Chapter III
In a failed attempt to pick up my books and get away from him and his group as fast as I could, I felt a hand enclose around my wrist. It was tight and the force made me wince. I was pulled up to Cameron’s face and I could feel his warm, minty breath fanning my face.
“Stay out of my way nerd or you won’t know what hit you,” he hissed furiously into my ear before dropping me back on the ground again. I could feel the tears welling up behind my eyes from the pain in my wrist but I kept them in check along with the exploding feeling in my chest about being this close to a male. I kept my head down and picked up the rest of my books in a hurry before I noticed he’d already started walking away. Some of his friends gave me sorrowful looks as they passed before jogging to catch up with him.
I groaned inwardly realizing that I was so incredibly late for class and to be honest, I’d rather crawl into a small hole and die. I don’t know why I acted so weak, god I wasn’t even that weak around Catherine. I was trained better than that, but either way, I really didn’t want to get on the bad side of the school’s notorious bad boy. He wasn't good news.
I spent the whole of class time, once I’d made it there going over what Cameron had said to me after our horrid run in, the words scared the absolute shit out of me. Did he mean it and if he did, what would I do about it? Shaking my head I let out an exasperated sigh, I couldn’t believe he’d do anything like that just because I chose to try and see the good in people.
Being the school’s Quarterback and the most popular guy in school he’d probably forget about me by the end of the day since he’d never noticed me before, which I was highly grateful for at that present moment in time. He always had tons of girls swooning over him, trying to distract him and he just flipped them all off with a wave of his hand.
Although despite his distinct lack of heart he was quite gorgeous; he had the most mesmerizing piercing grey eyes and brown/blonde shaggy hair that stuck out in places causing him to be quite devilishly handsome. He had a sharp jawline, cheekbones that could cut your finger and the pearly white teeth that every girl fell for. He didn’t smile a lot so there was never rarely a time where you would see his heart stopping smile. He was fit and muscular from football and he dressed much like a stereotypical bad boy would in his leather jackets and denim jeans.
Any girl would fall for him just due to his good looks but I’m not any girl and his attitude towards people below him on the so called social ladder frustrated me beyond belief.
The loud shrill ring of the bell broke me out of my thoughts and I realised that my first period class was over. Rushing to pack up my things, I stepped out of the classroom and into the swarming hall full of students. I pulled my iPhone out and texted Claire, I knew she’d be angry at me for leaving her this morning but I was having such a bad day already so I just needed her company after this class.
Do you have lunch third period? - I
Sure do! - C
Okay I’ll meet you at the lockers? - I
Sounds good, see you there Bella. - C
I then rushed off to my second class. I hated World History but I’d always been good at it, considering I had History drilled into my head since I was the age of five. I spent most of the class spaced out and in my own thoughts.
Even my teacher didn’t pressure me, I was the top of the class. Being a senior now I was craving for time to go back, even if I had to go through all the torment again, I would. Claire would tell me I was mental but I’d rather take the responsibility of being in school then running a country
The bell rang again not long after an assessment was given out and I was out of there as quick as possible, walking straight towards my locker. I knew Claire was waiting for me there. I was just about to the locker when I ran into what I thought was another warm brick wall. My books went everywhere for the second time today and I swear I was going to castrate whoever it was this time.
“I thought I told you to stay out of my way nerd!”
The sound of that voice had a name to it instantaneously. I picked up the books that were scattered on the floor before standing up and rolling my eyes in his direction. I wasn’t going to back down this time so I glared defiantly at him, “Maybe you and your trees shouldn’t walk in a line blocking the whole bloody hallway and I might not have fucking run into you, asshole!”
I didn’t realize what I’d said till it tumbled out of my mouth but I didn’t dare break my stance. I wasn’t giving him the upper hand this time. He had a shocked expression on his face but quickly recovered with a smirk, “The nerd has a voice” he replied with an icily cool tone. By then we’d gathered a crowd and the halls were deathly silent. There were people recording and I was terrified of someone replaceing out who I was off the internet.
I saw Claire at the edge of the crowd giving me a ‘no go’ sign and I nodded my head at her, turning back to face the asshat in front of me. “Excuse me Cameron, but I’ve got better things to do then waste my breath and argue with an egotistical asshole.”
