My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) -
Chapter 582
After a long time, he tore his gaze away from me and walked into the hotel surrounded by many people without uttering a word.
No matter where they went, those who carried light within them would always be the brightest amongst the crowd.
Looking at his upright back, I let out a soft sigh. We were back to being strangers when we met again.
A crowd of people surrounded him, and if it weren't for work, I probably would not have made it through this human barricade. I hurried forward to press the elevator button.
I wasn't attentive towards my footing and was suddenly tripped by another's foot. I quickly lost my balance and fell forward.
Needless to say, my knee was in pain when I knelt on the ground, breaking my fall. The sensation was tingling and numbing, sending a hiss out my lips because of the pain.
This honestly wasn't a big deal. After all, this was such a huge crowd; it shouldn't be a surprise seeing someone trip and fall. However, I did not expect that Hendrix would stop and walk towards me. He pulled me up from the ground without hesitation. After four years, his features grew sharper, gentler. "Are you okay?"
I shook my head and steadied myself. Withdrawing my hand from his palm, I flashed him a small smile and said, "Thank you!" Then, I endured the pain as I walked forward to press on the elevator button.
In the elevator.
Norman said, "Mr. Roberts, this is Arianna Reid. She's in charge of our hotel reception. Miss Reid will also be responsible for arranging your schedule for the next few days. Please feel free to reach out to her if you have any problems."
Hendrix raised his eyes to look at me. His gaze paused for a moment before he said warmly, "Good!"
While speaking, his hands moved slightly in his pocket. It was a small action that was easy to miss, and I wasn't paying attention to it at first, but with my head hanging low as I followed him around, it was impossible not to have noticed it.
After tapping the room card on the door, Norman headed off to tend to his other duties. Evan looked at me and said, "Ar... Miss Reid, regarding the next few days' schedule, you can liaise with Mr. Roberts directly. I'll go get some work done first!"
I pursed my lips. Under normal circumstances, shouldn't I be liaising with Evan? Why did Evan ask me to liaise with Hendrix directly?
After Evan left, Hendrix leaned against the sofa, looking slightly fatigued.
After all, he was here for work. The air hung heavy and silent between us for a moment. I assumed that he was too tired to talk about work now.
Thus, I said, "Mr. Roberts, you just arrived at Hovell and must be tired. How about you catch a breather first? Once you do, I'll liaise with your assistant directly."
After saying that, I turned around to leave.
A low and restrained voice sounded behind me. "Since we already met, why bother hiding?"
I paused for a moment, then looked back at him and replied calmly, "Mr. Roberts, you're reading too much into things. You're our guest after all. Since you are tired, I should let you rest before we talk about work."
His dark eyes poured into me. I kept my cool and gave him a smile. "Mr. Roberts, have a good rest. You can call me anytime during my working hours if you encounter any problems."
With that, I turned around and left. This could not be considered as an escape.
Ever since I left Ucrebury, I knew that there would inevitably be a day when we would meet again. Since this was expected, I was also mentally prepared to face him. Everyone had their own past. This wasn't something to feel too conflicted about.
Back at the office, my knees tingled with pain. I rolled up my pants to take a closer look at the wound. My knees were badly bruised and seemed to be swollen.
"It's rare to see you all elegant and stuff. You even hurt yourself. Stop wearing heels from now on." Norman came in and did not hide his concern for me.
My colleagues from the office also gradually entered one after another. When they saw him handing me the medicine, they seemed to shrug off what they saw. "It's nothing serious," I said while looking at Norman, "I'm fine. Go do your work I"
He pursed his lips, looked at me and then at the gazes of the group of women in the office. Then, he got up and left.
