Rejected And Forsaken -
Chapter 16
David pov.
Meeting the vampire king was nerve wrecking. He wrapped Carol is a warm hug as soon as he saw her and placed a loving k**s on her forehead. But when his eyes landed on me, he glared dangerously. For a split second, I thought his green orbs changed red. He narrowed his eyes as he took menacing steps towards me. He bent down and sniffed the air around means tilted his head.
“You sure seem to be a human. But why do I feel that I have seen you some where?” he hissed.
I gulped. He must have noticed me when he met my father in a conference years ago. I had attended the conference for the mystical leaders which is held every ten years. That conference was supposed to create a good connection between the mystical kingdoms so that all of us could live together in harmony. And we all did live in harmony for centuries, until Carol’s father declared war on us. I know there must be a good reason behind it. Perhaps I will replace out why soon enough.
Carol’s father circled around me, with a frown on his face. The fact that a powerful vampire king was testing me was intimidating. I slowly started to feel anxious. Goosebumps started to crawl on my skin as his eyes scanned my face. He was trying to remember where he had seen me. I smiled weakly at him. I just hope that he lets it go. He saw me seven years ago and I was a kid when he saw me in the conference.
“Daaaad!” Carol whined. “Can you please stop trying to scare him. He is a human for the heaven’s sake. He won’t hurt us.” She said as she pouted at her father. Her father sighed.
“Is it wrong to be a little more careful with you sweetheart? There is only one of you that I have.” He said as his demeanour quickly transformed to one loving and caring softy when he spoke with her. Carol walked up to her father and wrapped her arms around him.
“Dad. I will never leave you. And even if I ever have to leave the clan, I will take you with me. I can’t live a happy life without you daddy.” She whispered as she buried her face in his chest.
The vampire king chuckled and caressed her hair. “Even after you replace your beloved?” he teased. Carol looked at her father, surprised.
“Dad?” she gasped. Her surprise was quickly replaced with embarrassment. I couldn’t stop myself from chuckling when I saw how her pale cheeks turned rosy. She quickly looked away and fiddled with her dark hair.
King Richard glanced at me amused. “Do you know about us and our beloved, lad?” he asked. I bowed my head. “Yes. Your highness. Carol told me about it.” I said, a smirk pasted on my lips.
King Richard chuckled. “See. Even your human friend replaces it funny when you blush like that.” He commented. I tried to hold back my laughter and bit my lower l*p. King Richard looked at his daughter and then at me.
“You see, she is turning eighteen in a few months and then perhaps she will replace her beloved. My question is would you still live here then? I cannot guarantee that her beloved will like her having a close friendship with another male, even if you are human.” He told me.
My heart broke a little at the thought of Carol loving another, but that is how it will be. She will belong to her beloved just like how we were supposed to belong to our mates. And I will accept it, no matter how hard it is.
I bowed down in respect. “Yes. Sire. I understand. I hope to go back to my world after planning my revenge. So when carol replaces her beloved she could live happily with him and the one who killed my grandma will be punished.” I told him confidently.
A smirk made its was slowly to the king’s lips. “I think I like you human boy. I like the confidence.” He said and turned towards Carol who was beaming with happiness.
“I knew that you would like him daddy.” She squealed and hugged him tight. “Can I take David to his room? Please daddy?” she paused for a while and looked straight in to her father’s eyes. “Can I take tonight off?” she asked and grinned. “Please. Please please.” She begged.
King Richard rolled his eyes. “Fine. But only because you have been doing excellent in you studies and training.” He replied and started to walk towards his throne.
Carol jumped in excitement. She quickly took my hand and ran out of the hall. But soon halted as if she remembered something.
“Oh and daddy… I want new cloths for David. And some good human food. And a glass of b***d for me. Low fat b***d, Ok?” Carol yelled over her shoulders. “Send the food to the room prepared for him. We will be there.”
“Sure. I’ll send some fresh cloths now so that he can take a shower and change. His clothes are already worn out. You sure are an extraordinary human to survive in the harsh forest all alone David. I hope some of your bravery will rub off Carol” king Richard answered.
