Chapter 17

We went for two more rounds before finally falling asleep, it’s like we were so hungry for each other that we couldn’t keep our hands to ourselves. I have just woken up to pee and I flinch a little because I am sore on my privates. Because it has been a while since I got intimate with anyone it felt like a first. I wipe myself when done and quickly take a cold bath. When done Joshua is still sleeping so I quickly get in my clothes and go to the kitchen to look for something to eat because I am starving. I am just about to enter the kitchen when I hear a knock at the door. I try to look in the direction of Joshua’s bedroom to see if he will come out but he doesn’t. when the person knocks again I walk to the door.

‘Good afternoon.’ The lady I replace outside says

‘Good afternoon.’

‘Is Joshua around?’

‘He is sleeping.’

‘Oh I see.’

‘Did you want something?’

‘I can pass through another time.’

‘Oh, but can I take a message?’

‘Just tell him that I will call him.’

‘Are you Sheena?’ I blurt out

‘He told you about me?’

‘That you are helping his mother with something yes.’

She smiles.

‘Tell him I will send him a quotation later.’

‘Alright.’

She has just driven off when Joshua walks to the door where I am still standing.

‘Sheena was here.’

He breathes out deeply.

‘Did she say what she wanted?’

‘Nothing except she will send you a quotation later.’

‘I see.’

‘Babe I know you already told me that she is an ex and all, but seeing her come here.’

I pause.

‘Is there something you are not telling me Joshua?’

‘She is an ex and there is nothing between us.’

‘An ex that comes to your house an unannounced?’

He sighs deeply and he has this look on his face like I am bothering him. I hate it when he wears it.

‘Babe believe me there is nothing between us. I have told you everything there is to know between Sheena and I, she is an ex who decided to mess around with my brother and aside from that it’s just the work that she is doing for my mother away from that there is nothing.’

I look at him and he looks like he is telling the truth but I can’t shake off the feeling that maybe they still have something going on.

‘Nandy, you need to learn to trust me. I wouldn’t drag you into this relationship if I still had something going on with Sheena.’

‘I believe you.’ I tell him even though I know I am trying so hard to believe those words myself.

He moves close, so close I can feel his breath on my skin then kisses me.

‘I love you.’

‘I love you.’ I respond

We move to the living room and there isn’t a word that is said again between us, the silence is so loud I just want the ground to swallow me.

‘What would you like to eat?’

‘Anything that can be cooked babe.’

‘Alright let me get started with lunch.’

His phone starts to ring and from the caller ID I can tell that it’s his mother. He excuses himself and goes to the kitchen to pick up the phone, I pick bits and pieces of the conversation. They sound like they are having a heated argument and I know it’s wrong for me to eavesdrop so I open my phone and check for messages. Instead I go to Instagram to view Jackie’s profile, they are so many photos of her and Ems I am guessing it’s official the two of them are dating. I put the phone away when Joshua walks back in the room.

‘Emmanuel is coming home.’ He announces and I can tell that he doesn’t look happy

‘Oh, okay.’

‘Something happened he got injured so he has to come back.’

‘That doesn’t sound nice, I hope he is not badly injured.’

‘I just spoke to him, he is not even injured. He used that as a scape goat to come home.’

‘Oh okay.’

‘He has never stuck at anything in his life, he makes sure to ruin whatever good thing he has.’

My mind takes me to Jackie, I can’t deny that she looks happy on the photos she is posting I hope this is not going to hurt her. She is one person who would rather use her body to be with a man but I also know it takes a lot for her to be committed this is why I am worried.

‘You look worried.’

‘I am worried about Jackie.’

‘Your friend doesn’t seem like an upright person but you should be worried.’

‘Thanks.’ I say

He walks back to the kitchen. My phone vibrates and it’s a message request on facebook. I frown knowing very well who it is from.

‘I am coming home.’ It reads

I don’t accept the request, I just read and delete the message. Ems might not be as bad as Joshua portrays him to be, he might even be worse because what business does he have being with my best friend and being all up in my business?

‘Babe!’ I call out

‘Yes babe?’ he responds walking to the living room

‘Tell your brother to stay the hell away from me.’

‘He contacted you again?’

‘Yes he did.’

‘Let me deal with him when he is home.’

‘Sure.’

He walks back to the kitchen but stops just at the door.

‘Babe.’

‘Yes babe.’

‘I love what we have.’

‘I love you and what we have.’

He smiles and walks back to the kitchen
