Perfect Match: Irresistible Desire For You -
Chapter 426
Later, Darrel and Darlene learned that the shy, gloomy boy had taken the step to approach Brandi. Darrel did some deep investigation and found out his background. He came from a bitter family that had a grudge against Joseph and Ashley. Fortunately, the boy quit annoying Brandi and left quietly. Then he had thought the matter was settled.
To his surprise, that boy had once again resurfaced into Brandi’s life. What was worse, he had turned into a handsome man. Darrel knew he wasn’t here just for a friendship. He definitely had an ulterior motive.
It turned out Darrel had always cared about Brandi. But by the time he realized his love, it was too late.
And now, oozing with jealousy, Darrel chose to ignore Brendan. But Brendan wouldn’t let it go so easily. With an intention to annoy Darrel, he said, “I have been with Brandi all these years. She told me you are a brother to her.
In spite of this, I worry a lot. Brandi is so popular among the opposite s*x and men are always swarming around her.” Brendan glanced at the man sitting opposite him, trying to gauge his reaction. His words were intended to provoke him. He went on, “But you’re not one of them.”
“Humph…” Darrel snorted, looking askance at Brendan. His fair and handsome face was taut with distaste.
“Some people become furious only when they lose what they once had,” Brendan said in a low voice, trying to instill rage in his enemy. His eyes were fixated upon Darrel. “You are one of those people,” he finished.
“Looks like you really know me,” Darrel said and there was a touch of sarcasm in his voice.
When Brendan was about to retort back, Brandi came out bearing pillowcases, a bed sheet and a duvet cover. The atmosphere was taut with hostility and Brandi looked at the men dubiously. “What were you two talking about just now?”
“Nothing much. I was talking about business with Darrel.” Brendan walked up quickly and added with a smile, “I’ll go and wash these. Thank you.”
Brendan took it all over from Brandi’s hand. Instead of leaving, Brandi pulled him into the bedroom. Darrel, who had got ready to leave, watched them with horror.
Before he could say something, the door was quickly closed. A deep frown marred his handsome features.
Inside the room, Brandi whispered, “Brendan, your room is way too clean. There is nothing for me to do. Bored out of my mind, I took off the sheet and the cover. I think the housekeeper washed them half a month ago. You don’t need to wash them now. Else, there won’t be any spare tonight. I’m sorry…”
Brandi had stayed in this spick and span room for more than half an hour. She had nothing to do here.
But at the same time, she couldn’t go out. Going out meant facing the man who had entered into her life after such a long break. She wanted to delay the inevitable so she stayed in the room alone, deep in thought.
The smile at the corners of Brendan’s mouth deepened when he listened to her. Lovingly, he said, “It doesn’t matter. I can always buy another one after washing these. Thank you for tidying up my room.”
Realizing the man was teasing her, Brandi watched him with a frown. “I didn’t do anything. I can’t believe you keep your room so tidy. I thought it was impossible for men to be so clean!”
“Okay, okay! I apologize! This is my fault.” Brendan found her adorable. There was a bright smile on his face as he conversed with her.
As the two of them stood talking, Darrel’s cold voice came from outside. “Brandi, your mother is asking you to hurry up!”
Brandi could feel her heart thudding against her chest. She looked at Brendan and said, “I don’t want to keep my mother waiting. These… You should consider whether to wash them or not.”
After saying that, Brandi turned around and held the doorknob. Before she could twist it, Brendan called her name. “Wait a minute, Brandi,” he said. She stopped and he went on, “You still care about him very much, don’t you?”
The silence grew taut. But before long, Brandi raised her head and gave a chuckle. “I have loved him for so many years. I would be lying if I said I don’t care about him. However, I intend to do my best not to care.”
When she smiled, Brendan knew it was strained. He nodded his head and said encouragingly, “I believe you can do it.”
Darrel grew more impatient. “Brandi, are you done?” he demanded.
“Yeah!” The next moment, the tall and graceful woman, Brandi, opened the door and appeared before him.
Darrel was relieved to finally see her. “Let’s go,” he said, his voice suddenly becoming gentle.
Brandi felt slightly uncomfortable under his gaze but she managed to give him a small nod. Turning to Brendan, who was holding the sheet, she said, “I’m leaving now. Call me anytime you need help.”
Darrel hadn’t expected their reunion would turn out to be like this. He was very unhappy about her relationship with Brendan. And worst of all, she was asking him to call her anytime he wanted to! He couldn’t bear to watch this.
Therefore, Darrel decided to give vent to his unhappiness. He reached out his hand and held hers. Without giving either of them time to react, he walked out of the apartment.
Brandi felt stunned and her mind went blank.
It was only after the elevator reached downstairs and the cool Rolls-Royce came into her view, she was able to react.
She regarded the tall and handsome man, taking a step away from him. However, he wouldn’t free her hand. She said gently, “Da… Darrel, I can walk by myself.”
Darrel wouldn’t give her a response. He glanced at her for a few seconds and then strode forward, still holding her hand.
He walked with a quickened pace and Brandi had difficulty keeping up with him. Slightly out of breath, she stammered, “Can you… walk slowly?”
Once again, Darrel chose to remain silent. He held her hand more tightly, but apparently slowed his pace.
If this had happened in the past, Brandi would have been overjoyed. But now she smiled bitterly. She knew that Darrel didn’t like her.
He was merely fulfilling his duty by taking her home on time.
They walked towards the car in utter silence. As soon as her hand was released, Brandi immediately got into the back seat.
Then, except for the sound of the engine, there was no sound inside the car.
Darrel looked at the road ahead but he made it a point to observe her every move through the rearview mirror. Gradually, his face softened.
Now that there wasn’t another man to intrude, everything had become beautiful again.
Darrel thought it was time he spoke to her. Clearing his throat, he said, “Brandi, I remember telling you that you shouldn’t enter a man’s bedroom.”
“Really?” Brandi asked, raising her eyebrows. Then she murmured, “I have entered a lot of boys’ bedrooms. None of them meant any harm.”
Darrel was incensed by her remark. His forehead was bunched in a frown. “A lot of men?” he repeated.
‘How many men are there in her life? Why has she become more difficult to deal with?” This thought made him angry and irritable again.
At this very moment, Brandi’s phone rang. She looked at him apologetically and said, “Sorry, I have to answer the call.”
