“Understood.”
Tristan decided to let the little rascal tire himself out first. After all, Clifford’s birthday banquet was in full swing at the moment, and it wouldn’t do him good to spoil the fun. Besides, he had plenty of time on his hands.
Meanwhile, Xavier and Yvette arrived at the banquet in succession. Yvette didn’t want to draw the attention of the other Lane family members, so she deliberately waited for a bit before walking in after Xavier. He noticed what she was doing and chose not to say a word.
After that little commotion, Daphne did her best to bribe the reporters present. When she spotted Xavier, she immediately composed herself and walked over.
“The banquet has already started, Xav. Everyone’s here to celebrate Mr. Lane Senior’s birthday. What took you so long? I’ve been waiting for you for a while now.”
Xavier was never one to report what he had done to others. Hence, he responded apathetically, “You don’t have to wait for me then.”
Daphne was at a loss for words. She was indignant. Realization dawned on her when she noticed Yvette walking into the hall after Xavier, and she couldn’t help but clench her fists.
As soon as Xavier arrived, everyone’s attention was drawn to him. Most wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to butter up to the young head of the Lane family. Shannon was especially proud.
Xavier first went to see Clifford. He had a head full of gray hair and walked with a cane, but still had sharp eyes.
Xavier quickly wished him a happy birthday. Daphne also wanted to use this opportunity to make a name for herself in high society. “Grandpa Lane, also brought a birthday gift for you today.”
Clifford didn’t like Daphne. But just like Shannon, he wanted Xavier to settle down as soon as possible. Besides, Daphne’s latest single showed that she had more than just looks, so he accepted her gift.
Daphne gifted him a fine piece of emerald. It wasn’t much in a wealthy household like the Lane. family’s, but since Clifford had accepted it, it meant that she had been acknowledged by the Lane family.
Yvette stood amidst the crowd, listening to the guests‘ murmurs.
“Cinderella has been acknowledged.”
“Mhm. I can’t believe an orphan has become a superstar and is now the future granddaughter–in–law of the Lane family.”
“She didn’t rely on luck alone. Haven’t you heard her new song? It’s really good,”
Yvette listened to them quietly, unfazed, knowing that the surprise she had prepared for Daphne.

Unaware of what was in store for her, Daphne strutted up to Yvette. Her eyes were brimming with pride and arrogance as she listened to people’s compliments.
“Are you seeing this, Yvvy? The world has changed. Now, I’m the one standing next to Xav.
When she heard that, Yvette smiled. “Is that so? I wouldn’t be so full of myself if I were you.”
Daphne thought she was just jealous, but she had no idea that the conversations around them had taken a turn for the worse.
“Check this out! Daphne’s new song ‘A Sliver of Light‘ was actually plagiarized from a foreign composer!”
After one of them saw the news, the others quickly followed suit. Soon, discussions erupted.
“Goodness, this isn’t just plagiarism. It’s a straight–up copy–paste job! Both songs have the same melody. It’s just the lyrics that are different.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. I never would’ve guessed…”
“How could the Lanes accept someone like her as their granddaughter–in–law?”
The increasing chatter caught Clifford’s attention. He called someone over to replace out what was going
- on.
It didn’t take long for him to receive an update. His expression hardened, and he immediately called for Shannon.
“Look at who you invited to the banquet!”
Shannon had also seen the news, and she felt a little embarrassed.
