Chapter 111: The Torment Call

Lyra's pov

"I have to tell you a secret, and a secret it shall remain," I told her, drawing the last part of the statement in an effort to lay emphasis.

"You sound strange, I haven't revealed any promise of yours in time past, why the emphasis on this?" she asked, dimmed by the cold touch of unjust suspicion.

"I've never told you of such before, but I think it's time to reveal it to you," I said, looking her directly into the eyes. Her eyes were full of majestic tenderness, eager to hear and keep a most valued secret. "Ok, here it goes; ' I'm.....'" I drew the statement, letting her senses get to it's climax.

".... starving" I completed.

Her mouth went agape.

"You...." her reply was cut short by a knock on the door.

I went to the entrance to see who it was, but the doorknob was twisted, Axel coming in.

"Hey Axel," I greeted dully.

"Good morning Lyra, I need to talk to you," he replied, acting with a chivalrous delicacy of honor. He took calculated steps to me and stopped abruptly in front of me.

I didn't move.

"You look beautiful this morning," he remarked, expecting a compliment. I gave him none.

"I understand how you feel, Lyra, I'm sorry, it shouldn't have happened that way," he explained to the air obviously.

"How else should it have occurred? In secret? I caught you fucking a whore in your office. Look, we shouldn't be having this conversation. Not at all. You cheated and that's it," I said with intended but unreal certainty.

"Are you calling our engagement off?" he asked, with an ineffable sensation of irritability. "Engagement?" I repeated.

"Like I said earlier, we shouldn't be having this conversation, you should leave," I added.

"Please give me a chance to win you back," he pleaded.

I knew that if he persisted, I would lose all holds and fall back to him, his eyes, his tender touch and affection. He probably noticed my weakness and continued to approach me. I somehow got hold of myself and pushed his hands away. I moved away from him, and into the room, tears filled in my eyes.

Amira's POV

"Are you alright," I asked Lyra as she came back into the room. she just lay down and faced the wall.

"Poor child," I murmured, she's gone through a lot in her life, going back and forth from the land of the dead, and facing a lot of complications. I knew that Axel was the one with her in the sitting room, but I gave them their space, deciding not to interfere, but the worst turned out still.

Getting up and going to the sitting room, I saw Axel making his way through the door.

"Axel," I called out to him. He stopped, turning around and facing me, his eyes sad and regretful.

"Look, if you want your woman back, you have to win her over. You can't just expect her to run back to you after what happened. You have to win her heart," I advised him. He was still holding the door knob.

"I can't access her heart anymore, she's blocked every entrance to her world of feelings from me. I feel terrible right now," he replied, looking utterly detached from life. I really felt his sorrow.

"There's a tournament that's to begin in a fortnight. I came around to invite you both, but seema that was a bad idea," he said, obviously empty of thoughts.

"That'll be great!" I exclaimed.

"That's what you just need to bring her closer to you. Of what manner is the tournament?" I asked him, excited.

"It's a fighting tournament, a Royal one. Alpha's and royal folks who're willing to draw their swords from far and near are invited and would participate," he explained.

"What about you? would you draw your swords?" I asked him.

"Of course I will, I just hope you would be able to convince her to be a spectator," he said, the dullness in his eyes replaced by wandering interest.

"She would, she won't miss it for the world," I encouraged him.

"In a fortnight, at Fynson hill, I'll give you a call and come pick you up," he added, and left after I gave my nod of approval and bade him farewell. Kyle's POV

"Finally, we made it at last!" I exclaimed, much to the hearing of my entourage. The pack was similar to ours, the entrance of course.

Making our way into the pack, we decided to make hotel reservations, intending to spend our nights in the pack there.

My dreams of Lyra got more intense during the nights I spent in Russia. Her appearance stood more solid, sometimes I saw her facing the horizon, beckoning on me to be closer, with her ever lovely smile and glistening teeth. Other times I saw her swimming in a water body, her hair wet and shiny, long and unforgettable. I woke up thrilled at each adventure with her. My love and desire for her grew. Lyra's POV

"I won't, I can't, and I never will," I said firmly, much to the disdain of Amira.

"You must reverse all you said, cos you're coming with me," She replied in the same tone.

"To do what there exactly, watch him get beaten? hmm," I said in mockery to Axel.

"No, you would go there and watch your heart throb win and conquer all his opponents," she said, sitting down beside me and putting her hands around my neck. "I've been having strange dreams," I said.

"I keep repeating the same drawing pattern again and again," I added.

"Is it..."

" Kyle," I said, completing and answering her question.

"But you unmarked him, didn't you?" she asked.

"Yes I did, and the mark is no more in me, that's why it's strange," I replied, my imagination recoiling.

"I've never heard such occurrence before, it's truly a mystery," she said, puzzled.

"His portrait seems to draw me closer to him whenever I see it in my dreams, I feel him as much as I did when I still had the mark,"

"Once I saw the portrait reaching out to me, with it's hand being my utmost desire, its mouth quivered with pleasure, its mind echoing with words that I could hear ..." "Enough of that...," Amira said, cutting me short.

"You love Axel, and you shouldn't let the past spoil the present, Kyle is your past," she added.

"I know right, but I can't place my heart where it belongs, I love Axel, but my heart longs for Kyle."
