."

He frowned. "Arianna!"

I had assumed that he was here out of concern for me, but now it seemed like he was here to interrogate me.

I was so sleepy that a yawn escaped from my mouth. "Mr. Roberts, it's best if you head back. I'm feeling a little tired."

Hendrix held back his anger and sat still in his chair and looked at me coldly. He had no intention of leaving at all.

A nurse came in to help change the dressing of my wound. She caught Hendrix's deadly stare and got a little intimidated that her hand trembled a little, almost spilling some of the medication. The nurse breathed a sigh of relief when she was done and left in a hurry.

However, the nurse turned back after a few steps and looked at Hendrix timidly. "There's still a wound on Miss Reid's neck. The doctor

had given her some ointment. It should be by the bedside. You can help her with it."
