Chapter 31

Brian furrowed his brows as watched her closely. She looked genuinely worried. However, he felt discomfited by her expression as he said dispassionately, “The baby’s fine.”

“That’s good.” Stella relaxed and continued enjoying her meal.

Brian wasn’t sure whether she was simply putting on a show. So, he would occasionally sneak a peek at her.

Once Stella was done with her meal, she said, “I’m off to work. You said the Porsche is my graduation present. Is that still true now?”

Yolvencrest Estate was a villa with a gorgeous mountain view. Therefore, it was built upon a hill. It would be troublesome to go about her business without a car

Brian glanced at her as she stood before him.

She looked obedient, youthful, and as adorable as ever

She looked just like the woman she was in the past.

Brian thought to himself, “She’s probably given up on the divorce. She probably got tired and decided to live and let live.“.

So, he said agreeably, “That car is yours.”

Stella nodded with a smile. Before she left, she said, Then, I’ll be off. Oh, right. You should buy Jessica flowers when you visit her. Women love flowers. Plus, it’ll make her feel better.”

Then, she left the dining room.

Brian, who was having his breakfast, felt himself freeze. He instinctively looked up at her. Alas, she was already long gone. It looked like she was in a good mood and wasn’t saying those words sarcastically.

Yet, his heart felt out of sorts. It felt as though someone was tightening their grip on it, making him feel

frustrated.

Meanwhile, Stella spent the whole day drawing in her studio.

Yelena approached her with a phone in hand and a huge scowl on her face. “Shellie, look at this! The scumbag couple are making headlines again!”

Stella spared the phone a glance and noticed it was a picture of Brian sending Jessica to the hospital.

She merely chuckled and said, “Who cares about them?”

She would do anything in her power to get them together. That way, she would finally be free of that

hellhole.

“Have you completely given up?” Yelena looked at her with concern.

Stella continued drawing her sketches as she said blandly, “That’s right. I’m waiting for the divorce to

happen.”

“He agreed to it?”

“Not just yet. Still, I think he’ll come around soon enough.”

Then, Stella thought of something and said to Yelena, “Yelena, I’ll have to continue staying at Yolvencrest Estate for a little while longer. Can you send the luggage I left at your place there?”

Brian would kick up all sorts of fuss if she refused to stay there. So, she might as well bum it out there. She would just treat it as a place to stay for free.

Hell, she would be saving a ton since she wouldn’t be paying rent!

“You’re still going to stay with him? Stellie, do you have a fever or something?”

“Oh, don’t worry. I’m not treating him as my husband. I’m just taking my father’s lesson to heart. I’ll treat him as some stranger I have to live with. Once the dust settles, I’m sure we’ll get a divorce.”

“Are you planning something big?”

“I suppose you can say that.” Stella curled her lips into a smile. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’ve finally seen the light. I won’t be a lovesick fool any longer.”

Yelena felt her heart settle upon hearing Stella’s words. “Once you regain your freedom, I’ll take you out to celebrate.”

“Still, it’s funny that I’m going to doom myself to my marital vows when you get to kick back and relax. God, I hope that my marriage will be fine.”

“Do you love Caleb?” Stella asked her seriously.

“I do!” Yelena’s eyes were practically shining as she said, “He treats me well.”

“There you go, then. Some marriages would be smooth sailing. Of course, they’re the minority. A good and happy marriage is built brick by brick.”

Stella was married for two years. So, she did have some inkling of how a proper married couple should

act.

Yelena nodded and chirped, “I got it!”

“Ms. Shaw, your roses from Mr. Gough are here!” Her assistant walked in with a big bouquet of roses before gently handing it over to Yelena.

Yelena held it with care and took the card nestled between the flowers. When she read it, she grinned and

said to Stella, “Caleb has asked me out on a movie date. I’ll see you around!”

“Oh, my. Have fun!” Stella twirled her pen and watched as Yelena left the studio.

That was what love should be like. There should be flowers, meals, dates, and movies. It shouldn’t be

anything like her experience.

She didn’t receive or experience a single one of those from Brian before marrying him. In the end, they

now despised one another.

Her phone chimed, jolting her out of her thoughts.

Stella swiped her screen and saw that she had received a WhatsApp message from Sharon. It read, ”

Stella. Today at 7:00 pm, Maple Lane’s private room 205. Mr. Perkins.”
