Mystey Chapter 125
Chapter 125
Herbert could hardly believe the words were coming out of Trevon’s mouth. In Herbert’s mind, Trevon was the epitome of proper etiquette. Even though they were cousins, and their families–the main and the fourth branch–got along well, Herbert couldn’t just call Trevon coz in the company. He had to address him as Mr. Brady. But here was Trevon, casually uttering sister–in–law instead of leaving it to his secretary. That, coupled with their overly affectionate gestures, was a shock. Herbert had heard rumors about Trevon’s allection for Selina, but that had only been hearsay. Now, witnessing it firsthand. was a total mindblower.
“Yeah. There’s a charity auction this afternoon. Herbert managed to refocus and started briefing about work.
Usually, Trevon never attended such events; even sending Andrew as a representative was considered giving the organizers quite some face. With Selina stepping in as Trevon’s temporary secretary at Insight Group, Andrew had been given a few days off
“That sounds like fun, honey. Why don’t you let me go?” Selina chimed in, her eyes bright with excitement.
“Sweetheart, did you forget that you’re currently working as my personal secretary? Hmm?” Trevon wasn’t pleased at all. He found it unacceptable that Selina was looking for ways to get out when she should be enjoying his company. A part of him wanted to spank her for these unruly thoughts.
“Oh, come on, please, hubby. You know I can’t stay cooped up in the office all the time. It’s not who I am! A field task like this once in a while would be refreshing, don’t you think?” Selina employed her best coquettish tactics, shaking Trevon’s arm like it was a carnival ride, completely oblivious to the discomfort of others around.
Herbert’s mouth twitched uncontrollably. Based on his assessment, any woman who dared to use such a tone with Trevon was either suicidal or ready to be slapped straight to oblivion.
But Selina was different. As her charms gradually whittled away Trevon’s resolve, he leaned in and whispered. Fine, I’ll let you go. But how will you reward me, since it’s an exception to the rule?”
What Trevon actually wanted was to keep Selina close, to and from work together all the time. He was trying to avoid her slinking off like an eel at the first opportunity, sometimes not even showing up for dinner because she was out and about.
“All right, all right, I’ll reward you when I get back. Happy? Selina said with a grand wave of her hand.
Finally, Trevon gave his consent, allowing Herbert to attend the afternoon charity auction with Selina. Herbert felt like a prisoner who had just been liberated, hightailing it out of there. If he had stayed any longer, Herbert was pretty sure he would’ve started to feel creepy–crawlies under his skin, or like he was being force–fed a lovey–dovey overload until he could burst. The scene he’d witnessed earlier would take him an awfully long time to process and get over.
Selina burst out laughing. “Your cousin’s not too bad. He held his own and gave a detailed report without freaking out.”
“Oh, he hasn’t seen anything yet. If you’d kissed me just now, he probably would’ve fled in terror.” Trevon teased.
Selina rolled her eyes, “Geez, Trevon, you’re the worst!”
At three in the afternoon, Selina and Herbert boarded Insight Group’s corporate car en route to a charity auction. Herbert had lost the condescending attitude he had during their first meeting, now resorting to silence as he gazed out the window at the bustling streets. Still, his glances towards Selina were frequent, if fleeting.
Selina chuckled. “If you want to look, just do it openly. Sneaking pecks like that, what kind of man does that make you?”
“I… I wasn’t sneaking any peeks at you, Herbert stammered like a thief caught in the act, his tone betraying him. He pretended to sleep, leaning against the window and ignoring Selina
Selina merely smiled faintly, choosing not to respond.

Chapter 125
The charity auction wasn’t far from the Insight Group headquarters and was scheduled for four o’clock. Having arrived early, Selina and Herbert had plenty of time before taking their seats.
It was then that Herbert seemed to remember something important. “Just don’t go bidding on everything at the auction,” he warned. “The company has given us a budget. We’re just there to make an appearance for Insight Group.”
He was worried that Selina, known for her blunt honesty and now as Trevon’s wife, might impulsively buy up anything that caught her eye.
“A budget? How much?” Selina asked.
6.3 million dollars”
“Fine. If I see something I like. I’ll use my own money. You just worry about your 6.5 million dollars,” Selina said before striding confidently into the venue.
Herbert was fuming–it was all nice talk, but it was still Trevon’s money she’d be spending! He begrudgingly followed her in. knowing well that Trevon would probably let Selina buy a star if she so wished.
Inside, before Selina could even sit down, she heard an exclamation “Selina?”
Of all the people, it just had to be Ashley. Selina thought she had finally gotten some peace and quiet, yet here they were again.
Selina rurned to replace Ashley standing there with Sara. Ashley’s shock was evident when she realized Selina was attending this charity auction.
“Don’t call me that; we’re not close, Selina cut her off sharply.”
Despite having cut ties with the Harvey family, it seemed she couldn’t escape them. It made sense for Sara to bring Ashley to the charity auction but that didn’t mean Selina had to tolerate them. As long as they dared cause trouble, Selina was more than capable of fighting back. It wasn’t about Selina avoiding Harvey; it was about them keeping out of her way.
“Ashley, we’ll talk later, Sara whispered to Ashley, pulling her aside. Sara then addressed Selina, “After the auction, I have things to discuss with you.”
Selina didn’t even look up. “I think there’s nothing to talk about. Wouldn’t it be nice if we went our separate ways?”
“I need to explain. Regardless of our troubles, you are my daughter–you have my blood,” Sara insisted, leaving with Ashley before Selina could reply.
Without waiting for a reply, Sara lefi with Ashley, leaving Selina smirking sardonically. Selina was well past wanting any part of mother. She thought, ‘Do the Harveys really think the world revolved around them? That I will be the fool to wait around, sacrificing my life for them? I will never fall for their sugar–coated bullets ever again!
Observing from a distance, Herbert witnessed the entire exchange. He didn’t approach until Ashley and Sara left. He knew Selina had severed ties with the Harvey family, but not the extent of it. In his eyes, how could a broken Selina be the one to enchant Trevon, to the point of obsession? Sure, there were fewer women better than Selina; she was the world–class designer Angel, the epitome of beauty and grace–undeniably out of a regular man’s league: But this was Trevon. With his status and looks, it wouldn’t be hard to replace someone better than Selina. Despite her talent, Selina brought too much baggage, which didn’t make her an ideal match for Trevon
