Chapter 235 The Critical Hour Of The Contest

The soldiers from the White Army were having a fierce battle with one squad of the Black Army,which was led by Commander Cao. In the heat of that hour, Rocky led his squad and arrived at theback end of the White Army's troop. It was a strike back situation. The very next moment Rocky andhis men launched a surprise attack against their opponents.

The White Army was dazed by this sudden attack. They weren't expecting to be sandwiched andattacked by two squads of the Black Army at the same time. They were in a fix. Acknowledging theunfavorable conditions, the White Army's commander immediately ordered his troop to withdraw toa terrain that seemed more favorable for their safety. They then stayed in that area and defendedthemselves from the attacks of their opponents in a tactful way, hoping desperately that the othersquads would come to their rescue.

Unfortunately, the soldiers from the three troops of the White Army were busy chasing feints of theBlack Army that Rocky had arranged in advance to lure and distract them from the real fight. Theyseemed to have been badly tricked.

However, it wasn't long before they realized that they got fooled. They immediately rushed back tosupport the lone squad which was sandwiched and attacked.

But still, it was too late. The lone squad had already surrendered and given up their flag. So, at themoment, the Black Army was on the lead, one step closer to the final victory with 7 flags and twosquads left.

Who could ever imagine that Rocky, a breeder at the beast farm, who had been ridiculed by theFrontline Commanders earlier was now actually the one who had the most flags?

"Excuse me, but may I know your name?" Commander Cao who was always extremely arrogantasked Rocky modestly. As an experienced Frontline Commander, he knew that it wasn't easy toachieve so many flags. It was not accomplished by accident or fluke. If Rocky was not capable, hewouldn't have managed to attain such success.

"Rocky Bai," Rocky responded calmly.

"So, you are Rocky. May I know what role you hold in the northeast military camp? When you saythat you are a breeder, you must be joking, right?” Commander Cao carefully inquired. It wasdifficult for him or any other commoner to believe that a mere breeder could have such outstandingcommanding abilities and that he could apply military strategy and tactics so flexibly and cleverly."Now, do I have to lie to you?" Rocky put up a straight face and asked when he realized thatCommander Cao couldn't believe his identity.

"But Rocky, your way of commanding the troops is no less than the way real commanders do it,including myself. This is definitely not something a breeder can do!" Commander Cao raised hisqueries, also subtly praising Rocky's great ability at the same time.

"Believe it or not, it's up to you," Rocky said. "But the most important thing now is to keep theseseven flags we have gained to ourselves.” He racked his brain as he stroked his chin. Even thoughthey now had an edge over the other White Army, there was still some time before the “Army FlagContest’ ended. And right now, the three squads of the White Army must have realized their trickand shall be on their way back to take revenge.

"The White Army only has three squads left. If we launch another surprise attack against even one ofthem, there is a great chance for us to win this contest,” Commander Cao said. They had workedtogether and defeated one of the squads from the White Army. Commander Cao was ratherrelieved as he finally won, after being chased by the opponents for so long. Thus, he wanted to usethe same tactics to get to their final victory.

"But I'm afraid the same tactics won't work again. In order to hold the other three squads back, Ihave already sacrificed fifty soldiers as bait. By now the three squads must have figured out ourdeception, so they will join forces to take revenge,” Rocky said, while shaking his head indisappointment.

"Sacrificed fifty soldiers?" Commander Cao gasped in disbelief.

Rocky then told Commander Cao about his plan to lure the three squads of the White Army into atrap. Hearing how he used only a small squad with fifty people to hold back the three squads,Commander Cao was awestruck and simply stared at Rocky in amazement. He couldn't help butthink that this man in front of him was even more skillful in military strategies than he had expected.He had to admit that even he couldn't have pulled up such a good plan, and that his commandingskills were far behind Rocky's.

"But if they join hands, their strength will become superior to ours. My squad has lost more thanhalf of the soldiers while your squad has less than 400. Even if we chose to defend the area we arestationing, we might not be able to resist their fierce attack completely.” Commander Caoimmediately put forth his concern after he realized that now their only way out was to defend,instead of attacking.

"As long as we can defend our area, we will win. But if we can't, we'll definitely lose. Victory will bedecided by the coming final battle!" Rocky firmly expressed.

