Chapter 148

Soon the Harvey family heard the news and rushed back one after another.

Seeing that Quinton and others returned, Asliley immediately approached with tears, saying “Daddy, Mommy, Manuel, please… Please talk to Lloyd. If he continues like this, something really bad might happen.”

“Calm down, Ashley,” Quinton soothed Ashley’s emotions and looked then at Lloyd. He said, “Lloyd, I never interfered with what you did before because I trusted your character and abilities. I knew you wouldn’t do anything that would worry us. But this time, things are too serious. You must give us an explanation.

“Dad, I want to beat Selina fair and square. I underestimated her in the last Ravencrest Mountain Competition. This time, I will show my true abilities. Even though the situation has escalated a bit, it’s okay. As long as I win, everything will be solved,” Lloyd said calmly, without any nervousness.

Manuel couldn’t help but say, “Lloyd, didn’t you say Selina

as strong? Back then, you couldn’t even pull off the five consecutive turns maneuver and the drainage ditch turn she used to close in on you and overtake you.”

How did Lloyd become so confident in just a few days?

“Manuel, I understand what you mean, and I admit that Selina is indeed strong. But to achieve my dream, I have to race her again and defeat her head–on. Otherwise, how can I pursue the title of the world’s strongest racer?” Lloyd replied.

It wasn’t that Lloyd was confident in defeating Selina. He had to do it to prove his life’s

worth.

Ever since Flying Shadow disappeared, Lloyd had been winning race after race in the world racing circle and had started to feel bored. When someone reached the pinnacle of something, it was not the end, but the beginning of not knowing where to go next.

Lloyd was confident that he could defeat Flying Shadow with his current skills, so he wanted to race Flying Shadow again. But Flying Shadow had been missing for so long, it was just a distant hope.

Now, Selina, who had beaten Lloyd, had appeared. Whether or not Lloyd initially underestimated her, she gave him a new goal. If he couldn’t even defeat Selina, then he was nothing special.

The Harvey family fell silent. Lloyd’s reasoning was sound, but the price, he would have to pay was too high. What if Lloyd really lost to Selina?

Ashley rolled her eyes, curled her lips, and sal. “Daddy, Mommy Manuel, don’t blame Lloyd. It’s all my fault. I happened to see Selina at a milkshake shop and thought I’d go over and say hello. I didn’t expect it to cause such a big stir. I really hate myself… As she spoke, Ashley hung her head, tears streaming down her face.

Lloyd comforted her. “Ashley, it has nothing to do with you. Don’t take it to heart. Instead, I think this is a good opportunity. Ever since I lost to Selina at Ravencrest Mountain, I’ve been thinking about racing her again. If I go back to the racing circle in Mumzik with this mindset, I won’t be able to compete as I used to. This is a choice I have to make to surpass myself.”

“But Lloyd…” Sara wanted to say something, but Quinton interrupted. “Ahem, since Lloyd has made his choice and given us a reason, Sara, I think we should let them decide for themselves. They have a long life ahead of them, and having a good mindset is crucial.”

Sara pursed her lips and sighed helplessly, “How could I not understand that? It’s just that, why does it have to be Selina again? Is this some kind of cursed fate?”

Since the Harvey family found Selina, many troubling things have happened to the Harvey family, and almost every incident was related to her.

Was Sara wrong? Maybe she never should have brought Selina, their biological daughter, back. The family would have remained as warm, happy, and peaceful as before, without any turmoil.

“Mom, it has nothing to do with Selina. It’s us who did wrong and failed her,” Manuel said with a self–deprecating smile, surprising everyone. Then he lowered his head and continued, “I’m a little tired, so I’ll go upstairs first. Lloyd, since you have made up your mind, I will support you. I hope you win against Selina in the race.”

After saying that, Manuel ignored everyone’s gazes and went upstairs directly. Ashley was stunned. ‘Sure enough, Manuel has started to care about Selina!‘ she thought.

In fact, she had sensed feeling for a long time. From the way Manuel spoke, she could tell he was beginning to feel guilty towards Selina and started treating her like his own sister. She even had the feeling that Manuel valued Selina more..

Ashley suspected that if she and Selina fell into the water together and called out to Manuel to save them, he might abandon Ashley and save Selina first because of his guilt towards Selina and his admiration for Angle.

Although she thought that way, she still put on a happy face and said, “Manuel has

changed. That’s great. I used to be afraid that he and Selina would become irreconcilable. Daddy, Mommy, this is a good thing.”

Lloyd looked at Ashley with concern and said, “Ashley, you’re so kind. Even though Selina humiliated you…”

Ashley shook her head and said, “It’s okay, Lloyd. I understand that Selina was angry. After all, I didn’t go missing, and I grew up in the warmth and love of the Harvey family. Selina wandered for 21 years and was finally found by the Harvey family. Still, everyone was so cold and misunderstood her. That’s why she takes it out on me. If this makes her feel better, I’m willing to endure it.

Hearing Ashley’s heartfelt words, Quinton couldn’t help but sigh, “Alas! If Selina could be one–tenth as sensible as Ashley, I’d be happy. How could two sisters have such a big difference in personalities?

Sara lowered her gaze and said, “It’s because she wasn’t raised by us. It’s our fault she was lost.”

The root cause still lay with them, even if they didn’t want to admit it. But the fact was that Selina had been lost for 21 years. It was they, as parents, who failed to protect her.

“Alright, Sara, you’ve done enough. It’s Selina who doesn’t know how to be grateful. Don’t blame yourself for everything,” Quinton said.

“That’s right, Mom. Anyway, I must defeat Selina for the sake of my dream!” Lloyd said.

Night fell and Lloyd received a message. It was from Selina.

The venue was in Sokovis, a racetrack dedicated to motor racing. The venue would be cleared of unnecessary personnel, journalists, and media. The race recording would be uploaded online to announce the result.

The time was set for three days later, at 2 p.m., which suited Lloyd perfectly.

[OK!] he replied.
