She was stunned for a moment and replied in surprise, "A secretary? Doesn't Mr. Roberts already have Evan? Plus, I don't think Mr. Roberts has ever hired a female secretary before."

I took a sip of water as my head buzzed. "The company will expand after the New Year, and Evan can't manage everything on his own. After all, you've worked in Roberts Group before, so you know his character. It'll be more convenient for you to work with him!"

She was puzzled. "Miss Reid, you're not busy with your work in the Granger Group now, so you can go back to work over at the Roberts Group. Why aren't you doing so?"

"Indeed, I don't need to worry too much about the Granger Group now, but I won't work in the Roberts Group anymore. I have my own plans. Of course, you can refuse if you don't want to!"

Then, she shook her head. "It's not that. I'm working at the Moore Group now. To put it bluntly, my job there can't even compare to being a receptionist. I feel fortunate to be able to return to the Roberts Group as Mr. Roberts's secretary, but Miss Reid, does this mean that the Moore Family won't need me to..."

"No need!" I've done everything I was supposed to do, and I've received all the punishments that I deserved.

Since a new year has begun, I should start from scratch.

Upon hearing this, she froze for a moment before she handed me the sleeping pills that she had brought over. Then, she paused and pointed out, "Calvin doesn't know much about the relationship between Mr. Saunders and Mr. Roberts. According to what he said, Mr. Saunders had fallen in love with a girl when he was a teenager and she was Mr. Roberts's cousin. I don't know why that girl jumped off a building and committed suicide as this matter happened a long time ago. No one in the Roberts family even mentioned this. Nevertheless, Mr. Saunders probably hasn't let things go, so he's looking to sabotage Mr. Roberts at work."

I couldn't help but frown and asked, "Sabotage?" It had been more than a decade since the romance first started.

Furthermore, Hendrix had a cousin? Wasn't Uncle Trent childless?

What was going on?

Why did everything seem to get more complicated?

Kelsey agreed with my musings. After a pause, she glanced at me and added, "I have been following up on Chloe recently. Except for Mr. Saunders, she doesn't seem to have contacted anyone else. However she went to Jarold City some time ago, but I don't know what exactly did she do there."

"She went to Jarold City during the New Year?"

She nodded. "I think she reached out to the Granger family. Irvin once had an assistant called Eugene."

I muttered my assent. Once Minnie finished preparing my meal. I popped a sleeping pill after eating, and I went straight back to my room right after the medication kicked in.

I didn't wake up until early next morning. It seemed that Minnie had been waiting for me to wake up.

When she heard sounds coming from the bedroom, she hurriedly came upstairs and brought me some food. Setting eyes on me, she commented, "It's good that you are awake. Are you hungry? Mr. Roberts called me on the phone just now and he told me that there will be a delay in his return. He knew that you were asleep, so he asked me to wait for you to wake up and have you eat something."

After a few hours of sleep, I felt energetic. I peered at the sky outside. It was very dark, and the wall clock told me that it was one in the morning.

Since I had just woken up, I didn't have much appetite. I glanced at Minnie and replied, "Minnie, just put the food here and I'll eat it later. It's late, you should go to bed first."

Minnie was getting on in age, so she tired easily. She urged me to eat my food again before going downstairs.

I sat on the bed, wide awake. I couldn't help feeling a little regretful. Since I had slept for such a long time, it was impossible for me to continue sleeping any longer.

It seemed that I was going to have to stay up late again.

Suddenly, the phone rang and it was a call from Hendrix.

I picked up the phone and answered in a softer voice, "I just woke up."

"Alright!" His voice was hoarse, but it sounded particularly pleasing to my ears. "Eat something later, and it doesn't matter if you can't fall asleep. I happen to have nothing to do now, so I wouldn't mind staying up for a chat."

I nodded. "Okay!" "I might have to stay in Mesville for a few more days. You have to eat well at home and don't stay up late. Get lan to bring Anne back home to keep you company.

"Okay!" I agreed.

"Uncle Charles and Aaron might not be in Ucrebury these couple of days, so call Sawyer if you need anything. He'll help you." "Okay!"

After that, Hendrix did not say anything more.

I wasn't much of a conversationalist, so I had a hard time thinking of a topic to talk about after he stopped talking.

After half a minute of silence, I thought for a moment and said, "Please hurry home."

Hendrix was silent fora long while before he spoke in a low voice, "I will!"

I had nothing else to say, so I looked at my phone and got reay to hang up.

Unexpectedly, he beamed over the phone, "Remember to miss me!"
