Rejected And Forsaken -
Chapter 33
narrator.
David was taken to the dungeons and locked up in a cell that was specially prepared for prisoners captured from war. The soldiers strapped each hand to the silver chains that was attached to the wall of the cell, which surprised them because it didn’t burn his skin as they expected it to. David was smirking at them the whole time.
“doesn’t this hurt him?” one of them murmured.
“I wonder if this is real silver.” another one replied, scratching his head in confusion.
“Just strap him up. Silver or not, he won’t be able to get away from this.” One of them urged, making david’s smirk grow wider. Laughing to himself, he sat on the cold concrete floor when they were done locking him up. But right before they left him alone, one of them glanced at his face and noticed that their prisoner was rather amused than worried.
“Hey! you traitor! You don’t have any right to be too happy about your fate. You are our prisoner and we can finish you off if we want to.” He hissed, baring his fangs at david, trying to scare him off. However, david only laughed at his pathetic effort to intimidate him.
“You will have to try harder than that to scare me dude.” David answered back, a playful smirk played along his lips.
His reply surprised the guards. None of their inmates had talked back like that. Being secluded in these cells, strapped to silver chains have proved to be a torment for them. That is in addition to the various methods of torture they used on them.
“Maybe you need to taught a lesson!” Agitated by David’s lack of fear, one of them screamed as he grabbed the silver bars of the jail gate. His voice echoed through the cold, dark corridors. However, no one was in a distance close enough to hear his screams. This part of the dungeon is deserted. They are only used to torture the traitors and war prisoners.
David scoffed. “I would like to see you try.” He whispered, giving them a menacing glare as his eyes slot turned red.
“Let me at them!” Finn growled in his mind, but David refused.
“We cannot attack them. Not yet. We will if we have to. but right now we will wait to see what happens.” He replied. “For our mate…”
Finn stopped growling at the mention of mate and whimpered. “For her i’ll do anything.” He whispered and waited for the vampire guards to make their move.
The guards who were now flustered by, what they thought was disrespect from David, decided that they will start their torture without waiting for orders from the king. at least they could beat him up a bit.
“Open this thing.” One of them kicked on the silver gate that had just locked while the one with the keys hurried in his excitement to open the gate so that they could vent off their anger on their prey.
As soon as the gate opened, they rushed in.
“Here it comes…” Finn murmured as they landed their first punch on his face. Receiving punch after punch, blow after blow, david was soon bleeding from his nose and mouth. He was certain that his nose was broken. the series of punches and kicks reminded him of how his so called best friend cade, beat him up years ago. Memories of the unfair punishment, made him clench his fists as he tried to cover himself from the hard blows of the vampire guards.
“ooof” He gasped, when a sharp kick landed right in his groin, making him writhe in pain.
“That is enough for tonight. We don’t want to kill him. The king might question us.”
“Yeah. Let’s get out of here.”
They walked out of the gates and started to lock it. Their smiles only reflected how satisfied they were with their little adventure. Their mocking gazes taunted David.
“looser.”
“traitor.”
“What do you think you are? And did you think that you had a chance with our princess?” They sneered as they threw insult after insult at David who was slowly regaining his posture. His wounds slowly healed, thanks to the healing powers of the wolf.
He smirked once again. He might have let them beat him tonight. But it won’t be the same each time. And on the day he fights back, they sure will be in for a surprise.
“I can’t believe this, he is still smiling!” One of them gasped, shocked and amazed at what he was seeing. It was not supposed to be like this. He was supposed to be in pain. And after that beatings, the silver should have prevented or at least delayed his healing process, which was not the case this time.
The other one eyed the chains and their smiling prisoner.
“Maybe we need to change those chains to pure silver.” He murmured. “lets just go. i can’t waste my time on one prisoner the whole night.” he said and walked away.
Meanwhile, Carol who was still in her room, started to feel uneasy. She felt an unexplainable pain all over her body. Trying to get some ease for her discomfort, she tried to lie down and get some rest but nothing seemed to help. finally, a sharp pain that she felt in her groin area knocked her down on to her knees.
Gasping for breath, she clenched on to her abdomen, and g*****d in agony.
“what is happening?” She gasped. Trying to help herself, she lied down on the floor as she crouched and hugged herself.
“please please make this stop.” She prayed silently, hoping that whatever it was would cease to cause her so much pain.
Soon, the pain stopped. just as mysteriously as it started it stopped. But by the time it did, she was exhausted.
“what was that?” She whispered to herself when she was finally able to catch her breath. She stared at the ceiling trying to think of a reasonable excuse. She thought about any possibility of feeling pain like that.
She couldn’t be sick, vampires only get sick if they get exposed to the sun. And certainly, she didn’t. She had been a good girl for the past few months and never even stepped out of the palace where light cannot penetrate to it’s inside.
Then what could it be? The only reason she could think of was that their other half was experiencing a similar pain. But how could that be? David was in the dungeons.
“no!” She gasped and jumped up as her eyes widened in realisation. Could it be that David got hurt? Did daddy order to torture him already?
Scampering to her feet, she quickly grabbed a coat and ran outside, ignoring the glares and confused stares of the servants and maids she met in the castle. Mumbling a sorry to each maid she stumbled in to, she hastened towards the dungeons. She had to make sure that he was fine. She would be damned if they had tortured him. He was her beloved and that made him as good as her. vampire or not, she didn’t care. He was meant for her and she was certain that it was him that she wanted. Only him.
She skidded to a halt when she reached the front desk of the office that let visitors visit the prisoners.
“I need to see david who was brought here tonight.” She wheezed through her uneven gasps of breath. the young girl behind the desk scanned through the lists and bit her lips when she spotted his name.
“But your highness, he is in the ward for dangerous criminals. we can’t let you…..”
Carol interrupted her.
“I don’t give a damn about your stupid rules. Now let me in and that is a f*****g order.” She hissed at the girl, who felt as if that she might have a heart attack then and there. Gazing in to the angry eyes of an angry princess didn’t make it any easier. Nodding timidly, she quickly lead her way through the corridor and spoke to the guard who stood at duty.
“your highness….” He started to say something but Carol was not going to listen.
“I don’t care. just let me see him. He is my beloved and he didn’t do anything wrong for him to be locked up like this. I want to see him and that is final.” Her tone was still stern when she interrupted him.
“But princess….if I let you in I will be in trouble.” He said, a bit of worry laced in his voice.
“No. you won’t. I promise.” Carol promised making him sigh. “ok. but please. don’t take too long.”
Carol was happy to be able to enter. At least she was going to see him again. She was taken to a secluded part of the cells. What she saw made her gasp. David was leaning against the wall, with his hands strapped to the wall. He clearly was tired but he snapped his head towards the visitors when he sensed that his mate was nearby.
“mate!” He whispered.
Carol held on to the bars of the gate and stared at her beloved with sad eyes. Tears started to blur her vision and her voice quivered as she spoke.
“David….. my love.” she whispered back.