I nodded my head at him, stepped around his largely built body and continued walking towards my locker where I saw Claire waiting with large eyes. I heard oo’s but paid no attention.
“Dude she wrecked you,” was the last thing I heard before turning the corner. The crowd had dispersed somewhat by the time I got there and the bad boy had disappeared along with his friends. I put my books back into my locker and grabbed out my purse to go buy some cafeteria food. Just as I was closing my locker door I was crushed by a certain 5′6 brunette, again.
“What was that?!” Claire shrieked.
I blocked my ears as she started rambling on about how I went up against the school’s bad boy and why I shouldn’t mess with him, but my head was pounding and I just wanted her to stop. I had honestly forgotten she was standing right next to my locker before I opened it, good lord. “.. Like why would you even do that, what were you thinking! We’re already at 0 on the social ladder, is it possible to be at -1”
I just stood there and laughed at the expression on her face as she tried to work out if we could go down even further on the social ladder, not that I cared. “Claire, I did it simply because he was a jerk and it wasn’t the first time I’d run into him today.” I stated coolly.
She looked at me as her mouth formed an ‘o’ shape. I had to admit she looked a bit like a fish.
“You have to tell me everything Bella omg!”
“Do I have too Claire,” I groaned.
“Yes Princess, you’ve got no choice.”
“Fine, but watch what you say Claire,” I replied quickly. She rolled her eyes at me but said nothing in reply. “Let’s just go get lunch and replace a place to sit before we have no time at all.”
By the time we got to the cafeteria we only had forty minutes left of lunch. People were staring and whispering at me and I assumed it was from what happened earlier. I picked up my pace and let out a breath of relief when I reached the table Claire was at after going to buy my food. She was munching on a ham and salad sandwich obviously made by her. Her hazel eyes brightened up when she saw me and I knew what I was in for.
“Okay spill!” She squealed as I sat down.
“Fine.” I sighed rolling my eyes.
“Don’t you dare roll your eyes at me Bella.”
I giggled, “Sorry mom.”
I started telling her the story before she tackled me to the ground like I knew she would. “Well after I left you at your class I kind of ran into him in the hallway and he told me to keep away from him while pretty much breaking my wrist,” I said as I showed her the lovely bruise forming around my petite wrist. She gasped and took in a deep breath as she grabbed my arm and inspected the bruise, I thought she was going to faint, “You know your Father would literally have his head if he found out he did that to you!”
“I know Claire I know, this is why it must be kept a secret and my parents can’t replace out.
“I could totally imagine your Mother beating the shit out of him even though she’s ‘you know who’.” She said giggling to herself quoting ‘you know who’ with her fingers.
“You know you just made her sound like Voldemort from Harry Potter?” Laughing at what she’d said.
“Oh, I did. Well let’s not tell her about that one!”
We both erupted in laughter causing a few of the nearby tables to look at us like we were crazy. But it wasn’t the first time Claire had accidentally referred to my mother as some person from a movie. I groaned, “So much for getting through the last year of High School with my head down having no issues or problems.”
“Hey, it could be worse I guess Bella?” She tried to tell me in a convincing tone.
“I’m just ready to go home Claire, can school end after third period. That’d be great.”
“Come on Bella, two more periods to go and then we’re out of here for the day.”
“Fine.” I said dragging my feet
It did not get better from that moment on.
I’d survived third period and was on my way to my free period when I’d walked past Ash and Katherine having a make out session. She spotted me, making it more intense which only fueled my hurt while tears stung at the corner of my eyes. I just kept walking.
Bloody Ash and his perfect genetics. His mop of brown hair and his emerald green eyes had always caught my attention. I’d fallen in love with him immediately. I knew I’d cop it from Katherine later for staring too long but I wasn’t in the mood.
Sadly, Claire had another class while I had a free period.
I never knew what to do with them though so I went to the library to escape and get lost in one of my favourite romance novels. Since I had no choice in who I was to marry I just dreamed about being the characters from the books I read. I opened the library door and scanned the room before replaceing myself locked in a gaze with the piercing stormy grey eyes I’d seen twice already today.
