REBORN UNDER THE FULL MOON -
Chapter 122: The Alpha's Sacrifice
Axel's POV
My opponent stabbed me. I looked down as the cold sensation increased.
I charged at him again, using all the strength and breath left in me. He went right and I went left thrice, gaining advantage over him. I hit his sword real hard and it fell on the floor.
"Alpha Axel.... Alpha Axel.... Alpha Axel" were the last faint sounds I heard as I collapsed on the field.
Lyra's POV.
I quickly rushed to the field, my heart skipping seconds.
"Axel must not bleed to death," I repeated continuously as I got to him. A stretcher was brought in as they administered first aid to him. They took him out to a waiting van, rushing him to the hospital. I followed suit, getting into the carrier of the van were he was kept.
"Axel, please wake up," I said silently as I sat beside him.
"You were strong, standing gallantly till the end. You fought for your people, fighting for the dignity of your pack. You were a hero, " I said these as a teardrop escaped my eyes. "Please don't leave us, please."
We reached the hospital and quickly took him into the ICU where he was to be administered to. I tried to call Amira on phone, dialing her number severally.
"Hey Amira, please avail yourself in the hospital as soon as you can, "I told her immediately she picked the call.
"What's going on? who's hospitalized?" she asked a torrent of questions.
"Just be at the hospital, please,"
"Lyra, is he alright, " David asked as he walked in.
"He's in the ICU right now and we can't see him until instructed by the physician, "I explained with a tone of depression.
"Oh, I hope he's ok. That Greek guy took things to another level. He's going to pay dearly for this. He surely will," David said, looking into the air.
"News reaching me was that the Judges were attempting to get a rematch, but I intervened, opposing their witty scheme, "
"They attempted to fix a rematch? Bloody assholes. It was clearly won by Axel, " I replied, disgusted at the Judges.
"No need to worry, it's all resolved now. Axel was announced the winner of the level and Aloha was disqualified permanently," he stated, quite pleased with himself.
Good riddance to bad rubbish, I thought.
"Let's just hope that Axel gets better before his next match, or it'll be all blood in Greece, " David stated.
"I hope so too. Amira should be on her way now," I said. I observed his countenance as I said this and despite his attempt in keeping a neutral facial expression, I still noticed that he's losing interest in Amira. The potent of the love portion was strengthened.
"Once Axel is noted to be in a stable condition and Amira comes here, we both would go to confront Naomi, possibly breaking the spell in the process," I said.
"Don't you think this is a wrong time to go about that? Our Alpha is hospitalized, and it would only be fair to stay by his side, not chasing after a spell we are not yet sure of," he said. His tone signalled clearly that the portion was getting stronger, ready to consume him totally. I won't let that happen.
"Hey David, good to see you," Amira greeted as soon as she sighted him.
"Amira," he called out, reaching to her and kissing her right hand in a gentle manner.
"Lyra," she called."What was the rush about? was who's hurt?"
I looked into her eyes, my mind drafting away to how David would get eternally spell bound by Naomi.
She called, "Lyra..... Lyra, are you alright?"
Snapping back to life, "Why, yes, I'm good. Actually Axel's hospitalized."
"What? how? is he alright?" she bombarded me with questions.
"He was stable the last time I saw him, can't really tell for now,"
David, watching us silently, spoke out, "He was stabbed by his opponent during a round,"
On hearing this, she covered her mouth with both her hands. I put my hands on her shoulder, trying to calm her down.
"He'll be fine, no need to fear," I said, comforting her.
"You are certainly not a doctor, Lyra, you can't tell," he replied heart broken, she leaned on the wall for support. David walked up to her, cleaning her tears as she sobbed continuously.
"He's the only family I've got left. I'll never bear losing him, never!!!, not to a .... a... dumb tournament, oh... Axel," she kept on and on.
Just then the doctor walked in. She had to move two steps backwards as we almost fell her down in rush.
"He's stable now. Obviously his breast plate helped to reduce the impact, and the strike wasn't intended to kill him," she said, eyes locked with Amira's.
The tension around us chilled a while after hearing that Axel's stable.
"Would he be fit to continue the tournament?"
"Dave!!!" Amira called out as soon as David asked the question. She clearly showed her irritation.
"Well, let's just hope he heals fast. Like I said earlier, the blow wasn't intended to kill him, else he would have died while trying to win the round with the cut," the doctor explained. "Are we permitted to see him? I asked.
"Of course, he was awake few hours ago before we administered sedative on him to help him recuperate better." Amira dashed into the room where he was, followed by David.
I waited outside for a while, I suddenly felt lonely. I envied the love and affection Amira showered on her cousin. I developed a cold feeling in my heart. I was alone in this cruel world. No brother or sister, or cousin, no one; all alone. I was just there, living in the lives of others, cherishing what they cherish and hating what they hate. I lacked the life and existence of my own. Is this my Destiny?
Finally giving myself a push, I walked into Axel's hospital room. Amira was seated by the side of his bed, inspecting his wound. David stood beside her, giving her the emotional support she needed.
"Axel, thank goodness you're awake," Amira cried joyfully.
"The Greek.... warrior... he did this to me," Axel managed to say.
"Yes he did, and he would get what's coming for him. You need to get some rest," Amira replied him, holding his hands and carrasing it.
I moved closer to them, "Axel, sorry this happened to you. Your opponent was desperate to win, doing this in the process, "I said to him. "The contest.... the con... " he was cut short.
"I won't here any of that Axel. I won't let those wild beasts take life out of you, "Amira commanded.
