Project Angel Book 1: Awakenings -
Unwanted Guest
Chapter 9
Enjeru
When we arrive back at the base it’s dark, but no seems on edge about it so I shrug it off. On another note, I’m not entirely sure what happened for the two days we were in New York. I mostly slept from what I’m told, but the group feels tense especially when Micah and Jake are in a room together. Making me think there’s more to the story than I’m being told.
Micah seems extremely annoyed while Jake gives off a murderous aura. Throughout the whole trip back I felt on edge because those two were on edge. Though Jake has seemingly done a 180 from before we left to now. He treats me politely and has been quite apologetic for what he’s done so far. It makes me feel slightly happy that I’m getting my old friend back. But the more Jake is with me the more I can feel that Micah hates me. His looks scare me sometimes because of how much despise they hold. Finally, we approach the doors. Micah pushes them open and the lobby is completely black. I can sense people in the darkness, but I can’t see them too well. When we step into the building the lights turn on exposing a welcome banner and hundreds of faces. They all scream:
“Welcome back team Alpha!!”
Then everybody runs up to Micah and the others leaving me alone. I see Jake turn back to me, but he’s pulled away by some attractive nymphs. I turn and slip into the courtyard aware my presence isn’t needed or wanted. I look towards the sky examining the moon, but my mind drifts to other thoughts. I know I won’t be accepted, it comes with what, and who I am. Even if Jake has improved everyone else still seems to hate me. I sigh wondering how long I’ll be stuck here. The more I think about it the bigger headache I get, so I decide to smoke to calm my nerves. I pull out my pack of cigarettes and a lighter. I can’t even take the first drag before I feel an all too familiar presence.
“Why are you hiding like I don’t know you’re there Kiro?”
“No reason at all just felt like it.”
I pull my gun out and turn off the safety.
“Leave before you get captured too.” I sigh while blowing smoke in his face.
He allows the smoke to engulf him before fading away. Kiro always hated this habit of mine even if I can’t die from it. He’s always too concerned with my wellbeing.
“I’m worried about you. What happened in New York?”
“You tell me I can’t remember.”
He goes silent seeming to debate on whether or not to tell me. I turn away not really caring at this point. If it was important I’m sure I’ll remember soon.
“What made you come, father?”
“No. I just wanted to check up on you. I know I haven’t been there like I should, but I’m working on getting you out of here.”
“Hmmm,” I hum not fully believing his words for some reason.
He jumps down from the wall and takes the gun from my hand. He places it in my holster and grabs my hand tightly.
“I will never betray, not like Father, not like Mother, not like these snakes here. I am here for you.”
“I know it just doesn’t feel like it sometimes.”
“That’s the lies they’re trying to feed you, don’t trust their words,” he says, as he points to the building behind us.
“I am your twin you’re other half so you can always rely on me.”
“I don’t trust anything here, but there’s not much I can do when I’m trapped like a wild beast in a cage.”
“Not for long dear sister not for long.”
“Hey who is. . .” Before the person can finish Kiro is gone leaving me alone.
Some people run outside after hearing the man yelling about my brother being here. His voice goes in, and out as I try to focus.
“Enjeru are you okay?”
“My h......he..head...feel...dizzy.., and ...hurts.”
I fall to my knees while grabbing the sides of my head. Then everything goes dark.
Jake
I run over to her. She’s out cold but otherwise healthy.
“Will she be okay.” someone asks sounding more fearful than concerned.
“Yeah she’s just tired is all. I’ll take her to her room.”
“No I’ll do it I need to check the stupid seal there’s been an upset.” Micah states annoyed.
“As you can see there’s nothing wrong so I’ll take her back.”
“No, you won’t.” He growls while yanking me back.
“Who’s stopping me you?”
“Kiro….Kiro help me…..mom she……it hurts….HELP!!!!” Enjeru screams while in my arms.
Her eyes fly open as tears stream down her face. She looks around and immediately jumps out of my arms and runs. I want to follow her, but Micah gets in my way.
“She may be this amazing creature in your eyes, but if she makes you forget where your loyalties lie she can disappear. I’ll make sure of that.”
“And when that happens I’ll make sure Everything you have here disappears for good.” I hiss back.
