Chapter 36

Feeling utterly mortified, Selina woke to the realization that she had completely zonked out–so much so that Trevon had to carry her to bed. where she unwittingly used him as her makeshift pillow.

Selina took a moment to steady herself, then said with sincere gratitude, “Err… Thanks,”

“You’re my wife. It’s cool. Trevon replied.

“But Trevon, you know she tried to say something, but he cut her off, I get it. You’re reminding me our deal is just for a year. But just remember, for that year, you’re my wife in everyone’s eyes, and our agreement is still on your mind, yeah?”

Biting her lip, she nodded. “Of course

Goodnight then. A gentle touch brushed her hair aside as Trevon bid her goodnight with a swift exit.

Even after he left, his scent lingered in the air. Curling up, Selina hugged her knees close, her cheek casually resting on them sideways, her gaze still hazy from sleep. I can’t believe I let my guard down like that. Am I starting to trust Trevon to not hurt me? No, this kind of habit is dangerous. I can’t let it happen again she reminded herself inside.

Trevon swirled a glass of red wine in his hand as he stood by the floortoceiling windows in his study. The moonlight streamned in, casting a soft glow on the scene. He took a leisurely sip, savoring the moment.

His hand, the one he’d rested under Selina’s head earlier, had lost its initial numbness. Now, he could only think about the softness of her hair and the faint scent that clung to his fingertips, making him feel antsy and all over the place. “Selina, what am I going to do with you. he muttered, his deep voice tinged with a helpless note

The next morning. Selina sat down for breakfast with Trevon. Their conversation stayed light, avoiding deep subjects. The atmosphere was different from yesterday–she felt it immediately. Perhaps it was because she had fallen asleep next to him and he’d carried her to bed, or maybe it was the mortifying moment she inadvertently used him as a pillow. Whatever it was, she knew it would take a little bit to shake the awkwardness that hung over her.

Right then, Trevon’s phone vibrated. He shot a quick look at the caller ID. His expression tensed up before he picked up and said, “Hey, Dad.”

Selina’s fork froze in mid–air for a second, but she quickly went back to eating, pretending not to notice anything was off

“Yeah, I got it. Did Nora tell you about it? Well, I was thinking about bringing her by soon, but you guys have been swamped, haven’t you? Alright, catch you later.” Trevon ended the call and said to Selina, “My dad and stepmom want to meet you. He wants us to come over for dinner tonight”

Selina dabbed at her mouth with a napkin and replied coolly. “Sure

Trevon shot Devin a look that spoke volumes, and Devin caught on quickly. He sidled up and murmured something in Trevon’s ear.

Once they finished eating. Trevon whispered to Selina, “I’ll be back at four to pick you up, okay? See you then”

Okay,” Selina said. Trevon reached into his pocket and brought out a sleek black card, placing it before her. “I got this last night, hoping to give you a surprise, he explained. “But you got swept away by Nord After everything that went down, it’s only now I get the chance to give it to you.”

“Actually, Selina started to say something, but Trevon gently cut her off with a Shh. It was like he could read her mind. “As my wife, you’re totally entitled to use my money, he insisted.

“Alright, thanks.” Selina was beginning to see the charm of being with a wealthy man. Having someone who could casually say “spend as you wish had its appeal, and it was clear why not just women, but anyone, would be drawn to that,

Trevon’s smile widened. “Go ahead and enjoy it,” he said. “I’ll be disappointed if you don’t use it all.”

After Trevon headed out, Selina’s phone started buzzing. It was Lydia, itching for some mall-time, In their chat, Selina mentioned her dinner plans to meet with Trevon’s parents that evening. After agreeing on a time, Selina quickly wrapped up the call, hopped into her car, and sped off to meet Lydia at the mall.

They had planned to meet up at Galaxy Mall in Sokovis. Lydia was already there, sipping on a vanilla milkshake, scanning the crowd for Selina. When she spotted her, she waved her over. “Hey, Selina, over here!”

“Sorry for the wait, Lydia. Traffic was a beast, Selina apologized.

“Seriously! You! Caught in traffic? Kinda like “No matter how good you are, a little snag can still get you, right?” Lydia said with a smirk as they started navigating through the bustling stores.

“Look, Selins, your closet’s crying out for some cool outfits. Your marriage to Trevon is just on paper, but to everyone else, you’re the real deal. You can’t show up to meet his folks in those duds. Let’s get you decked out properly” Lydia suggested.

“Alright. Oh, and anything you want today, it’s on me. Trevon hooked me up with this black card and told me to go wild with it. So go ahead and

grab whatever catches your eye: Selina flashed the black card Trevon gave her at Lydia.

Lydia’s eyes popped. “No way, Trevon gave you that We’re seriously set for a shopping spreel That guy’s a billionaire. He probably earns more during a coffee break than what we spend shopping for a whole day! When che can we live it up on a mogul’s dime like this? Game on!”

They zipped into high–end shops, scooping up all sons of fancy stuff. When they hit the Cartier store, something in the display stopped Lydia dead in her tracks “Check out this stunner, Selina!” At her words, Selina peered at the necklace spotlighted in the special display. It had a chain pieced together with gold chunks and an emerald that sparkled like crazy under the lights. Something about it rang a bell for Selina.

“You’ve got an eye for the good stuff, the saleswoman said with a smile. This is a one–of–a–kind piece, a collab between the famous designer Angel and Cartier. It’s the only piece you’ll replace in all of Galaxy Mall

Nice, this designer really knows her stuff, and the style’s cool. This necklace is way better than the rest. Let’s see..

15 million dollars.. I say we go for it. What do you think. Selina?” Lydia was clearly digging it, her eyes locked on the necklace. But before Selina could even respond, they heard a sour voice cut in. “Selina?!”

Selina was speechless, caught off guard by the last people she expected to bump into. She turned around, and sure enough, it was Madelyn and Lauren, the very two she had humiliated earlier back at the villa.

The moment Lauren caught sight of Selina, her well–preserved face twisted with annoyance. “What are you doing here, Selina? Got your eye on that necklace by Angel and Cartier?”

“Lauren, what I’m doing is really none of your business, right? No need to sweat it. It’s not like it’s your money I’m spending. Selina was done bring the kind of girl who’d just say yes to keep the peace, the one who’d hide who she really was. Seeing Lauren clearly looking for trouble, Selina wasn’t about to roll out the welcome mat, even though Lauren was Trevon’s aunt–in–law. With Trevon backing her and no rules in the agreement being broken, Selina felt bold enough to stand her ground.
