Perfect Match: Irresistible Desire For You -
Chapter 348
“AH! It hurts…” Ashley’s sudden labor pain made her ruddy face turn pale in an instant. Unable to bear the pain of contractions, she clutched Joseph’s arm so tightly that her hand left a mark.
“Ashley?”
“Ashley!”
Three tall men rushed to her aid at once. It could be seen on their faces how worried they were.
Simone observed her daughter’s expression and anxiously said to Joseph, “That’s a sign of labor. You should take her to the hospital now.”
Thirty seconds later, Ashley felt the pain in her lower abdomen subside. “I’m not in pain anymore.”
At that moment, Joseph gently picked her up and walked towards a room by the east gate on the first floor. “I’ve prepared a delivery room at home. The best equipment and obstetrician are there. I’ll take Ashley in,” he said in a low and anxious voice.
He was worried something would go wrong if Ashley was to go to the hospital at this crucial moment. That was why he decided to prepare a room with all the necessary equipment and personnel at home in advance.
With Ashley in his arms, Joseph went to the delivery room and laid her on the bed. A few moments later, several female doctors came in and examined her.
Once the doctors were finished with the examination, an older doctor reported Ashley’s condition to Joseph, who was by her side. “Sir, Mrs. Marshall is due soon. She just underwent false labor, but it won’t be long before the true labor comes.”
Joseph had studied the process of childbirth. When he heard that Ashley had just had false contractions, he felt relieved. As the babies would be born sometime later, Ashley would still have enough time to prepare herself emotionally.
Joseph nodded to the doctor. Then, he held his wife’s cold hand and comforted her, “Honey, don’t be nervous.”
“Okay.” Ashley, who was lying on the soft bed, nodded in agreement. She then turned to her family, who was gathered around the bed, and reassured them. “Grandpa, Dad, Mom, Mike, don’t worry about me. I’m not in pain now. Rest assured, I won’t give birth yet.”
Her words brought relief to everyone. But, as they looked at her pale face, they still could not help but be a little worried about her.
“It looks like the babies will be born today,” Simone noted while looking at Ashley’s baby bump.
Everyone waited in the delivery room for a long time, but Ashley did not have another contraction. Her pale face a while ago now had a healthy glow.
The obstetrician advised her to take a walk in the sunny courtyard with her family and have a normal lunch with them afterwards.
As an expectant father, Joseph was anxious about what would happen to his wife.
Afraid that she would have a contraction unexpectedly, Ashley went back to the makeshift delivery room after her walk and lunch. Fortunately, nothing happened. Everyone, except Joseph and Ashley, left the room to take a rest or walk outside so that the two could have some alone time together.
In the quiet ward, Ashley stroked her big tummy and gazed at her husband, who was staring at her. “Honey, don’t be scared, okay? Look at me. I’m not worried at all.”
According to Yasmin, it was futile to be anxious when confinement was fast approaching. What she had said was true. In fact, Ashley did not feel that anxious. Perhaps it was because her family was by her side. She knew that they were more nervous than her, but they still put on a smile to cheer her up.
“I’m just worried you’ll be in so much pain.” Joseph, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, raised his hand and caressed his wife’s pretty face.
He was aware that she would endure extreme pain during labor. He could not hide the pity in his eyes as he thought of this.
Without waiting for Ashley’s words of comfort, he continued in a low and deep voice, “Thank you, Ashley.”
‘Thank you for giving birth to our babies. Thank you for letting me have a complete family. Most importantly, thank you for your love…’
His eyes were full of affection when he spoke. Ashley stretched out her hand and smoothened the wrinkles on his forehead. “You don’t have to thank me. Why are you being sentimental right now? It’s unlike you to be like this,” she joked.
While Ashley’s delicate and warm hand was touching the crease of his eyebrows, Joseph cocked his head to one side and gently put his face close to her belly. For a moment, he listened to the movement of his unborn child, and an inexplicable happiness washed over him.
“The babies kicked harder the instant you came closer,” Ashley said with a smile.
“The babies must be telling me that they’re going to be born soon,” Joseph replied with his ears on her belly.
“It was the doctor who told you that, not the babies,” Ashley retorted. Now, the previously quiet atmosphere had become lively.
“No. The babies also told me that.” As an expectant father, Joseph had already developed a deep affection for his soon-to-be-born child. But, he could not help but be stubborn when he imagined that he would meet his son or daughter later.
The two talked for a while until Ashley fell asleep. It seemed that she had to save some strength for the labor later. Everything was going well.
Her family and several doctors came to visit Ashley several times to check in on her and left with relief when they saw she was safe and sound. Joseph, however, never left her side and just kept an eye on his wife who was sleeping peacefully.
Ashley woke up in the afternoon and felt more energized than ever. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Joseph on the edge of the bed, fast asleep.
She was deeply moved by how loving and caring her husband was to her all the time.
The weather was freezing. Fortunately, the room was equipped with heating. Nevertheless, Ashley could not help but feel sorry for Joseph as he was only wearing a dark sweater. But instead of waking him up, she quietly gazed at his perfect face for a while.
Joseph must have sensed her intense gaze that he stirred. When he woke up, he saw Ashley looking at him intently with her bright, black eyes.
He immediately straightened his back and asked with concern, “How long have you woken up? Do you want to eat something?”
Ashley shook her head. “I just woke up, and I’m not hungry.”
While the two were talking with each other, Simone came in a few minutes later, a pork porridge in her hand. She walked to the bedside and asked, “Are you awake now? Here. Have some to replenish your strength.”
“Mom.” Ashley raised her head and said to her mother, “I’m not hungry yet.”
“Even if you’re not hungry yet, you should still have some. You’ll give birth tonight. It’ll be exhausting,” Simone insisted. She then picked up the spoon, scooped a spoonful of porridge, and fed Ashley.
Ashley opened her mouth and ate what her mother fed her. She then raised her hand and asked, “Mom, let me do it.”
Truth be told, she felt embarrassed. She was about to be a mother soon, but she was still being spoon-fed by her mother.
Simon could not help but chuckle when she noticed her daughter’s embarrassment. “You silly girl, don’t be shy. This is the last time that I’ll be able to care for you. Once you give birth, I’ll focus on taking care of my grandson. You won’t have this kind of treatment anymore.”
Ashley looked up at Simone’s aged yet beautiful face and figured that her mother was just concerned about her. Touched, she nodded her head slightly in response.
In all honesty, she was in bliss knowing that she had a harmonious family and faithful husband on this special day of her life.
The night fell just a few moments after the meal, and the cold winter air shrouded the Marshall family’s mansion. However, the lively atmosphere of New Year’s Eve in the house was interrupted as Ashley’s abdomen started contracting.
