Chapter 249
Lloyd could only drive the car to the emergency lane. He then placed the emergency triangle, turned on the hazard lights, and called a tow truck. Otherwise, his beloved sports car might turn into scrap metal, never to be repaired. Lloyd dared not take that risk. It was obvious how much Trevon and Selina wanted to win over Lloyd. It was a complete humiliation for Lloyd.
“Not bad, Darling. You got Lloyd to give in at the right time without relying on turning roads. When did you realize there was something wrong with Lloyd’s GTR?” Selina asked.
Trevon answered, “There’s nothing serious with his car, but he didn’t dare to gamble. He’ll drag Frederick down with him if he loses. I sensed something was wrong when I heard noises from the exhaust pipe.”
In the end, Lloyd had been consumed by arrogance. He had thought Selina was the only one who could beat him at racing, so he had not taken Trevon seriously. From the beginning, Trevon had never been bothered by an arrogant man like Lloyd and would usually ignore him. However, since Lloyd was related to Selina, Trevon had to teach him a lesson on Selina’s behalf.
“You’re good! Let’s compete next time. I’m too nervous to face a formidable opponent like you,” Selina suggested.
Trevon was adept at racing knowledge and skills, so Selina felt he deserved to have her give it her all. Otherwise, she would replace no joy in racing after defeating Lloyd and becoming peerless. So, having her husband as a practice partner was a good choice.
Trevon remarked, “Honey, do you really want to embarrass your husband? You’ve crushed a two–time consecutive world champion and won the title of ‘Flying Shadow. What’s the point of making fun of me?”
“That’s not like you, Darling, to admit defeat before you try! In my heart, you’re great! I don’t want to have to look down on you!” Selina insisted.
“Let’s go back first. We’ll stuff your mouth with cupcakes,” Trevon suggested. He never wanted to be too embarrassed in front of his wife, so he tactfully changed the subject, thinking, ‘She’s really something. What a headache!‘
“You’re the best, Darling! Imagine the look on Lloyd’s face right now! This won’t do. I’ll have to tell Lydia. Let’s get together and make fun of that shameless idiot,” Selina said, satisfied.
Meanwhile, after Lloyd and Frederick had the car towed away, they returned home in disgrace. It was already midnight. The lights came on just as they were thinking about sneaking back to their rooms.
They were greeted by Sara, dressed in her pajamas, apparently expecting Lloyd and Frederick. The boys immediately straightened up and grinned. “Mom, why are you still up? Look at the time. Don’t stay up late. Take care of yourself,” Frederick advised.
“How can I sleep if you two are out all night? I’m worried sick,” Sara said with a sigh, then continued, “You went to see Selina, right? What was the result?”
“Mom, we didn’t…” Lloyd replied but interrupted before he could lie.
“You two are my sons. Do you think I don’t know what you’re up to? Lloyd, your GTR is in the shop after an accident on the highway. I heard about that,” Sara said.
Not a word escaped her sons. They almost forgot Sara had started Harvey Group from scratch with Quinton. She had a reputation back then. Time might have faded the public’s memory of her as a legend after she retired as a housewife, but there was still plenty of news about her on the cloud. Speaking of which, Selina must have had Sara’s excellent gene for her talents.
Sara added, “Look at you. I bet your negotiations with Selina went nowhere. Frederick, even you can do nothing? You should be on good terms with Selina. There’s no reason for her to loathe you as well.”
“Mom! Trevon must have brainwashed Selina! Like you said, she has no reason to hate me! Yet, she and Trevon shut me out. Come to think of it, it’s illogical how they got married!” Frederick exclaimed.
“Still, what else can we do? Selina has cut ties with us and is no longer part of the Harvey family registry. We have no way to make her stay. Besides…” Sara paused, her eyes flashing with sadness. The Harvey family owed Selina so much that nothing could make up for it, not even the fact that Sara had given Selina life.
“I don’t care what you all think, Mom. But as Selina’s brother, I will never give up on her! If there is a glimmer of hope, I will bring her home!” Frederick uttered, going upstairs after finishing his speech.
“Frederick!” Lloyd called out.
*Leave him alone. It’s time for one of us to carry the burden. Selina is innocent, and I failed to be a dutiful mother. I didn’t even give her enough of a sense of security and love after I brought her home. All I did was disappoint her and push her away. It was all my fault,” Sara lamented.
Lloyd comforted his mother, “Don’t say that, Mom. Don’t beat yourself up. Besides…”
However, Lloyd felt a change in Sara’s attitude toward Selina. Although he wanted to win Selina back, he had seen Quinton and Sara’s strong intention to dump Selina. Lloyd wondered if something had happened in the family during his absence that had changed Sara’s mind.

Then Sara intervened, saying, “Not a word to Ashley. I’m afraid she’ll imagine things… Ashley and Selina are both my daughters. At first, I only cared about Ashley’s feelings, and not only did Selina not grow up under my care, but she was also from the countryside. I had a prejudice against Selina and slandered her for a thousand things. She was always innocent, and I was the one who went too far.”
Sara mused, ‘If we’re going to resolve it, I must step up instead of scapegoating my children and suffering Selina’s wrath. It’s all my fault. I was the one who refused to trust Selina in the first place, causing our misunderstanding to snowball into a tragedy!‘
“Mom… Are you going to talk to Selina?” Lloyd asked. He knew the meaning behind Sara’s words. Lloyd knew how Sara felt, and Sara could read her sons. He had no idea what could turn the tables, but Sara had changed, becoming a mother who could not let go of her daughter and was desperate to fix her mistakes for Selina.
Either way, it would be a tough situation for Sara. She might as well keep things as they were after they parted ways.
“I should speak up. As her biological mother, I have to take responsibility for Selina hating the Harvey family to the core…” Sara declared.
“Mom!” A voice sounded.
