Chapter 13 Begging for Another Chance

Natalie remained seated on the bench with Owen, who was still gravely worried.

The doctor took off his surgical mask and calmly explained, “The operation is a success. The patient is currently awake, and her condition is stable.

‘As for whether there is any damage to her brain, we will need some time to observe her. If there aren’t issues with her, we’ll arrange for her discharge.”

The good news finally brought everyone some peace.

“Thank you so much!” Henry thanked the doctor sincerely.

“You may visit her in her room.” The doctor nodded at everyone before leaving.

Owen finally let out a long sigh of relief. “Thank god… I don’t know what I would’ve done-”

Natalie quickly interrupted his depressed remarks, “Grandpa, everything is fine! Let’s go see Grandma right away.”

“Alright.”

On their way to Moira’s ward, Owen began to speak about his regrets. “Did your know that I actually wronged Moira in the past, Natalie?”

Natalie frowned slightly in confusion.

Didn’t Owen shower Moira with love and care all his life? How was it possible for him to have ever wronged her?

Owen smiled bitterly and continued, “I never cherished her presence when we were young. I’d taken so many things for granted back then.

“It was already late by the time I realized that our time together was slipping

If I could do it all over again… I would like to give her a better life.”

away.

Owen might be telling his story in an impassive tone, but Natalie still found herself moved by his words greatly.

She truly envied the unitional love Owen and Moira had for each other.

Natalie believed that Henry must have also heard Owen’s words.

She glanced at him, but she couldn’t tell what his emotions were like after listening to Owen’s story.

If only Henry had just one–tenth of the love Owen had for Moira… Then Natalie

They stayed by Moira’s bedside for a while before Owen dismissed them.

As the couple left, Owen specifically called out to Henry. “Make sure Natalie gets home safely.”

The moment they walked out of the hospital’s entrance, Natalie said, “Henry.”

Henry slowly turned around and spoke up with a cold tone, “Are you still thinking about getting a divorce?”

He might strangle her on the spot if she still had the gall to bring it up at a time like this.

Natalie shook her head. “That’s not it. I just wanted to tell you that I can go home by myself.”

She wasn’t so vile as to mention divorce at a time like this.

She understood that Moira would need some time to recover.

Discussion about their divorce would only negatively affect Moira’s recovery.

Henry turned away from Natalie and replied, “I’m not giving you any chances to complain about my actions to Grandpa.”

“I’m not going to make a fuss over such a trivial matter.” Natalie frowned in

response.

Did Henry seriously think of her as a petty woman this whole time?

“Enough! Just get in the car!” Henry impatiently glanced at her.

Natalie decided to say nothing more about it.

She got into the car and gave the address of her current residence to the driver.

Upon arriving at the security gate at Tranquil Heights, Natalie got out of the car without saying goodbye to Henry.

She figured that there was no need for friendly farewells if he hated her so much.

To her surprise, Henry followed suit by getting out of the car as well.

Natalie gave him a puzzled look, as if asking for his intention.

Henry then explained, “Grandpa had asked me to take you home safely, remember? So hurry up and lead the way already.”

Natalie thought he was just being thorough with his given task so as to prevent her from replaceing any faults.

She refused to believe that he was being genuinely concerned for her safety.

Natalie withdrew her gaze and walked ahead.

The couple each walked at their own pace as they remained silent throughout.

Soon, they arrived at the house. Natalie pulled out her key, opened the door, and said, “You have completed Grandpa’s request, so you can go-”

Henry stepped into the house before she could even finish.

That stunned Natalie. “Henry, what are you doing?”

Henry scanned the place before demanding, “I’m hungry. Make me something to

eat.”

Natalie laughed. “You can eat in one of the restaurants nearby, Henry. I don’t have the time to serve you.”

“You’d better do as I say or I’ll be staying here tonight.” Henry had already made himself comfortable on the couch.

He was displeased with how Natalie kept urging him to leave.

Hence, he decided to do the opposite and stayed around just to mess with her.

For some reason, Henry was slightly happy when he watched Natalie erupt with

anger.

That led to him wondering if he was actually sick in the head.

Natalie’s expression became twisted from immense fury.

What the hell did Henry take her for? A pet dog?

Did he seriously think she’d serve him on hand and foot?

Really, did Henry expect Natalie to revolve her life around him? Did he think she would have to serve his every need and heed his every call?

But Natalie didn’t vent her frustrations right away. She already thought up a solution, so she headed into the kitchen.

Henry remained on the couch as he stared at her figure in the kitchen.

Perhaps… he truly had gone insane. After all, he actually enjoyed watching Natalie busying herself in the kitchen. It gave off a feeling of coziness and

comfort.

After a while, Natalie came out with a plate of pasta.

Henry quickly stood up and walked to the dining table to enjoy his meal.

But Natalie never placed the plate on the dining table. Instead, she immediately emptied the plate into the trash can.

Henry was shocked as he glared at her, wondering what she was doing.

“Remember when you said that everything I make belongs in the trash can? Well, if you’d like to indulge in what I made, feel free to replace it where it belongs,” Natalie stated sarcastically.

She had cooked for him countless times and called him to remind him that there was dinner at home, only for the meals to remain in the kitchen until the

ver next day.

She had tried sending the meals she cooked to his office once. He always dumped the food away right in front of her.

He considered everything she made as garbage that belonged to the trash can.

Perhaps Henry was simply throwing away a single meal.

But to Natalie, what she had lost was her feelings of affection.

Henry’s face was red from anger. “Stop fucking around, Natalie! I’ve given you chances time and time again, and yet you never appreciate them!”

“I don’t need such great opportunities to lick your boots again.” Natalie didn’t even want to look Henry in the eye any longer.

She continued, “Mr. Chase, if you’re not going to enjoy your meal, please don’t overstay your welcome.”

The veins on Henry’s clenched fists began to pop and crackle.

His unruly and cold demeanor seemed ever more frigid. “Natalie Shepherd, you’ll definitely come crawling to me and begging for another chance!”

He then turned to leave furiously.

But before he could walk out of the door, he was stopped by a ringtone blaring through the house.
