Lina felt a sense of pride when she saw the dark look on Charlie’s face. Her objective was to humiliate Ashley and let Charlie know that she was only pretending to be pure.

Mike felt his pleasant expression freeze on his face as he stared at the evil couple in front of them. How dared they provoke his dear sister? In general, Mike had always been indifferent toward strangers—it was the first time he had felt utter revulsion toward people he had just met. He replied in a cold, languid voice, “Of course, she’s been living a happy life. Look at your face; you look drawn even with heavy makeup. I guess you’ve been living a hard life.”

Lina’s and Charlie’ faces contorted when they realized what Mike was implying. Ashley couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

From the start, Ashley had every intention of ignoring them. She was not the sort who took any nonsense from others, but her brother’s ruthlessness was on another level. He outright stated that Lina suffered in comparison to his sister and mocked the other woman’s skin condition and her propensity for thickly applied make-up. He didn’t even let Charlie go unscathed.

Mike’s words reassured Ashley. She didn’t want Lina to tell her brother that she used to date Charlie because Mike would surely interrogate her. If he knew what happened, he would lose his temper and teach Charlie a lesson. The less he knew about it, the less trouble it would be for everyone. Without waiting for Lina’s reply, Ashley took her brother’s hand and pulled him away from the couple. “Calm down, Mike. Don’t let them piss you off.”

Ashley rarely acted cute toward him, so Mike’s unhappiness dissipated. However, he didn’t mind leaving a deeper impression on the two if that would keep them from provoking his sister in the future.

Stewing in their own thoughts and their embarrassment, Lina and Charlie watched Ashley and her brother leave.

Ashley and Mike walked out of the women’s wear shopping area and proceeded to the men’s wear section. After selecting and paying for several outfits that they both liked, the siblings soon headed home.

Meanwhile, Yasmin kept encountering adventures on her way home.

She received another call from her mother, who adored talking about her marriage prospects when she was bored. She had a standing order from her parents to go home often, and it was probably so she could take Zachary to meet her parents and have him introduce her to his.

When she told her mother about her successful blind date with Zachary, no words could describe how happy her mother was. In her mother’s excitement, one would think that Yasmin had announced her engagement rather than reported a blind date that went well.

This time, she couldn’t avoid the order. Yasmin had planned to go back by train and meet with Zachary in Ariosa, but Zachary insisted on driving back home. Of course, she would save some money if she didn’t take the train. After thinking about it for a while, she agreed to go with Zachary.

After work, Yasmin went back to her apartment and packed her things. Zachary’s car was waiting for her downstairs. She slid into the passenger’s seat.

Zachary glanced at Yasmin, who was dressed in another simple T-shirt-and-jeans combo and a woman’s sports backpack slung over her shoulders, and marveled at how he hadn’t seen such an innocent look on a woman in a long time.

As for Yasmin, she took note of how Zachary had traded the suit and leather shoes for a simple T-shirt and casual pants. The casual outfit, coupled with his chiseled but oddly soft features and the unconscious smile at the corners of his mouth, made him look like a particularly handsome boy next door.

‘It really is too bad for me that he likes men,’ she lamented inwardly.

Since their last blind date, they had met each other for two more times, with the last meeting being a few days ago. They met at a small gathering so they could get to know each other better.

Zachary knew that Yasmin was the daughter of the mayor of Olkfield. She was currently working in Synder Group, and her mother usually set her up on blind dates.

Yasmin knew that Zachary was the only heir of Estrada Group, as well as the special assistant to the current CEO of Empire Group. Like her, his family often arranged blind dates for him. And he was a homosexual.

Their similar experiences made them feel some kinship toward each other. The agreement between them had made them comrades in arms, after a fashion—they were, after all, on the same boat.

On the way, Zachary and Yasmin chatted for a while. For most of the drive, she looked out of the window at the scenery as Zachary drove. The atmosphere was a little quite, but it was not an awkward silence.

With light road traffic, the drive from Ariosa to Olkfield took four hours.
