Once Upon A Rejection -
Part 2 Chapter 5
Grayson Ward’s POV
Molly was sleeping so heavily that she was drooling. In the night she had spun around and now she was facing me. She had one arm around my waist and her other resting under her head. She looked so cute that I wanted to k**s her but I also didn’t want to wake her. She needed her rest after last night.
Talen and his arm around her waist, I could hear him stirring as he started to wake up. He leaned over and very gently kissed Molly on the cheek before removing her arm from her waist and starting to shuffle out of bed.
“What are you doing?” I whispered.
I spoke as quietly as I could because I didn’t want to wake Molly but I probably didn’t need to worry. She was sleeping so heavily that I am not sure she would have woken even if I shouted at her.
Talen shook his head and continued to shuffle out of bed. When he got out of bed he put on his clothes and started walking towards the door. I removed Molly’s arm from my waist and followed him, quickly putting on my clothes as I moved towards the door.
“Where are you going?” I asked once we were both standing outside our room.
“I need to leave. I have a long journey ahead of me today,” He replied then he started walking down the hallway towards the stairs.
“I know but you can’t leave without saying bye to Molly.” I said, taking hold of his arm to stop him. He turned around and looked at me, I could see the unshed tears in his eyes.
“I can’t bear it. It is hard enough leaving her but if I have to look her in the eyes and say goodbye then I know that I won’t be able to leave.” He said.
That made perfect sense, I couldn’t do it either. It wouldn’t matter how important my business was, I couldn’t force myself to be away from her for even a few hours.
“Just come back as soon as you can,” I said.
I watched as Talen walked down the hallway. I waited until he was out of sight before turning around and heading back to our room. Molly was still asleep when I got back so I got back into bed next to her and wrapped my arm around her. I held her for a for minutes before I fell back into a comfortable sleep.
When I opened my eyes again Molly was already awake. She was sitting upright and looking around the room, probably trying to replace Talen. I could see the tears in her eyes and I felt my heart breaking for her a little bit. I shouldn’t have fallen asleep, I shouldn’t have let her replace out he was gone like that. I pulled her into my arms.
“He left but he will come back as soon as he can,” I said as I tried to comfort her.
“He didn’t even say goodbye,” She said between sobs.
I didn’t know how to respond so I just held her close and stroked her hair. It took her a few minutes but eventually she calmed down enough to stop crying.
I told her everything he said to me as he was trying to sneak away. Although she was still upset I could tell that she understood why he did it. I managed to persuade her to get showered and dressed with the promise of coffee and pancakes.
I have never known her to get ready so quickly. A few minutes later she was standing in front of me with her hair still damp from the shower.
“Maybe we could spend the day watching films with June and Ezra?” I suggested as we made our way down to the kitchen.
“As nice as that sounds I think your mom would kill us if we didn’t help her plan for our alpha and luna ceremony,” She replied.
My mom had been really stressed about the ceremony recently. The council members arriving had been a massive distraction and it had set her back quite a bit. I know that she would really appreciate the help but I was sure she would understand me wanting to cheer Molly up today.
“I think I can persuade her to let us have at least part of the day off,” I replied.
Molly laughed, it was such a beautiful sound. I would say or do anything it took to make her do that more often, even if it meant making a complete fool out of myself.
“As long as you are the one who tells her that,” Molly said, she was smiling at me. I wrapped my arm around her shoulders and smiled at her as we walked into the kitchen together.
“Finally,” Said a voice from inside the kitchen.
I didn’t recognise the owner of the voice, they didn’t belong to our pack and yet they were sitting at the kitchen table as though they owned the place.
There were three of them. In the middle there was a man with short brown hair and brown eyes, he was wearing a leather jacket with a white t-shirt underneath. I could tell that he was an alpha by his aura but I couldn’t tell which pack he was from, I didn’t recognise him as any of the alphas I had met before.
Beside him were two women. Both of them had long blonde hair and brown eyes. They were dressed as though they were going to a party with fancy dresses and full makeup. Some people might replace them pretty but to me they just looked like they were trying to imitate a doll.
I opened a mindlink with my dad. I could tell straight away that I had woken him up. It was still early morning on a sunday, most of the pack was probably still asleep. That must be how they managed to get in here without anyone noticing.
‘Dad, we have intruders in the kitchen,’ I told him.
‘I will be right down,’ He replied, all traces of sleepiness gone from his voice.
“You know the security in your pack is a complete joke. I was able to walk right in here without anyone stopping me. No wonder the woman with the red hair attacked you,” The male intruder said, sending a cold chill down my spine.
I could tell that the two women were werewolves but there was something different about the man. Maybe he was a lycan. Either way I didn’t like him knowing so much about our defences or the attack that we suffered the other night. I hoped that my dad would hurry up and get here before this turned into anything more dangerous.
“I was following for most of yesterday and nobody even noticed,” The male intruder continued.
“Who are you and what are you doing here?” I asked our intruders, trying to keep my voice level.
“Is that any way to speak to your own family?” He asked.
“What?” Molly asked.
She sounded even more surprised than I felt. She tried to walk towards our intruders but I held her back and put myself between her and our intruders. I don’t care how strong she is, there was no way I was going to let her put herself in danger.
“My name is Finn Jenkins. I am the new alpha of the Jenkins pack and Molly is my half sister,” He said.
“That doesn’t tell me what you are doing here,” My dad said as he walked up behind me.
A smile crossed Finn’s face. Just like all the other alphas that I had come across he was cocky. Even though he had walked onto our packs land without permission he knew we wouldn’t risk war by attacking or imprisoning him. I would love to do both just to wipe that smirk off his face.
“I thought we could work together to solve our lycan issues. I came to invite you to a meeting next weekend at my pack. All the other hybrids will be there and together we will replace a way to solve this problem,” He said.
The cynical part of me worried that it was some kind of trap. They were planning to get off the hybrids in one room together. If the lycans wanted to get rid of all hybrids then all they would have to do is attack them while they were all together.
I didn’t trust him. I had heard of the Jenkin’s pack but we had never had much to do with them. Their pack was based in Texas, they were so far away that we never had any dealings with them. It seemed odd that he would travel so far for a conversation that could have been held over the phone.
“Why didn’t you just call to invite us?” I asked.
He scowled at me for a second before shifting his gaze to Molly and smiling.
“I wanted to get to know my half sister,” He replied.
He seemed sincere but that didn’t mean that I trusted him. There were, however, some benefits to keeping him around for a short while. It gave me the chance to check up on him and maybe even work out what his true intentions were.
“I will have a room prepared for you, how long are you planning to stay?” I asked.
“Just for a couple of days,” He replied.
“Ok, let’s start by having breakfast together,” Molly said. She sounded so excited that I didn’t want to share my concerns with her so I turned to my father instead.
‘Can you check up on his story, something doesn’t seem right about this,’ I told him over mindlink.
