Chapter 295

Madeline just listened to Harriet's words quietly. She didn't quite understand why Harriet went out of her way to warn her,

And Harriet didn't seem hostile at all.

Harriet morted and said. "You're puzzled, aren't you? I'm really upset. Two years ago, when I reached out to him, he still replied to my messages and answered my calls

"Later, he said he was going away to study, and then he completely disappeared. It was only later I realized he just ignored messages from girls

"Im curious about what sort of person could make

e him so

so devoted."

Harriet ate and looked up at Madeline. She continued, "You're really attractive, but do you truly know him? Do you know what his world is like? He's like a bird living in the dark forest. If you keep him caged, he'll eventually lose his vitality. Moreover, when his enemies realize he's no longer fierce but just tamed and come for revenge, can you really protect him?"

Madeline finally understood.

She remained silent for a moment before she said, "I can't protect anyone, not even myself. But I don't want him to be a wild animal or a pet. I hope he can be someone who lives happily, without constantly worrying about his safety"

Harriet looked straight at Madeline and said, "You want him to be happy, but you just don't have the capability to do it Right now, you're just his burden. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but honestly, since you've offended the Williams family, you can't even protect yourself," Harriet let out a sigh, thinking to herself that if it were her, she'd never be a burden to Gavin

But then again, Gavin only cared for Madeline.

Harriet couldn't do anything.

Harriet pulled out a card and said, "I'll wait for you here every morning for the next three months. I'll teach you some self-defense skills-at least so you can send Gavin a warning if you're in trouble. I'm just worried that if you die, it would really upset him." "Why are you doing this?" Madeline asked with a frown.

Harriet sighed and spoke honestly, "In three months, I have to undertake an impossible mission, one that's sure to kill me. Sometimes, we don't have control over our lives. The person I'm supposed to assassinate is absolutely terrifying. It's better that you don't know how dangerous he is. All you need to know is that in three months, I'm as good as dead"

As Harriet spoke, she looked up at the sky with a helpless expression, contemplating how short life was. Facing death, Harriet wanted to write down a hundred things she wished to accomplish, yet realized the couldn't come up with any

Her life was saved by Gavin. Harriet thought that if she could help him even a little before being killed, she would feel satisfied.

The shopkeeper came over with a plate of snacks and asked, "Harriet, you seem worried lately. Is something bothering you? You're still young and have a long way ahead. Don't be so down."

With a wry smile, Harriet pushed the cold dish toward Madeline and said, "Try it. It's delicious! This place is my favorite. For the next three months, I'll train you on your technique and tell you everything there is to know about Gavin. I really hope you'll distance yourself from him, or at least, not burden him"

Madeline looked at Harriet seriously, seeing the sincerity in her eyes. Madeline found herself a bit lost in thought.

Madeline said, "Since you like him, just be kind to him. You don't have to treat me so nicely. I'm just an outsider." Harriet said, "He won't talk to me."

Harriet took Madeline's hand and continued, "Honestly, I have my selfish reasons, too. If 1 die and he knows what I've done for him, maybe, just maybe, bell think of me during those quiet and lonely nights."

Harriet knew she might never replace Madeline's place in Gavin's life.

Harriet had pursued Gavin for a long time, yet she never won his heart. In contrast, Gavin, a top-class fighter who could intimidate anyone, had been like a puppy around Madeline for the past two years. He was willing to stay low and did everything he could to keep her happy. Harriet said. "Don't let him down, or I'll haunt you with tears by your bedside, even if I become a ghost."

Madeline was driven home by Harriet.

She bought some groceries and cooked a meal herself, feeling a bit distracted.

11:15 AM

Chapter 295

If what Harriet said was true, Madeline really didn't understand what she had done to deserve such kindness from those guys who had been supporting her all the time. She felt she wasn't worthy of their devotion

When Gavin got home, he caught the inviting aroma of food and asked, "Bobby, why are you here again? Aren't you tired of embarrassing yourself? You could cook at your own place instead of tempting our Maddie every day!"

Gavin put down his briefcase and saw there were no other shoes by the door.

Peeking into the dining room, Gavin saw only Madeline there.

He immediately broke into a grin and asked, "Madeline, you really cooked all this yourself? Did something good happen today? Tell me about it. Gavin washed his hands and sat across from Madeline, showering her with compliments about the food. Madeline chuckled and served him some food, asking. "You've always taken care of me. I just cooked once, and you're that surprised! Am I usually that lazy!"

Gavin took a bite and said. "You're usually busy with your own things, like your career and studies. So, it's okay if you don't do any housework. You have your own strength."

Thanks for being so nice to me, Gavin, Madeline said with a gentle smile.

After Gavin finished his meal. Madeline finally asked about Harriet.

Gavin was surprised and repeated, "Hamet!"

Gavin attempted to dismiss it with a teasing tone, saying "What do you mean? I don't really remember this, Harriet... Madeline said helplessly, "Gavin, you know what I'm talking about. Gavin said. "Did she contact you? She's a nice person, quite straightforward, and just has a bit of a crush on me. But don't w

worry, I'm not into her."

Then why are you into me, Gavin? You're all so nice to

to me, which is kind of strange, Madeline took a sip of soup and asked in confusion. She believed that someone like her would just blend into the crowd because she was too ordinary. Gavin said, crossing his arms and frowning. "You're really amazing. You're the best and my favorite. No matter what you look like, I'll always like

you

Madeline asked, "Gavin, do you think I could learn the self-defense skills Harriet teaches mess

Gavin laughed and said, "Really? She Teaching you? I'd be surprised if she doesn't end up getting floored by you. That's funny. You used to be incredible. Even ten Harriets wouldn't bother you" Madeline asked. "Seriously? Aren't I just a nobody, only winning because of you guys!"
