Chapter 25

Stella’s eyes practically shone with glee.

Joseph continued, “Brian’s clearly trying to win this for you. Still, it’s less of a try and more of a will. Brian’s memory is close to perfect and he’s patient. Frankly, we don’t really like playing cards with him.”

So, that’s how it was.

Stella glanced at Brian, who was sitting next to her. She couldn’t help but replace his side profile alluring.

Stella suddenly realized that it was nice having someone in her corner.

She loved living a life like this. However, she understood she couldn’t fall for this temptation. Jessica was pregnant. Therefore, she had to guard her heart from any heartache.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Brian asked lightly.

Stella returned to her senses, looking at him dazedly. “Yes? Did you say something?

“My phone’s by the couch. Get it for me, will you?” Brian spoke.

“Sure.” Stella obediently obeyed his orders. She had just taken his phone when she saw several missed calls on his screen. Those calls were all from Jessica.

The happy gleam in Stella’s eyes immediately dimmed.

Just then, the room to the private door swung open, allowing Jessica to saunter in,

Since Stella was near the door, she happened to bump into Jessica straightaway.

Jessica curled her lips into a slight smile, seemingly over the awkward meeting this morning. She nodded lightly in greeting and said, “Stella, you’re here as well?

Whatever sweet joy Stella felt promptly turned bitter.

Jessica held her hand and said gently. “Stella, I’m sorry I lost my composure this morning. I thought about it and honestly, you didn’t do anything wrong.

“You’re legally married to Brian while I got myself pregnant. Even if he’s interested, he wouldn’t dare to touch me. So, I’m afraid you’ll have to grit your teeth and bear his passions

Stella couldn’t help but look at Jessica as though she was an allen from outer space

Jessica–merely continued to smile away. “Do you think I’m being too benevolent? Actually, this is nothing. With Brian’s position, there are plenty of women flocking around him. If I were to get jealous over every single bird that catches his eye. I might as well throw myself off a cliff and be done with it.‘

“So, I’ve thought things through. As long as his heart is still mine, I won’t mind if he’s just fooling around. At this rate, Stella was wondering whether she had landed in some parallel universe.

Regardless, it seemed that men tended to prefer women like Jessica. Even though they had plenty of

mistresses warming their beds, Jessica would be able to look away from it and continue treating them

tenderly.

Sadly, Stella wasn’t born for a life of enduring such nonsense. So, she would guard her heart and never

allow it to fall for someone who was out of her league.

She licked her lips and said, “Ms. Xenos, you’re far too kind.”

“Pish posh, dear. It’s nothing. I’m still in my first trimester. I don’t mind if you want to share a bed with Brian. You know how men are. They have needs.” Jessica was clearly implying that Stella was nothing but

Brian’s sex toy.

Stella couldn’t say anything in return. Even if she wanted to defend her dignity, she was utterly tongue–tied.

To make matters worse, Jessica was still smiling. She had never seen the woman lose that aggravating

yet gentle smile on her face.

Hence, Stella wouldn’t feel any satisfaction of getting the upper hand over their verbal spars.

Suddenly, she felt weary down to her very bones.

“Stella, is this Brian’s phone? I’ll take it to him.” Jessica caught sight of the black phone in Stella’s hand and wasted no time snatching it from her grip before handing it to Brian.

“Here, Brian,” Jessica chimed coquettishly as she sashayed toward Brian.

Brian raised his head and furrowed his brows when he saw her. “Why are you here?”

“Bernard invited me. He said you were here. I called you earlier and couldn’t get through. It looks like you/ guys were sneaking behind my back, huh?” Jessica pouted prettily as she made herself comfortable in Stella’s spot.

Everyone knew Jessica. So, they all took turns greeting her.

It was more than obvious that the atmosphere had changed once she appeared. Each and every one of them was a close friend of hers. Therefore, they were more casual with their words.

Stella closed her eyes wearily.

She lowered her head as she dragged her feet to Brian’s spot. “Brian, I’m leaving.”

She didn’t want to stay here a second longer.

So, she spun on her heel and pushed the door open after saying that.

Brian’s frown deepened as he chased after her.

“Brian! Jessica called out from behind him.
