Perfect Match: Irresistible Desire For You -
Chapter 332
Suddenly, Rosa burst into laughter. “I can tell you everything now. It was all a prank. I promised to marry you as a prank. All my friends always pitied me and told me no one would ever love me, but then you fell in love with me and asked me to marry you, so I agreed just to show everyone I was attractive after all. You’re such a fool!
It was just a bet I made with my friends, and looking at your pitiful face right now, I can tell that I’ve won.” As she spoke, the bandage under her sleeve turned red, but she didn’t care at all.
Mike, however, was miserable. His white shirt was wrinkled, and his hair was messy from the fight. His eyes were wide open but full of sadness.
Still, even now, he looked handsome, and Rosa couldn’t handle it anymore. After saying all those cruel words, she turned her head and pressed it against Arthur’s broad chest.
The intimate gesture infuriated Mike, but he didn’t know she was actually trying to hide her tears.
‘A bet? Does that mean that all the beautiful memories were fake?
I am a f*****g fool!’
Mike cursed at himself, but after a while, he finally calmed down. When he spoke, his voice was once again calm and cool, just like a pool of stagnant water. “Why did you choose him though?”
Even if it all was indeed a bet, he wanted to know what Arthur had that he himself didn’t.
“I’ve told you already that you’re not my type. I don’t like frail rich men like you. I like men like Arthur, strong and stoic,” Rosa said, still leaning against Arthur’s chest. “I’ve known him since we were children, and when we saw each other again some time ago, I realized we were very suitable for each other. My father likes him as well, so I chose him.
Is that enough detail for you?” she continued, every word more ruthless than the previous one.
Mike was speechless, but slowly, the hatred in his eyes began to condense.
Rosa, however, wasn’t done yet. As if she hadn’t already hurt him enough, she said, “We’re married, and we’ll be together forever, so please don’t disturb us in the future. I admit that I’ve hurt you, so we will leave the city and live abroad.”
Both men seemed to be stunned by what she said, but while one quickly calmed down, the other couldn’t hide the deep pain in his eyes.
‘She’s so disgusted with me that she wants to leave immediately? Am I never going to see her again?’ Mike thought as he stared at the familiar back, clenching his fists.
This time, the silence stretched for a long, long time.
“Let me ask you one last question. Have you ever loved me?” Mike finally broke the silence.
Even though it was such a corny line, it sounded both powerful and sad.
Just from the fact that he was asking so many questions, Rosa knew without doubt that he really cared about her, but she kept silent.
“I want you to look into my eyes and say it,” Mike insisted, his voice deep and firm. This was his last chance, the last straw.
Slowly, Rosa turned around and looked at his bloodshot eyes. Word by word, she said, “No, I have never loved you.”
Rosa’s answer shattered the last glimmer of hope Mike had, and he finally realized what a fool he’d been.
Still, even in those last moments, he was still looking into her eyes, waiting for a flicker of hesitation, a flicker of hope that would send him toward her without a care for his dignity and pride.
However, Rosa’s eyes gave nothing away, unlike the hickeys that could be seen on her neck. It was as if they were outright mocking him.
He couldn’t believe Rosa could have been so cruel.
In the end, his love story was only a farce, but he couldn’t even laugh at it.
His hope was shattered, and with it, his dignity. After looking at Rosa for a few more moments, his fists clenching, he finally turned around and left.
The moment the door slammed shut with a loud bang, Rosa staggered away from Arthur with tears streaming down her face.
She could barely stand anymore. She had used up all her strength in trying to say goodbye to Mike.
As he watched the desperate woman in front of him, Arthur felt a stab at his own heart.
He knew what technique Rosa had used to deceive Mike, who really loved her. It was a trick they learned during their training, and it consisted of keeping your eyes open and holding your breath.
“Rosa…” he started.
Rosa immediately interrupted him and yelled fiercely, “Get out of here! Get out!”
Seeing the great hatred she now had for him, Arthur swallowed the words he was going to say and instead said gently, “Have some rest. I’ll go and organize the military exercise.”
With another glance at the frail and tense look on Rosa’s face, he turned around and left.
In the evening, the solemn mansion was completely dark.
The moon, which was high in the clear sky, illuminated a vigorous old man carrying a small bag. Feeling a little confused, he entered the house.
Soon, he was met by two tall men with serious looks on their faces.
“Dad, you’re back. Be careful,” Rowan said to Marcel who was rushing downstairs angrily.
“Mr. Jimenez,” Arthur greeted the old man politely and respectfully.
Marcel paid him no attention. Instead, he yelled, “Where is Rosa?
You disgraceful son! What did you do to my dear granddaughter? Tell me!” The old man was stern in voice and countenance.
The other two men stood there quietly, and then Rowan asked, “Dad, what are you talking about?”
“You bastard, see for yourself!” Marcel shouted and threw a yellow envelope into Rowan’s face. His eyes filled with pain, he continued, “I knew you would cause trouble as soon as you came back. What did you do to that good child? Why did you force her to leave?”
Confused by his father’s words, Rowan opened the envelope. It was a letter from Rosa to Marcel, the few lines seeming both rigid and soft at the same time.
“Grandpa, I’m leaving. I’m going somewhere far away. I’m sorry for my disobedience.
I will take good care of myself, so please, you take good care of yourself too. I will contact you when I settle down.
Don’t ask me why I left, and don’t go to see Mike. I failed him.
If anyone looks for me, I’ll kill myself. I mean it.
Thank you for being my only family.”
When he finished reading the desperate letter, Rowan looked up, and it seemed as if he had aged several years in an instant.
‘I have lost my daughter forever!’ he thought in shock.
Seeing Rowan’s reaction, Arthur picked up the letter that had fallen on the ground. As he read it, he couldn’t help but feel conflicted himself.
The two men who had forced Rosa to leave stood there in silence as Marcel shouted and cursed, worrying about his beloved granddaughter.
In a place far away, a train rumbled in the dark.
A haggard woman with tear marks on her face pulled out the SIM card from her phone, folded it, and threw it out of the window.
