“A marriage phobia? Isn’t this something I should have?” Darlene murmured to herself.

“But you don’t have it,” Milena said matter-of-factly. She had suddenly become a senior relationship expert. Tapping the table with her slender fingers, she went on, “Maloney is so ravishingly handsome. Perhaps someone will fall for him while he is still on this business trip.”

Darlene froze when she heard Milena. “If anyone dares to look at him, she will have to deal with me!” she said possessively.

“Oh, Darlene, I have never known you were capable of being so jealous. Do you feel this way because you haven’t had s*x with him yet?”

With a cunning smile, Milena teased her cousin. It turned out her hunch was right. With a calm and composed look on her face, Darlene said, “You little girl, where did you learn so much about relationships?”

Milena loathed being treated like a little girl. She said, “I read romance novels and watch soap operas when I am bored. This is the only time I feel like I have anything womanly in me.”

Darlene agreed, “I have to admit only these kiddish things seem to indicate you are a woman.”

“You always replace a way to upset me, Darlene!” she wailed. Raising her voice, she went on, “I have come to notice that now that you are in love, we don’t have much to discuss. Let’s go back to Maloney. If I return home early, my mother might scold me so let’s keep talking.”

“How about we forget Maloney and discuss your blind date?”

Milena shook her head and asked, “Is Maloney still a virgin?”

“Stop!” Darlene said, raising her hand to stop her cousin.

“Did he have s*x with you?”

“If you keep on asking such questions, you’ll have to tell your mother what happened on this blind date yourself.”

“No, Darlene. Don’t be so mean.” With a pitiful look on her face, Milena said, “Actually, I want to learn more about your relationship. I read about a method to test whether a man is likely to have an affair. I was simply trying to help you. Please don’t get me wrong, Darlene.”

“Well, are you done with your questions? It’s my turn now,” Darlene interrupted impatiently.

“I haven’t even started yet! Do answer my questions. Does Maloney smell like perfume every time he comes back from a business trip?”

“No.”

“Does he tell you the specific place of his business trip every time?”

“Sometimes.”

“How often does he call you during a business trip? Does he call you every day? And if he does, does he call you at night?”

At this, Darlene suddenly became silent.

It occurred to her that Maloney hadn’t contacted her in the last two days. And she had no idea where he was!

Noticing that Darlene’s face had darkened, Milena said comfortingly, “It’s said on the Internet that men who often go on business trip are the most likely to have an affair. But Maloney loves you very much so the chances of him having an affair are very slim. Besides, the women outside are definitely not as beautiful as you.”

Darlene took out her phone and dialed his number. To her disappointment, nobody answered her call.

Darlene, so occupied with her thoughts, ignored Milena. She had a bad feeling that something was wrong. “Darlene, you can’t get in touch with Maloney, right? Don’t worry. I’m sure he’s not cheating on you. He might be busy…”

Darlene dialed a few more times, but her efforts were in vain. “Milena, I’m going to replace him. Don’t tell my parents that I can’t reach him, okay?”

There was still a week left before their wedding. Darlene, the bride-to-be, wasn’t able to contact the groom, Maloney. It was no surprise she was getting fidgety and restless. She did not dare to tell her parents about this. Her father wouldn’t let them get married and it might cause him to form a bad impression.

“I know.” Milena nodded sweetly and asked, “Do you need my help? There is someone I can ask to replace out where Maloney is right now.”

“How long is this going to take?” Darlene asked anxiously.

“For him, it won’t take more than five minutes.” Milena seemed pretty confident, her eyes bright and tender.

After giving it some thought, Darlene nodded her head and said, “Okay. Please let me know so that I can get my private plane ready.”

Milena’s eyes flickered. She looked at the name, “Z”, in the address book and dialed the number. “Hello, it’s me,” she said.

“I know.”

The man’s voice on the other end of the line was mellow and cold.

“Help me check a person’s whereabouts.”

“Why should I help you?”

“Because… It’s really urgent! If you can’t help me, it’s okay. There are many people willing to help me.”

“Whose whereabout do you want to investigate?”

“My cousin-in-law. Are you going to help or not?”

“Give me his number.”

“xxx-xxx-xxx-xxxx.”

“Don’t hang up,” he said.

“I won’t! After all, you haven’t told me where he is. Why would I hang up?”

Darlene was all set to arrange a private jet. She held the phone tightly and waited for the location.

“Washington, USA…”

Darlene listened to Milena and was a little relieved. She grabbed her bag and walked out in a hurry. “Milena, thank your friend on my behalf. See you later.”

“Darlene, take care of yourself. Remember to contact me if you need anything,”

Milena called out as Darlene strode out in a hurry.

In this quiet coffee shop, Milena was on her own. Just then, a magnetic voice came from the phone. “How are you going to thank me?”

“By saying thank you.” Milena’s tone was cold. “I guess we are done. I’ll hang up,” she added.

“You’re so ungrateful. Colonel Guzman, that is just typical of you.”

“F**k off!” she spat out angrily. “I’ll give you 30 seconds. How do you want me to thank you? Tell me?” she said finally.

Milena wouldn’t want to owe anyone anything, especially this man. She poked the coffee cup with a spoon and her pretty face was full of displeasure.

The man was a genius at decipherment in the army. It was easy for him to track down people, but here he was trying to bargain with Milena. She found it disgraceful!

“You have ten seconds left,” she said.

Those ten seconds would pass in the blink of an eye. Obviously, Milena was counting down the time quickly on purpose.

“Ten, nine, eight, seven…”

“Come to my house tonight… and clean up my house.”

In the last six seconds, he took the initiative to ask for a thank-you gift.

“No! I don’t know how to clean the house.”

“Well, then cook a meal for me.”

“Sorry, I am a disaster in the kitchen. I might blow it up.”

“How about instant noodles?”

“Are you insane? Instant noodles? I’ll treat you to dinner. That’s quick and easy.”

“No, you don’t get to decide.”

“I don’t? I’ll hang up if you say so.”

“Milena, if you hang up, I’ll let everyone in the army base know that you are going on blind dates and that you are a cheater!”

“It’s rare to hear you talk so much. It’s very unfortunate that the words coming out of your mouth are so unpleasant.”

“If you don’t want to be the talk of the army base again, come here tonight.”

“Damn it! After paying you back, I’ll stay away from you.”

“That’s not going to happen.”

“What do you mean?”

“Seven o’clock tonight. If you don’t come, there will be consequences.”

Milena could think of nothing to say.

“Don’t forget that I know your whereabouts. Wherever you go, I can track you down.”

“F**k off!”

Milena hung up the call angrily. Ever since she knew this man, he had been a pain in the a*s!

He was who she would call her nemesis. Milena had finally met someone who could completely conquer her.
