Meanwhile back in the pack. The elders rejoiced that they had finally managed to throw David out of their pack. They had always wanted to get rid of him. Specially after his lycan emerged. Not because they didn’t know how special lycans were. But because if he is the alpha, they would no longer be able to continue their corrupt ways. He would eventually replace out about their ill deeds and finally he would throw them out.

Elder Barron rose his drink high up in the air. “Cheers! For our success!” he exclaimed and laughed heartily. The rest of the elders cheered as they rose their drinks. They were sitting around the wooden table in the elder’s room to particularly celebrate the ‘exile of the curse’ as they put it.

“It would have been even better if we could actually lock him up and torture him.” Elder Arnold said after much laughter.

“Well. He ran away before we could. You know that they are stronger than us. I mean the lycans.” Elder Barron said casually. Arnold huffed angrily. He hated that kid. He just plain hated David. He hated him for being born to two alphas. And there are more personal reasons for him to hate David. He loathed him because he was Devin’s child. He had worked with Devin because he was forced to. But when Marsha died on the night David was born, he had successfully made the rest of the elders believe that David was cursed.

“What are you thinking about Arnold?” Barron’s voice interrupted his thoughts. Arnold smiled and shook his head. “Nothing important.” He replied and stood up from his seat.

“It has been a great evening. But I would like to retreat to my quarters for the night.” elder Arnold said and turned around.

“Good night Arnold. See you tomorrow. Remember, we have to announce Cade as the new alpha.” Barron said. Arnold smirked and walked away.

Arnold took quick steps towards his room. As soon as he entered, he closed the door and locked it before removing the uncomfortable cloak he wore. He carefully hung it on the hanger and hurried to open the drawer in the side table. He took an old picture book and slowly opened it. He took the picture he had carefully hidden for the past twenty years. He carefully traced the features of the girl flashing the smile he had fallen for. The dimple on her right cheek was his favourite. Her baby blue eyes sparkled as she smiled and it felt as if the whole world smiled with her.

“Marsha. I think of you every day. You should have been mine.” He whispered. He sighed and hid the picture and lied on his bed. Years ago, he had fallen for the alpha’s daughter of the silver moon pack. She was such a pleasant little creature. Anyone would have wanted to make her his.

Arnold pov.

I never forgot about her. She was one of a kind. Elders don’t have mates. Our mates are either dead or we are rejected. I never found mine so I assume that my mate had died. When I became an elder years ago, I was young. But I was appointed by my pack as they thought that I was the most suitable. I accepted the offer and I had been taking the responsibility for years.

I first saw Marsha when she was around fifteen years old, when we visited the silver moon pack. I noticed how wise and bubbly she was. She was beautiful and smart. She would lighten up the whole place with her laughter. Before I knew it, I had started to develop feelings for her. After that visit, I kept yearning to go back. To see her once again. To hear her laugh.

Years passed by and I knew that she would replace her mate when she turns eighteen. I secretly hoped that she never replaces one. Perhaps then, I can make her my chosen mate. I know our age difference is huge. But age is just a number when it comes to love, right?

Soon we were all invited for the celebration of her eighteenth birthday. It was a traditional for all werewolves to hold a grand celebration in the hopes of replaceing their mates. And for Marsha’s birthday, all the alphas and their families were invited, including Devin, who had turned eighteen earlier that year and his family.

As elders, we met and greeted them first. She looked breathtakingly beautiful that night. I had a hard time keeping my eyes off her. I had pulled her aside and asked her to be my chosen mate but she rejected me on the spot. She said that she saw me as her uncle. She could never see me in another way and that she had always wanted to wait for her fated mate. My spirits were broken. But that night became worse when she met her soulmate. And it is none other than Devin, the newly announced alpha of the pack we elders reside in.

When they announced that they were mates, I was devastated. I felt my heart break over and over again, each time they danced or gazed into each other’s eyes with love. And to make it worse, Barron had announced that he accepted the bond without a second thought. Which meant that Marsha will leave with her mate when they leave for their pack. That also meant that she will be leaving with us. I don’t think that night have gotten any worse.

I couldn’t stop myself from spying on them, when they sneaked around that night. I watched them share their first k**s, in the garden, away from their parents’ eyes.

And when she got pregnant with Devin’s pup, I was furious. That pup should have been mine. My anger increased when she died on the night the pup was born. I felt like shredding the pup and Devin in to pieces. But I had to be patient so that I could get a proper revenge. And now, I believe I had succeeded. I had driven that lad out of this pack.

I snickered when I remembered David. He was a carbon copy of his mother. He reminded me so much of her. The love of my life. The one who got away. He reminded me of how she declared her love for her mate. How she rejected me and accepted her mate. How she called me her uncle. He was a living proof of the love between Marsha and Devin and I just couldn’t handle that. Specially when she died as she gave birth to him.

It was a good thing that Barron believed in superstitious things. It was not too hard to make them believe that David was cursed. I chuckled. Indeed David is a curse….. for me.

The next day, the elders gathered the pack members for the alpha ceremony of the red moon pack. Cade was more than prepared for this. Elder Barron took the ceremonial knife and gave it to Cade. He then turned towards the crowd that had gathered to witness the oath taking of their new alpha. Cade was not an alpha, but since the pack didn’t have one, they will appoint the beta as their next leader.

Elder Barron raised his hands and clapped to capture the attention. “Now. We are gathered to witness the auspicious ceremony of the path taking of the young alpha.” He declared. There were cheers among the crowd. Cade had always been popular and a favourite in the pack. There was no doubt that many pack members already had accepted him as their leader. Barron turned towards him and placed the wooden bowl on the table.

“Now Cade. Cut your right palm and put a few drops of b***d in to the bowl.” Barron instructed. Cade gulped. The b***d oath had to be done only if someone who is not of alpha b***d is to take the position. It was a sign of trust that the new alpha wouldn’t abandon the pack in time of distress.

Cade carefully cut his palm and dropped a couple of drops in it. Barron quickly added a few drops of the holy potion. If the mixture of the potion and b***d releases a glowing light, it meant that the appointed one is the right one. But if not, then the pack had the choice to choose someone else or just go on.

Everyone waited in anticipation, Cade and his father were eager to know if they got the results they wanted. Barron too had hoped that it would glow. After all Cade had chosen his daughter as his mate.

Barron didn’t mind when wolves mated with their chosen ones without waiting for the fated mate. He didn’t see the use. He too had chosen a mate from this pack after so many years. He didn’t see why young wolves couldn’t choose on their own.

They waited and waited. But it didn’t glow. It was just a mixture of b***d and potion with no magic in it. Barron sighed after swirling the mixture for a good fifteen minutes. “It didn’t glow. But we still can keep Cade as our alpha. Who is with me?” he yelled. The majority of the wolves in the crowd raised their hands.

“Then it is official! I declare Cade Carmen as the alpha of red moon pack.” The wolves roared their cheers filling the atmosphere with their howls and growls. Cade smirked. It was done. He was alpha.

“And now, I announce my daughter Hailey Spencer as the Luna. Cade had chosen her as her mate.” He announced and Hailey marched her way up the stage. Cade held his hand out which Hailey gladly took. Barron turned around and smiled at the new alpha couple. He didn’t care as long as his daughter was happy. She was happy and that is what all mattered to him.
