Chapter 89

Josie’s POV

“So, this is it?”

I glue my eyes to the screen. I

re angry

y at the nonchalant look he gives me.

Like I don’t know what the heck I’m saying.

Deciding to act unaffected, 1 strut to the seat and start arranging my books,

Josic, c’mon. This was an induction picture” He fires, dropping the phone on the table.

Lines of frustration get on his face. I still don’t understand what he’s getting frustrated about.

“I never asked for an explanation, did 1’1 surer.

You’re angry about it. I can feel it. Hell, my lycan can.”

I roll my eyes even though my heart and wolf have every intention of disgracing me.

I don’t want to appear feeble before Ashton I can’t.

“That picture was what we took five years ago. When I inducted my newest staff. Nothing else…”

I swallow thickly. I hate to admit this but hearing that the picture isn’t new makes relief wash over me.

It’s like a ton of brick has been lifted from my shoulders.

“I still don’t care. Ashton. Not in the least” I manage.

Slinging my bag over my shoulder to leave, Ashton fastens his pudgy, firm hand around my right arm.

“Do not walk away from me!”

I freeze at the use of that alpha aura. I don’t understand the heightened flutter of excitement I feel in my belly as a result of

his words.

Why? Why do I love my vulnerability before him?

He slinks close to me.

“I’d never have anything to do with her“.

His throat bobs as he swallows, I get lost in the effect

“This it’s not necessary. I don’t need to know them. I manage.

“I want you to know them. Just as I want to know every curve of your body…”

I don’t understand where he’s heading but feeling his fingers skating my face, mapping out each layer of my skin..I close my eyes and bask in it.

“I want to know everything I can about you. He presses on.

I shake my head, sadly.

“It’s..it’s…”

“It’s it’s. I stutter, the words too heavy to leave my lips.

“Talk to me, Josie. Just let me hear them. Allow me the opportunity to get to that In–depth part of you. Ones I can’t see with

mere eyes.

Tears rim my eyes…the tragedy I once faced years back. The pains of watching the man I love. The man I’ve bonded with rejected me before others.

It clenches my heart all over again,

I thought I’d grown past it but I know better.

Ilutter my eyes open, peering into the depth of his gray ones.

“It’s too late to know these, Ashton. You lost that opportunity so many years ago. You can never get it back.” I mutter, the words roaming the air between us,

At that moment when Ashton’s thrown off guard at my words, I clench away from him with a heavy heart.

As if recollecting himself. Aston mutters while I’m about to swing the door open.

“I know, Josie. I lost that opportunity years ago. But I won’t stop trying to get it back

He says with implacable determination in his eyes, I nearly fall on my knees.

Unbidden, I flutter the door open and prance into the hallway, running as discreetly as I can.

Blood Ashton’s blood.

My screams for him to wake up.

The dark throne room.

The tower

That’s all I see. All I breathe in as I make my way outside the hospital.

I hail a cab and jump inside a cab.

The need to escape that dream or whatever it is hard…so hard.

Stopping before my house, I alight but instead of going into the embrace of my apartment, I hurry to the nearby woods.

I need to let my wolf out. Maybe then this weight I feel will lessen.

I keep my bag and clothes in the emergency station and transform them into my wolf form.

In record time, I pound my paws down the woods, my fur shaking at the feel of the air hugging it.

My wolf giggles. Then. “It feels good to be out.”

I agree with her words and power down the thick forest.

I need clarity on what I saw about Ashton

Could that have been a daydream? I wonder, marching through the cluster of trees, grimes, and stumps.

The force of it, the ripple of power that saw through me tells me that isn’t just a dream.

It’s more but I don’t know what it is.

Lost in thought, I pause along a tree, sniffing the imposing scent that suddenly fills the woods.

I’m not alone! My wolf reveal.

Even though I’m not in human form now, I become alert as fear shoots through me.

“We have to go back!” I whisper to my wolf.

Knowing Lady, my wolf, she’s stubborn and would want to see to end of whatever is coming.

She stands, limbs poised, as she watches her surroundings, ignoring my panic.

“Let’s

at Die.

get back. Lady!” 1 scream again when I feel the presence getting closer. She doesn’t give me any response only sneering

Huffing a resigned breath, I monitor what she’ll do next.

My wolf leaps up quickly into the air and smashes into the lycan sniffing us.

The lycan growls, tumbling shamefully on the floor.

My wolf takes this personally as she lunges at the lycan as he’s still lying on the ground, wanting to get to his feet, opening her snout, she bites into the Lycan’s shoulder.

A roar filled with pain rang through the air. My wolf pulls back, prowling around the lycan lying on the ground.

This is literally the first time I’ve seen my wolf fight. I never knew she was this strong.

As she prowls around in a circle, watching the lycan, her eyes flash.

I can feel the rage pouring from her, and I don’t know why.

My wolf doesn’t hate lycans. But why is she taking this personally?

My thoughts seep into the wind when the lycan smashes my wolf into a nearby tree, taking us off guard.

“Ahhh… “I hoot at the intensity of the pain. My wolf purrs in pain too, struggling to stand on her feet but that’s impossible

now.

On a whim, the lycan appears before us again, shifting back into his human form.

That’s when I knew why my wolf was angry.

The Lycan is Mr. Warren. The man that cursed me, wanting to rape me at every chance he gets.

My wolf is right and she still stares at Mr. Warren with hate–filled eyes.

Mr. Warren chuckles, blood marring his white front teeth.

“That hurt like a bitch, yeah” He moves closer and my wolf continues struggling to stand up. “I never knew you’re this strong, believe me.

1 monitor every step he takes towards us, panting, and angry.

“I always thought you’d be weak forever. It’s because of your vulnerability that I want to have my way with you. I love vulnerable women..” He prattles on, his feet crunching the dried leaves on the ground.

“That’s why I can’t stop wanting you.”

Before he moves into our space, my wolf growls, spittle escaping her snout.

“Ohhh that shows you’re getting fiercer. However, it doesn’t exempt the truth that I’ll love sleeping with you, making you vulnerable.”

Standing before us now, he murmurs. ” you have been my greatest fantasy, Josie Ward. And I’m about to claim what I’ve wanted.”

Mr. Warrem barks a laugh, nearing me. The instant I feel his hand on my fur, pushing me backward, I shit back into human form, vulnerable as he had wanted.

And naked.

But at that same moment, that powerful dream comes back with a force that trips me off.

I stand looking weak and in tears before a crowd of lycans shouting…

“Kill her. Kill her.”

The ordinary wolf killed one of us, lynch her.”

Tears blur my vision but I manage to see through the faces. The angry faces of lycanwolves make me scared.

An elder who looks like a judge steps forward. At the wave of his hand, everywhere grows quiet.

He says some words I can’t hear but the happiness on everyone’s faces tells me…

The judgment has been passed. A death judgment.

Enforcers step forward and arrest my arms, pulling me to the guillotine.

I pant, pulling out of that thought. I still replace myself struggling with Mr. Warren as confusion fills me.

Again! Another daydream?

But why am I always in the daydream? I think to myself, and in that absentminded state, I kick Mr. Warren in his groin.

As the main cries out in pain, I surge to my feet and begin running, rushing out of the woods.

By the time I make it back to the emergency clothes station, it’s already getting dark. I replace my way back to my house.

However, I pause when I see a mailman standing on my porch.

“Hello?” I hum.

1 hum

Turning, the man smiles and comes down to stand before me.

“Hi, you’re Ms. Rose, right?” He asks and I nod uncertainly.

i

“Then. This is for you.” He says, handing me a large brown envelope. What’s this for? I wonder taking it from him.
