"What on earth happened?"

Jensen did not speak. Mia choked out. "The collaboration between the Burton family and the McCray family was a trap. We were ambushed by the Burton family, and Hayes... he was hit by a car trying to save us."

"Damn it!" Kohen cursed under his breath, abruptly pulling a knife from a nearby bodyguard and pointing it at them. "What are your lives worth? Why would my brother save you? Why?"

Mia bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. 'It's my fault. I wanted to save Jensen, but I should have gone alone. I shouldn't have dragged Hayes into this. He seemed cold-blooded and heartless, and I neve thought that he would risk his life for me. Why was he so good to me?'

"Kohen..."

Suddenly, a weak cry rang out. Hayes had awakened.

Kohen hurriedly moved closer, gripping Hayes's hand. "Bro!"

Hayes's face was deathly pale. He did not look at Kohen, but instead turned his gaze to Mia. His eyes were calm. He saw Mia's red-rimmed eyes and the tears lingering there, and a self-mocking smile spread across his face. He never expected that Mia would shed tears for him too. He knew that it must be because he saved her, and she felt guilty. But no matter how heartbroken or tearful she was for him; it was only because he had saved her. There were no feelings involved. He understood that.

"Mr. McCray, your brother... he has been severely injured..."

"What do you mean by 'severely injured'?" Kohen suddenly grabbed the doctor's collar, yelling, "I want you to save him! I want you to heal him now!"

The doctor wiped the sweat from his brow, his voice full of sorrow. "Your brother's legs were crushed in the accident. Even if he survives, I'm afraid... I'm afraid he will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life."

"Nonsense!" Kohen suddenly threw a

fierce punch at the doctor's jaw. "My brother's legs can't be crippled. If you can't heal him, I'll replace another doctor I don't believe there isn'ta single doctor in this world who can cure him!"

However, compared to Kohen's grief and anger, Hayes seemed particularly calm. After hearing the doctor's diagnosis, there was not even a trace of emotion on his face.

Mia looked at him, and the tears she had been holding back finally fell. She placed her hand on the ground, choking out. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry...'

"

Hayes smiled faintly. "If you don't

like me, there is no need to be so upset." Mia shook her head, sobbing uncontrollably. Hayes mocked

himself "Although I say ne

I you

I also put Jensen in danger first. In

the end, this outcome is my karma, isn't it?"

"It's not like that. It's not..." Mia shook her head, choking on her words.

Hayes's eyes were devoid of life as he looked at her, his heart filled with sorrow. After a long moment, he suddenly said to Kohen, "Let them go."

Mia looked at him in disbelief.

Hayes smiled at her. "You're free now. You can be with the one you truly love, without any reservations. Are you happy?"

Mia choked, too heartbroken to speak. She crawled over to him, her face full of grief. "I won't leave. Let me take care of you."

Hayes scoffed, looking at Kohen with difficulty. "Let them leave. I... don't want to see them, not ever again."

In the end, Mia and Jensen were driven out of the McCray family.

Kohen, smoking a cigarette, looked coldly at the man and woman before him. "Everyone says my brother is cold-blooded and heartless, but in reality, it's you two who are

heartless. He's borne too many net

burdens since childhood, and

though he deeply loved a woman, he never dared to show it. You may go. Honestly, I really wanted to make you both pay for what happened to

his legs, but he insisted on letting you leave."