I groaned inwardly. I just wanted to relax and get all my frustrations out into a book but no, Cameron and his musketeers had to be in here to ruin my day. I quickly rushed over to my seat as their gazes burned a hole through my shirt. I had every intention to ignore them and I sat down pulling out one of my favourite books ‘The Bad Boy’s Girl’.
It was quiet for a while until I felt something wet hit my cheek. I looked down beside me to replace a spit ball lodged on the desk.
This is what I get for running into the school’s bad boy. Brilliant.
I turned around and shot him a deathly glare before turning back to my book and moving away from the spit ball sitting on the table. It wasn’t long after the spit ball that a solid piece of paper hit me in the back of the head. I honestly just wanted to bang my head on the desk repeatedly knowing that this was how it was going to be for the next hour.
I wasn’t going to back down so I turned around and threw it right back at his face. Which was my mistake since he caught it easily and laughed loudly at my feeble attempt. Damn Quarterback.
“Can’t you behave like a normal human being instead of an animal?” I hissed bluntly in their direction.
“Aw, now where’s the fun in that nerd.” He replied, his grey eyes alight with amusement.
“Nerd? Is that the best you’ve got Cammy?” I replied in a sickly-sweet tone, my lips curling up into a smirk.
His reaction is what caused that smirk to creep up onto my face. His face turned stone cold and his eyes were like piercing daggers, his lips formed a tight line on his face and his nose was scrunched up in disgust and just by that reaction, I could tell he hated the name. But I didn’t care because I was having a field day, I broke out in laughter at his expression clutching my stomach trying to not die. His friends were chuckling behind him but he gave them a simple glare and they shut up immediately. Some of them were still trying to muffle their laughs with their hands and I found that just as brilliant.
“Don’t you like the name Cammy?” I spoke teasingly awaiting his next reaction. He didn’t answer me but instead got up and stormed towards the door of the library but not before chucking a challenging smirk in my direction. Although I caught a slight sense of sadness in his eyes before he flicked his head back towards the door and walked out. I must have bruised his ego a little bit but that serves him right I guess. I mentally high-fived myself.
“Bella, you are crazy you know that, he looked like his head was going to explode.” I turned around to replace Seth behind me, gaping in awe at what I’d just done. He had a chiselled jawline and defining facial features. Specks of gold stood out in his amber coloured eyes. He was on the football team so he was just as built up as the rest of them. His auburn hair color was gorgeous and his hair was combed backwards somewhat neatly with pieces falling around his face. He was less of a player then the rest of them, a lot more kind and easy going.
“If he wants to be an ass and give me shit then that’s what I’ll give back Seth, it’s as simple as that.”
“Well you did a good job of that.” Jason Cummings came around the side of Seth looking quite amused. “Well done,” he said with a smirk curling onto his lips. Meet the one out of two of the school’s biggest players, he had darkish brown hair and hazel eyes which were unique, he was built up as well and had the defined facial features along with Seth. He wasn’t the biggest bad boy of the school but he was known for his flings and prankish behaviour. There was always a glint of trouble in his eyes that scared the teachers I’m sure.
“Thanks, I guess.” Laughing nervously over the fact that they were paying so much attention to me.
“Let’s hope he gets over it or she’s going to be in a lot of trouble.” Enter player number two, Ace Brooks. He’s just as handsome as Jason but he lacked such a defined jawline and cheekbones. His body made up for the lack of definition in his face which made it all better. His hair was jet black and tossed all over the place, still managing to look perfect. His big brown doe eyes were the reason girls fell at his feet, excluding me of course but he was still adorable none the less.
“She’ll be fine, he won’t hurt her. Well, I don’t think so anyway.” A glint of mischievousness passed through Jason’s grey eyes before amusement washed over it. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to face Seth who was now sitting in a chair beside me.
“He won’t touch you don’t worry but you might want to watch out, he will want revenge.” A smirk showing clearly on his face before they all got up and left.
My heart was beating furiously at the fact that I’d just been approached by the three of the hottest and most popular boys in school. Not even that but the challenging smirk Cameron chucked over his shoulder and the boys telling me that he’d want revenge was making my stomach do a spin cycle. I packed up my books as I heard the bell ring and I was out of there like lightning.
