Chapter 188

Joseph was unaware of how much backlash his actions had brought upon Ashley.

His thoughts were simple Ashley was his biological sister, and since he was the one who had brought her on the show, it was his responsibility to ensure her safety. There was no way he could let anything happen to her.

It wasn’t just the Harvey family that wouldn’t forgive him. Josepli himself wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.

Coincidentally, the Harvey family was also watching “Serenity of Rural Life”

Even Quinton had postponed his work to stay home and watch the live show with Sara and Manuel, keeping an eye on how Ashley and Joseph were performing.

After all, it was Joseph who had brought Ashley onto the show.

Ashley’s dream of entering the entertainment industry was well–known within the Harvey family.

Although the entertainment industry was notorious for its scandals, with the backing of Harvey Group and the protection of Quinton and Joseph, Ashley could still navigate it as a pure and innocent princess, carving out a niche as a popular star with unlimited resources.

This was a straightforward task for Harvey Group.

However, the presence of Selina and Lydia in Serenity of Rural Life” made them anxious. The Harvey family was fully ware of the discord between these two and their family. Even Quinton and Sara, Ashley’s biological parents, had no idea how to handle Selina, especially after the two conflicts that occurred yesterday.

Quinton had considered asking Joseph and Ashley to leave the show. He even called Joseph to suggest it, fearing that Selina’s true identity might be exposed. He was also worried that Joseph and Ashley might be harmed by Selina. He had no desire to see the tragedies that befell Manuel and Lloyd repeat themselves with Joseph and Ashley!

Yet, withdrawing from the show now would not only breach the contract and incur a penalty but also draw unnecessary attention, leading to further digging into the feud between Selina and the Harvey family. Those paparazzi had incredibly sharp instincts, so all they could do was go with the flow and hope that Joseph and Ashley wouldn’t slip up.

“Ashley.” Sara watched her daughter on screen with concern. The live feed was focused on Joseph carrying Ashley, her face pale with pain, sweat pouring down her face. She seemed unaware of the inappropriateness of the situation.

Ashley had always been well–protected under Sara’s care. Any injury, no matter how minor, made Sara’s heart ache. She had already lost one daughter’s affection. She couldn’t bear to lose the love of this daughter she had raised from a young age!

Manuel pressed his lips together, sensing that something was off though he couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was.

It

sn’t until a comment floated across the screen: [What kind of brother carries his grown–up sister in his arms on live

Realization dawned upon Manuel. “Dad, Mom, the way Joseph is carrying Ashley, it’s not appropriate,” he said. Quinton and Sara were startled. “What’s wrong with it?”

Manuel explained, “Ashley is already an adult, and this is a live broadcast. The way Joseph is carrying her in front of so many people…

Manuel’s reminder snapped Quinton and Sara out of their worried state. They, too, began to feel that it was inappropriate.

Quinton said, “Joseph must have been too concerned aboan Ashy to think it through. Seeing how anxious he was, he probably just wanted to get her down the mountain quickly to see a doctor for her foot.”

Sara agreed. “Exactly Joseph has always been level–headed, but when it comes to family getting hurt, he might lose his Сопрове

They reminded him, “Manuel, remember when you and Ashley went to play tennis, and she accidentally sprained her wrist? You were J19 as anxious and carried her straight to the nurse’s office.

Manuel was momentarily taken aback. As he thought back, there had indeed been such an incident. But why did something that seest ko nommal back then now feel a bit awky

No, it was because Manuel realized that if it were Selina now, she would never accept being carried like that. The old Selina, who still cared deeply for the Harvey family, might have allowed it. But the current Selina would scoff at such an embrace. In fact, given her personality, she might even mock them for having some sister complex and for not respecting women.

Everything started changing after Selina revealed her identity as Angel Manuel’s perception had shifted along with it. What seemed normal before now felt wrong.

When Joseph finally delivered Ashley to the village clinic and handed her over to the doctor, Ashley quickly said, “Joseph, you should go help Garrett. I’ll be fine here. I’ll take care of myself and join you once my foot feels a bit better.”

Joseph protested, “But Ashley. I’m worried about leaving you here alone. I should at least stay to see the doctor treat your

injury.

Ashley told him. “No, Joseph. It’s my fault we’ve fallen behind on the task. Now Garrett is doing the work of three people on his own. You should go help him. Otherwise, I’ll feel guilty.”

“Okay, then.” After giving the doctor a few more instructions, Joseph hurried back up the mountain.

He soon ran into Selina and Lydia, who were making their way down.

Noticing Joseph was alone, Lydia raised an eyebrow. Your team is a bit odd, huh? You’re supposed to be three, yet you’re all scattered. One is ahead, gathering herbs, and another is lagging behind. Where’s your precious little princess?”

Joseph was surprised to see their baskets filled with herbs and asked, “Have you finished the task?”

It had only been about two hours since they last met at the traditional medicine store. Could it be that the herbs on this mountain weren’t as depleted as they thought, making them easy to replace?

Selina’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “There’s a difference between humans and immortals. Lydia, let’s go exchange these herbs for materials and finish today’s task early.”

Lydia chimed in, “Yeah, Joseph, you better step up your game. You’re down a team member, so it’s just you and Garrett. Hope you two can make it back in time for lunch.”

“Why do you have to be so mean?” Joseph gritted his teeth and glared at Selina. “And Selina, Ashley sprained her ankle! She didn’t split off on purpose! If you had even a shred of decency, you’d feel guilty!”

After all, Ashley was her biological sister.

Selina seemed to replace this amusing and chuckled lightly: “That’s a bit of a stretch. I can’t take the blame for something I didn’t do. And you expect me to feel guilty? Joseph, you sure know how to twist things.”

Joseph fumed. “Hey!”

Selina replied, “What? Go on, say it. You look so worked up. I’m right here, listening

Joseph was left speechless, caught off guard by Selina’s retort. She knew he wouldn’t dare say that she was the Harvey family’s lost daughter, that she had severed ties with them after a series of incidents and now stood opposed to them. Such a revelation would have a devastating impact on Harvey Group,

“If you want to put on a good show, learn how to be a decent person first. Your acting hasn’t improved much, but you’re getting pretty good at emotional manipulation. Whether Ashley hurt herself or you guys caused it, don’t come to me asking me to feel guilty. Are you out of your mind?” Selina snorted.

“Ah, Selina, Mr. Harvey is just worried about his sister and misspoke in his haste. Don’t be mad at him. Let’s go exchange these herbs and see if we can take on any extra tasks at Cherry Blossom Manor to earn some points and spruce up oЦГ rooms” Lydia said.

“You’re right.” Selina nodded and walked away with Lydia, leaving Joseph behind.

As Selina was about to leave, Joseph snapped out of his daze and grabbed her arm.

Naturally, the cameraman wouldn’t miss such a prime opportunity and immediately zoomed in with the live broadcast

camera
