Chapter 5

“The official reason for divorce shall be that Aubrey Jacomb got caught cheating on Randell Cohen, and also that she is infertile.”

Aubrey read the final line of the divorce agreement and boiled in rage. Her face turned a deep red color.

It was fine that Randell wanted to divorce her so that he could be with his first love. The Cohens had agreed to compensate her for her loss, after all, and Aubrey wasn’t so deeply in love with Randell that the divorce was like the end of the world for her. It would be better if they divorced amicably and didn’t blow things out of proportion.

However, when she read this final requirement in the agreement, Aubrey felt that the Cohens’ humiliation and blatant shamelessness were out of hand.

Everyone in Aceville City knew that Randell had married Aubrey out of gratitude. Jeremy had sacrificed his life to save Grant, and the Cohens owed the Jacombs a huge favor. Now that Randell and Aubrey were getting divorced, everyone was definitely going to ask them why.

Of course, the Cohens would never want to admit that the divorce happened because Randell couldn’t forget about his first love and wanted to marry her after cheating on Aubrey during his marriage to her. They also wouldn’t want people to know that they had basically forced Aubrey into the divorce.

However, if they told everyone that Aubrey was the one who cheated on Randell first and that she wasn’t fertile enough to give them a baby, they could justify the divorce and people wouldn’t blame the Cohens for being ungrateful bastards anymore.

Randell was the one who cheated first, yet, Aubrey was to bear the brunt of the entire situation. The Cohens were cunning and calculative. And this was all because they took Aubrey as a weakling with no parents or anyone else to rely on for support.

“Randell, how dare you accuse me of cheating? Do you even have proof? I was the one who got cheated on!” Aubrey questioned Randell angrily.

Randell just took out his phone and sent a few photos to Aubrey on WhatsApp.

Aubrey tapped on the photos and widened her eyes in disbelief. The photos showed her hugging, kissing, and rolling in the sheets with a man she found somewhat familiar.

If she wasn’t mistaken, the man in the photos was the eldest son of the Miller family, Daxton Miller. The Miller family was also the richest and most powerful family in Aceville City.

Daxton was 30 years old. He was a handsome young man, but he had a terrible playboy reputation. He loved playing with women, and there had even been word that he often changed his girlfriends like he changed clothes.

He was also known for never saying no to any woman who threw themselves at him. That was the main reason why he was known as Aceville City’s biggest playboy.

He didn’t hold any jobs and often came and went as he pleased. Many people in the elite circle often looked down on him.

There had been word that his father, Francis Miller, wasn’t appointing him as the next successor of the family, but his younger brother, Clayton Miller.

Since Daxton had such a terrible reputation, people would replace it believable that Aubrey had indeed gotten involved with him. Nobody would suspect a thing.

It made sense to think that Aubrey couldn’t handle her loneliness anymore and went out to have some fun with other men. And since Daxton never said no to anyone, naturally, the pieces all fit together. This was the perfect excuse for a cover-up.

On top of that, Aubrey and Daxton had indeed met beforehand. Once, Amara brought Aubrey to an event, but nobody paid any attention to Aubrey because they weren’t interested in her. With nobody talking to her at the event, Aubrey drifted over to the buffet table and took two huge plates of food before going to a secluded corner to eat.

She had been surprised to see that Daxton was hiding in the same corner as she was, also happily stuffing his face with food. They had then moved on to a corner table afterward, and that was how they met each other.

“I did nothing of the sort! These are all deep fakes! You faked these photos!” Aubrey retaliated.

She had only shared the same table with Daxton that one time. They never saw each other again after that. How could there be anything going on between her and Daxton? Daxton probably wouldn’t even remember who she was!

“Randell, how dare you edit these photos and accuse me of cheating on you with Mr. Miller! Aren’t you afraid of him getting his revenge on you?”

“I don’t care whether these photos are real or fake. At any rate, these photos are enough to prove that you cheated on me, and that’s that.”

Randell spoke to her in a singsong voice. He had spent a long time trying to replace the perfect person to accuse Aubrey of cheating on him with, and he was very pleased with his final selection of Daxton Miller.

After all, it was Daxton’s own fault for having a terrible playboy reputation. Besides, the Millers weren’t particularly fond of Daxton, especially the older generation of that family.

Even if Aubrey cheating on him with Daxton was fake, Daxton would most probably just laugh it off and treat it as a joke. He would never care about things like these. And since the Miller family didn’t really like him, they wouldn’t come after Randell either.

What’s more, the Miller family was the richest and most powerful family in Aceville City, which meant Daxton was still a person of power despite everyone’s dislike toward him. He was obviously a lot higher in power and status than Randell was.

In other words, it would make perfect sense that Aubrey abandoned Randell to throw herself at Daxton.
