We spent the rest of the day according to Anne's arrangements. Everything seemed to be calm and peaceful.

It was a little late when we got back home. Anne had fallen asleep leaning against Hendrix. It was normal for her to feel tired after walking for an entire day.

Perhaps it was because I had walked too much, the place where I sprained my ankle started to feel a little painful again.

This was probably a sequela!

After carrying Anne into the bedroom, he came out and saw that I was pouring water. He took the kettle from my hand and poured water into the basin. Then, he squatted down beside the basin to test the temperature of the water with his hand.

Feeling that it was a little hot, he turned around and poured some cold water into it. He untied the shoelaces for me. It was obvious that he wanted to wash my feet.

I was a little resistant, so I raised my hand to stop him. "I can do it myself."

He pursed his lips and looked at me deeply. "Your ankle hasn't completely recovered. After soaking, remember to massage your ankle with sprain ointment."

As he spoke, his slender fingers had already reached into the water. Some people's fates seemed to be preordained.

It seemed that I couldn't escape from him no matter how hard I tried.

As he massaged my ankles, I said, "There should be many things in Jarold City waiting for you to deal with. You have been here for so long. You should go back to have a look."

He looked up at me with deep eyes and asked, "So, you are asking me to leave?"

I shook my head. "It's just a suggestion."

He didn't say anything. He lowered his head and massaged my ankles for me. He was focused and serious.

Thinking back, it had been half a month since he came to Hovell. I knew there were many things in the company waiting for him to deal with. He would often hold remote meetings on his computer and look through documents while he was here. Sometimes he was so busy that he had no time to rest.

But even so, the main operations of Roberts Group was in Jarold City. So, it was not a long term solution for him to come here.

I was used to the simple life in Hovell. I did not want to go back to the hustle and bustle city with him.

Even if he quietly barged in, and seemed to have become an integral part of my life, peace was just an illusion.

He would need to leave if something were to happen.

It was night time and the starry sky was bright. It took me a long while to fall asleep. I thought of Anne's future as well.

I knew better than anyone else that if we stayed in Hovell, I would have a home, but she would not have a bright future. She was a child and she had never seen the outside world. She needed a better environment to learn and enrich herself.

I was reluctant to part with the comfortable life in Hovell, but I could not take away Anne's future because of myself.

It seemed that I had been thinking too much and could not fall asleep.

Laying on the bed, I could not fall asleep for a long time. My head was buzzing.

I simply got up. I went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water and took a sip. The moonlight in the alley was extremely beautiful.

Standing in front of the window, I stared blankly at the scenery outside. This life was too long. It wouldn't be easy to live peacefully.

The next day, Hendrix, who originally did not have any plans to leave, was forced to leave after several phone calls.

"I'll be back once I settle the business in Jarold City." He looked at me with deep and distant eyes. This man seemed to have always been so charming.

I nodded and said, "Take care!"

I did not say goodbye. I just watched him leave.

After the car drove away, I went back into the house. I took out my phone to read the news. The headline of the news was particularly eyecatching.

"Four years ago, a child was killed at Roberts Group's construction site. The case was postponed for three years, and no compensation had been made to the child's family." The headline was extremely conspicuous. It was almost impossible to overlook it.

Four years ago?

A child was killed in an accident?

I seemed to have heard about this news back then. But I did not know how Hendrix handled this

matter.

It had been brought up in the news again. It was obvious that someone was deliberately looking for trouble. Was it Josiah, or the Moore Family?

I did not continue to ponder about it. After all, it had nothing to do with me.

Without Hendrix's presence, Anne and my life seemed to have returned to the peace that we once had.

In the hotel, there seemed to be more rumors about Norman and I. There were even rumors saying that we lived together.

I did not take it to heart because it would only increase my worries. Luckily, I was related to Charles. Most people bore no malice toward me when they saw me.

There were also some people who wanted to fawn with me. But I was not a very approachable person, so no one could get close to me. I was even a little cold sometimes.