Carol rolled her eyes and tugged on my arm.
“Come on David. Let’s go to your room.” She said and lead me up a steep staircase. We ran up the stairs until we reached the fourth level which revealed a vast corridor. The interior looked dark yet majestic, with black painted walls and dark marbled flooring and the red and gold decorations on the walls. The yellow lights dimly lit the corridor, just enough for us to see the way. Had I been a real human, it would have been hard for me to see my way in here. But my wolf sight is already well adjusted to dark places.
“Wow. You are really strong for a human. Running all the way up the stairs didn’t tire you.” She said in awe. I chuckled. “I like to stay fit I guess.” I replied.
“You work out?” she asked and I nodded. Well I did. Working out and running was something I enjoy. “My dad had taught me how to fight” I told her.
“That is great.” She replied. “Maybe we can wrestle one on one sometime.” She said making me look at her with my eyebrows raised.
“I mean…… Like a duel?” She added when she noticed me staring at her. I shrugged. “We will think about that.” I replied. We walked forward until some doors came in to view.
“This is my room.” She said as she pointed to a door which was painted black and had beautiful wood carvings on it.
“The king and queens quarter is on the other side of this floor.” She added. “And that room is now ready to be used by you.” She pointed to a door right across her room. “Come on. Let’s have some fun.” She said and opened the door. I stepped inside and gawked at the majestic interior. There was a king-sized bed and elegant furniture. Though the whole interior looked dark, it was breathtakingly beautiful. All the walls were painted dark grey while the ceiling was black with red and gold vines drawn on it. The floor was covered with beautiful dark grey marbles. The bed was covered with a b***d red sheet, that stood out in the dark interior. The yellow and white lights added more perfection to the already elegant room.
“Do you like it David?” Carol’s sweet voice caught my attention. “I hope you feel comfortable in here.” She said.
“I love it!” I exclaimed. Just then, someone knocked on the door.
Carol opened it revealing a maid with some clothes. “His majesty the king sent these.” She bowed.
Carol thanked the maid and took the cloths from her.
“Take a shower and freshen up. I’ll wait for you here.” She said. “There should be a new towel and in the bathroom.”
I took my shirt off and was about to enter the bathroom when I noticed Carol gawking at me. I smirked, but didn’t let her know that I noticed her staring at me. I quickly entered the bathroom and started the shower. Was she checking me out? I smiled but soon my smile faltered. Even if she did get attracted to me now, as soon as she replaces her beloved, it would mean nothing.
But that is ok. I wish the best for her. I hope she replaces someone who would cherish her and love her unconditionally. I just hope that she replaces all the happiness in the world, because she certainly deserve that.
I took a quick shower, just enough to thoroughly clean myself. It was refreshing and much needed. After all, I had been cleaning myself in the woods for the past few weeks.
I quickly changed my clothes and got out of the room to replace Carol staring out of the open window of the room. I took sometime to admire her beauty. The soft breeze played with her hair, filing the entire room with her enchanting scent. I smiled. How wonderful would it be if I could have her.
But…that would be just a dream that could never come true.
“Hey David. Why are you standing there? Come and sit down. Let’s talk.” She said and sat on the bed. “Now I don’t have to worry about having to cut short our conversation. And tonight, daddy has given my a night off of my training.” She grinned from ear to ear.
“I’d love to see you train.” I told her. Her grin grew wider. “Oh wait till tomorrow night. Tonight, have some rest.” She replied.
“Actually, where is the queen? I haven’t met her yet.” I asked. Her grin suddenly disappeared. “My mom? She died when I was a baby. Daddy is pretty much affected by it.” She sighed.
“Oh.” I replied. Memories of the day my father died rushed back to me. How he smiled when he called out for my mom. When he said that he prayed that he meets her on the other side.
“David?” Carol’s soft voice interrupted my thoughts. “Are you thinking about your parents?” she asked. I chuckled. Suddenly, she wrapped her cold hands around me and rested her head on my shoulder. “I am with you now David. I will be you bff. And even if you return to your world, I will keep in touch with you.” She said. I smiled. Bff. I guess I will have to get used to it.
