Pure Soul Book 2 -

13. Azael
I Silently curse Cassiel’s commander and the other female angel for the complication they have just caused. Honestly, I’m not worried about the mission, the complication of my assignment; no, I’m not sure I can stay away from her in general. To be denied being around her, her essence, her soul, is unfathomable. So, I told her we will replace a way to be able to see each other. After she leaves my side to go back to her house, I stay where I am for a couple of minutes to give her time to get there without giving her away that she hadn’t been at the beach by herself. When I see her go inside, I go to my place and take a shower to remove the salt water from my body. While in the shower I argued with myself as to if I should send Asmodeus a message about the dilemma that has developed or not. Finally, I came to terms with myself that I needed to advise him of the situation since it pertained to my mission.
His response was telling me to tread lightly, and I wanted to write him back and say, ‘no shit!’ but as he is Head of Legion, and I wanted to keep my post, I kept my mouth shut, my fingers still. Sighing, I crawled into the bed and fell asleep quite quickly. I woke up at about 3:45 in the morning because I knew the angels would be up and getting ready for their search. I go outside to have a cigarette and to watch them as they leave so that I can let my unit know who goes which way. Since I’ve drawn suspicion to myself, I can’t follow them as I had planned to. Roughly five minutes after I stepped outside, I heard the door next door being opened and closed.
Risking a glance, I looked over to see who had come out and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was Cass. She was holding a mug in her hands that I could only assume was coffee, as the steam drifted up to brush her face. I’m actually jealous of the steam. Laughing I take a drag from my cigarette and then feel my phone buzz in my pocket. Pulling it out of my jeans pocket, I see Cassiel’s name. Looking up from the screen over to Cass, I arch an eyebrow in question. She grins. Good morning sexy. What were you just laughing about? The message causes a grin to split across my face and I send a text back. I was laughing at myself because I was jealous of the steam caressing your face. And sexy huh? Good morning to you, beautiful!
All she wrote back is ‘yep, growl’ and I actually blush. Cassiel is distracted as a door opens and her name is called. Discretely she waves goodbye to me as she turns around and goes back into the house. I had just finished my cigarette and so I went back inside my dwelling as well. Since their house was going to be empty very soon, I was going to visit, okay maybe not visit so much as break in, and see if I might be able to locate the intel that they had received yesterday. Sitting in front of the window I’m not surprised to see them all leave through the front door. The areas they suspect the Astatine to be in must be relatively close by. I waited near the window for a half-hour to be doubly sure that no one would suddenly return.
Going out back through the sliding door, I walk through our semblance of yards and climb the back deck to Cass’s sliding door. My hope that they had left the door unlocked is confirmed as I tug on it, and it slides easily to the side. Stepping through I replace myself in the kitchen. The layout of the place is similar to my own though they have a second floor, and my place doesn’t. I’m dying to check out Cassiel’s room, to be able to breathe her scent in, refreshing my memory of her scent. However, I knew I wouldn’t be able to spend a lot of time in their home and so I made my way down the first hallway where the first three bedrooms were located. As luck would have it, the commander and 2nd in command both occupied a room on this floor, and I wouldn’t have to continue searching through the house. Two on the left and one on the right, taking my chances, I go to the one on the right and praise myself for the choice. This is definitely the commander’s room and I stride in confidently walking right over to the desk situated in front of one of the two windows where documents were strewn about.
The map is half hidden by pieces of paper and file folders, but I still recognize it. As I gaze at it, I see four areas on the map that have been circled by a blue sharpie and I’m assuming these locations are the suspected areas for the Astatine element. I take a photo and quickly send it off to Asmodeus and then text the coordinates of each spot as well. After I’ve done this, I sweep my eyes around the room to make sure that nothing appears out of place and then I walk out. On a whim I run up the steps and peek my head into the first two rooms across from each other, neither of which is Cass’s. That means the last door on the left is hers. I step into her room and breathe in deeply. Her scent causes a dizzying sensation to flow over me and I sigh happily. Okay, okay, I need to leave. Something close to sadness takes hold of my heart but I walk back out shutting the door behind me. I walk up to my back door and go inside. Feeling accomplished at having found some valuable information and passing it off to Asmodeus, I take a seat at the window to keep an eye out for the angels’ return.
A couple of hours later, having not seen any sign of any of them, I pull out my cell phone deciding to send Cass a text. Why am I missing you so badly already, beautiful? And it’s true I really do. I allow scenarios to drown me in thought of how we could secretly meet up with each other. We could meet up on the beach like we did yesterday but that isn’t appealing to me because I want to take her on a date. Since we are only a mile and a half away from something called Broadway at the Beach, I think it would be a fun spot to go and I pull up a web browser to search the internet for all the things tourists have access to. Clicking on different sites I realize there are well over a dozen places that Cass and I could become swallowed up by the crowd. I see a movie theater and think it would be perfect for us because in the dark, no one will be able to see us. I don’t even mind that we won’t be able to get physical; just being with her is all that matters to me. I love being with her, I... love her! Oh, shit. That hit my conscience like a ton of bricks.
The collective ‘we’ of the Fallen angels have always made fun of the angels’ and their beliefs about love and a true mate bond that though rare can happen between angels’. Now, however, I regret every snide remark I’ve ever made in reference to the term. I do question the possibility because I don’t think any pure angel and fallen angel have ever been true mates before. I do believe that we are true mates though. Granted I’d have to look up the definition but even without it I know this is what we are. Now it is a matter of broaching this with Cassiel. Somehow, I missed her response to my text I had sent a few minutes ago. I click on it and see: Miss you too. We should be returning from our search soon. I’m thinking of a way to sneak over to your place as I write this. I’ll let you know what I come up with! I laugh while reading the message to see that she and I have been on the exact same line of thinking. Well... I think I’ve come up with a solution. There’s a movie theater about a mile and a half from here. The entire area is a huge tourist attraction, and we can easily get lost in the crowd. We can watch a movie if you’re cool with that. Mere seconds is all I have to wait to receive her answer. That’s perfect! I will figure out how to get out of the house for a few hours. What time do you want to meet? I suggest we meet around six o’clock and after she replies with a sounds good, I put the phone on the charger and go outside for a cigarette.
My timing is perfect as I step out onto my porch Cass and two of her companions come strolling down the sidewalk as they make their way to their house. As soon as Cass spots me her eyes light up but she quickly schools her excitement into a controlled somber expression so that the other two don’t see but she does give a low at the waist wave and though I don’t allow my smile to cross my lips, I do allow the smile to show in my eyes so that she knows I’ve seen her gesture. I watch them go in and then after a couple more puffs on my cigarette, I go inside to change my clothes so that I look halfway decent. Assessing myself in the floor length mirror that’s been mounted to the back side of the closet door, I make sure there are no wrinkles in my grey tee shirt, my faded and worn looking jeans are tucked into the top of my black combat boots and I have a chain hanging loose from a front belt hoop to my wallet which is stuffed in my back pocket. Looking at the clock on my phone I see it’s about a quarter till six and I decide to go ahead and leave. Since I’ve never been to that area, I want to scope the place out, get a lay of the land if you will.