"I think, if we defend against their attack with all our forces, maybe there is still a chance for us towin. I am not trying to boast here, but my defensive skills are second to none among all theFrontline Commanders. No one dares to argue on that,” Commander Cao said proudly as he pattedhis chest. Actually, he was thinking that since Rocky had shown his outstanding commanding skills,if he did not come up with something, then he would really be inferior to a breeder, which would beregarded as a joke in the future. Arrogant as he was, he just couldn't afford to lose face like that."But if we concentrate all our forces on defense, it will only lead us to a dead end,” Rocky objectedwithout hesitation.

"No way! I will not allow that to happen!" Commander Cao retorted back in response and had afeeling of embarrassment encompassing him. He had always been confident about himself. Buttoday, he seemed to have suffered too much humiliation.

"Because if we concentrate on defense, the three squads of the White Army will definitely join forcesto attack us. It is possible that they may be able to break our defense line in less than half an hour.But, now we have at least half an hour until the end of the Army Flag Contest. So, if we do it thatway, we'll lose without any doubt,” Rocky immediately analyzed the situation and was sure that hewas quite right about the situation they were caught in.

Commander Cao felt that Rocky's analysis was quite reasonable, but to restore his self-esteem alittle bit, he immediately questioned Rocky, "If we don't concentrate on defense, then what shouldwe do now? I think if we defend by relying on the terrain, we should be able to hold for about halfan hour because the terrain is easy to hold but difficult to attack.”

"Do we still have time to choose the right terrain?" Rocky asked innocently and cast a questioninglook at Commander Cao.

Just then, a soldier rushed to report to them; saying that three squads of the White Army wereapproaching them.

At once, Commander Cao looked at Rocky astoundingly. He didn't expect Rocky to predict thesituation with such miraculous accuracy.

"Looks like there is only one way now," Rocky mysteriously uttered. At that moment, he wasabruptly struck by a brilliant idea.

"What is it?" the tensed Commander Cao asked.

"We use array," Rocky simply spoke out these three words. Now that it came to the most criticalhour of the Contest, he had to use a very powerful way to keep their advantage until the end.Obviously, using an array was a good choice for a situation like this.

"Array? Do you even know how to use the array?" Commander Cao doubtingly asked. It wascommon sense that the array art was extremely profound and esoteric. It could only be used bypeople who had a deep understanding of the art of war. If there was even a slightest blunder indeploying an array, it would defeat the whole army while at the brink of success.

In the entire Crimson Dragon Group, there were only two people who were good at using the array:the Commander in Chief and the Deputy Commander in Chief. And in terms of array, DeputyCommander in Chief was more proficient than Commander in Chief who was also her master. As theold saying went, the pupil outdoes his master. So, as soon as Rocky said that he wanted to usearray, Commander Cao realized that he was not an ordinary person. No wonder he had seen Rockycome to join the 'Army Flag Contest’ with Deputy Commander in Chief.

"Is there anything weird?" Rocky couldn't help but ask, when he saw Commander Cao's reaction.

Of course, for a modern scientist like Rocky who was equipped with such a large amount ofprofound knowledge that others would never discover, array art was something he had grasped outof his privileged access.

"No, no. I am just curious about what kind of array you want to use,” Commander Cao humblyinquired.

"Eight Heaven Locks Array!" Rocky told him about the ancient special array that had a strong powerof attack and defense.

"What is this array about? Till today, I had only heard about the shield array, the saber array, theempty gate array... This is really my first time to hear about the Eight Heaven Locks Array.”Commander Cao was confused and wanted to know more about the array.

"If you know it, I am sure you can be appointed as Deputy Commander in Chief," Rocky saidteasingly and raised his eyebrows.

"Rocky, you are mocking me!" Commander Cao said meekly, with an embarrassed smiled.

"We don't have much time now. We should retreat immediately. I'll tell you about this array whilewe do so. To deploy the array, we have to first choose a large open area," Rocky explained urgently."An open area! But how do we defend in an open area?” Commander Cao asked, puzzled by Rocky'sidea.

"The Eight Heaven Locks Array can be used for both attack and defense after being well deployed.So, with this array, we don't have to rely on the advantage of any terrain at all. As long as it is usedproperly, we can stop the attack of thousands of armies!" Rocky exclaimed with great confidence.Commander Cao was not very confident about the magical function of the array. But the demand ofthe moment was such that he had no other option but to retain his trust in Rocky.
